R u back doing ASMR?? I miss it

I wish I could do this but nowadays I feel like we NEED smartphones like it's not a choice anymore. I am an expat and since everyone is used to Whatsapp etc I feel obliged to keep it up even though it drains me. I don't have any social media besides CZcams (which is my TV) and Whatsapp, but I still feel so exposed to the World, like I can be contacted at any minute and expected to repply... It just feels forced. But I can't just have a flip phone because I need a place to have my apps for my medical bills for example, or a way to track my training and stats... I wish society started to move back to softer modes of communication, I feel like a lot of anxious people would find themselves much more relaxed in a softer, less demanding world

How refreshing you are, Gracie...I'd guesstimate you to be in your early twenties ? My son is twenty-three, & he too, cannot understand the mindset of his own generation; admittedly, both he & I own smart phones - mine is purely for work (e mails predominantly) & making calls. My son only sends mail on his laptop, & rarely texts, except where absolutely necessary. "Downgrading" to a flip phone is not really the point; the device itself is not significant - you can still use one, but keep your activities to a minimum; that too, obviously, is a choice. From this man's perspective, you've transitioned into a winner, primarily because you've come to recognise what is really important in your life & those around you; those that lose out are encumbered with psuedo-social imperatives; who the hell has five hundred virtual friends that they regularly, actually commune with ? About twelve years ago here in the UK, a Psychologist guested on a morning TV programme - this was when social media networking was already on the ascendant; she could see the destructive environment building into this behemoth of negativity - suicide statisics were climbing - individuals becoming social pariahs; in summary, this Psychologist - & purely out of frustration said, "For those of you embroiled in this circus of nuanced cruelty..get a f*cking life..!" I have a suggestion, if I may. Write a journal of all your newly-discovered observations & adventures; better still, use a fountain pen - you don't have to buy anything too elaborate, just a functional writing implement. Writing in ink makes you slow down, & not unlike your 'downgraded' phone, you can pause for thought. I've been writing journals for forty-five years, & there's nothing so therapeutic. I've watched your videos for a while now and you've never failled to amaze me. There is just something about those specific people that makes them so special, as if they just came out of a beautiful movie or painting, the type of people that inspire others to write songs and poetry about them and life itself, and for me that was always you. I've been off social media for ten months now, but I feel ya. I still find the way to mindless scrolling from time to time. My experience has been that I have been finding more time to enjoy myself, my thoughts... Being aware of things. My family, my dog. Everything. The only thing holding me from getting "a flip phone" or an old one, was work. But I just realized that I don't even need Whatsapp anymore on my new job. So, you just inspired me for that next step. Thank you! And reading is WONDERFUL.

I can't let go of my phone. I think I use it to escape a lot of parts of my life. Not that my life is bad; I'm just depressed and anxious easily. And also I am just not very proactive in my life so phone obsession and media obsession is the way I'm living now. I am seeing a therapist for this and phone obsession is one of those topics I bring up.

I switched to a dumb phone and simultaniously started playing cards and Dominoes with my friends, family and coworkers (Whenever we have time). Whenever I'm there, nobody is looking at their phone. We play together, drink together and just have a good time. Sometimes I wonder if I have some kind of impact on them and make them realize that it's worth much more to spend your time talking and interacting in general with each other instead of sitting in silence on your phone, scolling through some useless social media posts. Now that I think of it, I should really ask them tomorrow... I truly feel like we should be thankful for even having the possibility of feeling something like boredom. That means we get to spend time thinking and working on ourselves.
