The song was written for a 1955 movie called "Unchained". It's about a prisoner in a jail pining for his wife. He's torn between serving out his full sentence and returning to his wife, or try to escape.

The title of this song is a direct reference to the lyric of Famous Last Words from the 1993 River Of Dreams album which was, at the time, Billy's farewell. That lyric, on paper, apoears at the start of the video for Turn The Lights Back On (not the lyric video, which this is). The best version of this song is the live version, in a lower key, by Billy at this year's Grammys. Magic. The lyric has multiple meanings: it pictures different sorts of relationship simultaneously. Two lovers. Billy and music. Billy and his fans... Apparently the song is primarily Wexler's work. Which means Wexler is a freaking genius at stylistic mimicry...and persuasion! He seems to have achieved for real what Alex Keaton did in that old Family Ties episode, coaxing the old blues player out of retirement. I have rarely loved a song so instantaneously as I did this one...

You're missing the point of the lyrics, this is a song from a person in prison to his love.. so time does go slow.. try it again from this perspective and actually listen to the message in the lyrics

Hi Travis. Glad to see you back with Lucy .What a beautiful rendition of this song and Lucy now owns this It has always been one of my favourite songs First heard it in the film Ghost. I have listened to many versions of this song and Lucy is in my opinion the best by a mile. Lucy just has a perfect beautiful voice and she just keeps getting better with every song she releases. You should listen to the releases from her live concert she is even better live. Her next concert is in Tokyo in Sept. and then the preview of her musical Rosie in London. FYI I was told this song was written for a movie about a guy in prison and he is singing this song to his girl friend, asking if she was still mine.....time travels slowly in prison and he is expressing his love for her, and later picked up by the Righteous Brothers Bob Hatfield and made famous, supposibly it's been covered over 1500 times but Miss Lucy Thomas crushed this song, owns it, yes Lucy is the best most technical, pure clean, clear, full bodied voice with an incredible range !!! Play that song for your wife !!! Thanks for the react and this young Lady is on fire, she has 4 video's released from her LIVE concert in March plus this cover, lots to keep up with and her live songs were better than the original studio versions. she sang 17 songs and rocked the house with an encore of HALLELJAH. check em out !!!
