Rack Records launch gig part 2
*soundtrack available here*
rackrecords.bandcamp.com/album/rack-records-label-launch
On April the 4th, 2024 a rather special concert was held to mark the launch of Rack Records the new label from Steve Davis and Gaz Williams. This was the night before the global launch of the label on the 5th of April.
Rack Records is a specialist label focused on capturing raw and improvised collaborations between two or more musicians. To celebrate this we held the Rack Records launch party at the Cube Microplex, Bristol. This was a series of improvisations between musicians who had largely never played together before.
Eight musicians were randomly assigned a player number (1-8). Payers 1 and. 2 would start with player 1 leaving after 15 minutes. Two one hour concerts took place. Part one players 1 to 4 and part two players 5 to 8
Here we have part 2 featuring the following performances when they happened and with links to the specific moments:
10 pm Mike Bourne and MissterSpoon 00:00:05

10:45 pm MissterSpoon and Steve Davis 00:45:31

On the 5th of April, Steve Davis and myself are launching our new modular synth focused record label Rack Records. More information will be along shortly but our motto for the label is Spontaneous Electronic Conversations!

On the fourth of August 2023, the city centre of Cardiff was twozzled by the mysterious leakage from the rooftop of Jacob's Antiques as the mini festival Tuff at the Top took place. Steve and me tried out a new way of doing things with me taking on the drums and leaving the rest to him. We had a bunch of tempos pre planned and weaved our way through them without stopping.

You can connect it to a bigger keyboard and get all the octaves plues better more handfreindly keys ?
Absolutely. Unlike him, I actually think the acoustic piano is great and I have a touring professional who comes over and practices at my place when he's coming through town using the CP through my old Yamaha 88-key keyboard instead of the acoustic-piano patches that are already in that keyboard. I use it to play around when I have down-time at work and then go home and connect it (MIDI) to my big Yamaha and use all of the CP's sounds.
Seen you guys years ago in Ireland supporting la rocca and I was blown away.Got hold of a 4 track cd at the gig and played it to bits.Don’t understand how Rocket Gold star never became massive. This song is fantastic. Is there any way to find more your music Gaz?
Nice track
Fabulous band - retro sound but totally original material !
Shared to my group
Darn, I thought I could learn something, it turns out I know a lot more than you do about this and I don't have your fancy computer editing device can change the sensitivity of the attack depending on how you're playing is within it to get clean tracking to play fast
oops! Missed this… 😮
you need to tune the 8 voices 1st. can be a harmonoius chord or a discord. randomly turning and tweaking knobs will result in harsh sounds. it isn't a traditional synth. took me about 3 days to get comfoirtable with it
Can you make progressive house sounds on this thing??
wild!
A cat with wingies...
52:29 “Let’s just for fun bring in some other instruments”… now this is what I came for!!! 👌🏻😎
Great video. I was thinking along similar lines with the Morphagene but personally I would just put it in a 20 HP box (4ms for example) I think you sort of hinted at this earlier on in the stream. For the other modules are fun but the Morphagene has so much to offer on its own and I have plenty of LFO an other input/modulation from elsewhere. Even without any FX or modulation, on its own as a tape splice mangler its excellent. Krait is very cool though as is the FX.
If you’re just here for sounds, make sure to skip to 23:30 when the stereo sound is fixed! 😎
Thanks!
Excellent, really enjoyed this..
Awesome! So much fun. Thank you.
I love mine. Patchman Music gave me the best deal.
Superb jam Gaz. I also have these two beasties; endless fun and much joy from the interaction. The universe has been in existence for more than 13 billion years and in all that time you just created an amalgamation of tones and textures never before heard. Now ain’t that special.
Bit late but can the whole grid with all the changes be saved under a single patch?
just one thing IMO, for the price range and the possibilitys of this thing, they made the oled screen waaaaaaay to small. absolute dont like this fact.
I have a wow and flutter, and I love it so much. If you dial the warp just right you got yourself a really good modulated delay. I also really love stacking it with other delays.
that lips sounding is AWFUL BROOO !!!! WTF !!!! mix that voice !!!!!
Great jam, like this 😊
Hi Gaz and sorry for the rather dumb question ! Can i first record with no effects onto the miCROSD and then play it back and then insert the effects. I don't want to commit myself to printing the effect so would rather try the various effects on the dry recording. Thanks and really appreciate your video. The best i've found :)
Nice video!! In my opinion the most dynamic and organic sound module that exists. I made a song with it where sax, piano, bass etc can be heard czcams.com/video/GtLLgO6ZuBA/video.html
The poly aftertouch keybed replacement has me eyeing this synth again...
seems You dont know what You do.
Florian threatened to eat my cat if I don't check out your channel so let's see what goes down over here... Ah, Roland and their inevitable-as-Thanos modules...
That song is great :)
Do you guys know if it's possible to adjust the micro timing of the triggers or is it just set at whatever you perform it as?
People just get them wrong. It's really an Electric Autoharp / Synth . I've got one and I really love 😮
Was about to dispute whether this was up to task of mastering, then you mentioned having twenty years in the industry so thought I’d shut my mouth 🤫
Tried , can’t 🫣 surely there’s loads of rack units that blow it out the water! Of course but at about 8x the price. The modulation control and envelopes are nifty though.
To say "the best" Is really a pest. The rytm is really an astonishing drum machine and for a reason the most famous new drummachine. But it can't be the best. The best in which field? You have to admit a basic patch doesn't sound very pleasing. It is a complex machine and you need to program it. It isn't for beginners. A tanzbär is way more easy.it sounds just good and you can't do wrong. Alphabase is also very different. Most famous doesn't mean "the best". A lot of people just don't need such a complex machine or don't like the sound of it. The rytm is also.very boomy and i am always surprised how well the analog four does drum sounds. Or a vermona drm is also very complex when it comes to synthesis and sounds amazing to my ears. Choose your weapon.
BRAVO!!!!!!....Years Later. ❤. 🍺.
Wow this looks great
Not saying she isn't a good singer, but that was cringe af.
Amazing show! Wish I could have been there 🎛️ 🎹 🎼 🪱
nice, but unfortunately only in mono 🧐
its great i hear snippets of instruments i know or do i. also some influences of classic synth artists.🎉🎉🎉
First half hour goes hard❤
Amazing that you guys did this, what a crazy idea!
Just Amazing!! I love the idea of having the hand off every 15 mins! The sound was evolving through the whole performance!! Great work!! 💜
Such great performances. I'm sad I missed the live event. Time to watch part 2!
I know that shirt when i see it. lol
What a cool concept!
What a brilliant premise ! Love the ebb and flow of it 👌
Yo bother how are you, so a question here quickly: as an audio interface just, focus on recording live or multitrack sessions to a nice finished results to good quality demos or even to fully properly recording and mixing and mastering jumping to a DAW and all how is this devide would be in your opinion honestly? premium quality results as a high quality audio interface or not quite? Obrigado for the good vibes videos man as others that you did i like it, is very very usefull, cheers!
Just watched the last bit but have to say AMAZING! exactly my cup of tea 💃💃💃
What an amazing concept Gaz... and yes if somebody is into a particular genre of music, it won't matter if it's a bit rough around the edges... and even that concept of "rough around the edges" is also subjective... I will be tuning in at 8.30pm this evening...
Gaz, Gaz, Gaz...people want perfection!! No warts...digitally airbrushed pix, pitch corrected notes, tempo-synched rhythms, etc. Well...enough do or the "professional music folks" wouldn't be so hell-bent to provide it. Best of luck with the Rack Records effort, as I personally love the idea. Hadn't heard about it until yesterday when you were on Sonic State. Cheers!
