    Imagine America erecting the Statue of Liberty while they still had slaves. Funny if they would've had something that represents "freedom" liberty and justice for mankind, while at the same time black people weren't free. Good thing they waited 12 years after the slaves were freed to decide to give it as a gift. And then they waited 10 more years after that to deliver it.

    Your video is FILLED with errors! First it was never intended as a gift to the US, certainly not at a July 4th 1876 gift! The statue, which is named “ Liberty lighting the world” It was intended to sit at the entrance to the Suez Canal. The torch is not “The Light of Freedom” it was supposed to be a lighthouse at the entrance of the canal. Egypt paid for construction of the copper statue, but when costs of building a plinth for it to stand on at the mouth of the Canal, as well as erosion and collapse concerns arose, and cost of construction of an internal frame ballooned out of control, Egypt cut its’ losses and told Bartholdi that they no longer wanted it. The statue was offered to many countries, none of whom wanted it, including several refusals from the US, and was about to be scrapped when a private American group pledged to raise the funds to pay for the plinth, and the construction of the statue (which again, is named “Liberty Lighting the World” NOT “The Statue of Liberty". After that wealthier benefactors pledged the rest and construction of the base, and assembly of the statue began in earnest. There are actually pictures of the torch on tour to raise the money needed to put it together, as well as the truth of its’ history, HERE: www.nypl.org/blog/2015/04/07/statue-liberty-pedestal Why does it take a British citizen to correct Americans about your own history?

  • @HebrewIsraelite6737

    The statue of liberty was initially designed to celebrate the end of slavery but was later changed because the white supremacists didn't approve of it, the statue has shackles on its feet, look it up

    False.. and it’s a shame they used indigenous people to do the video. 🤦🏾‍♂️ the original statute s to be a black (indigenous) woman in broken chains to represent the ending of slavery!!!!! They changed the face to be white.. why u think he used copper.. for the copper colored people!!! Know your REAL HISTORY

    It is a very strange video because of the exclusion of the word slavery, which is what defines American liberty so-called. It is not freedom or liberty in a vacuum. The broken chains do not represent liberty in the abstract. The broken chains represent Humanity freed from slavery. The white washing of what the statue actually celebrated, Emancipation, is telling.

    • @laospeedwagon3023
      @laospeedwagon3023 Před 6 měsíci

      Actually, it explains the level of ignorance and lack of education of the hosts! Almost none of it was even remotely true! The statue was supposed to sit at the entrance to the Suez Canal, with its torch doubling as a lighthouse. When concerns of base sediment erosion and collapse were pointed out by engineers, due to the current in the entrance to the Suez Canal the project was canceled. The copper skin had already been built and paid for by the Egyptian and British Governments (due to Egypt being under British rule), and Frédéric Bartholdi desperately tried to find the country who would accept the statue. the US refused it several times, as they were unwilling to pay for its construction. When a private group of fundraisers pledged to raise the money, the right arm and torch were shipped to the US, and went on tour to raise the needed funds. once enough money had been raised, and philanthropist saw that this was a serious effort, the remainder of the money was donated by the wealthy. Here is a page which shows some great photographs of the arm on tour as well as the TRUE story of the statue (which is actually named) "Liberty Lighting the World” Source: www.nypl.org/blog/2015/04/07/statue-liberty-pedestal

    They should just repaint it copper. That is what the artist intended. I think it would look stunning. There has to be something that could protect the paint.

    • @scottthompson9923
      @scottthompson9923 Před 2 lety

      why would they paint it copper when its copper already that is oxidized. All you have to do is buff the oxidation off and protect the original copper underneath with a clear coat of some kind. Regardless I think it looks fantastic as is!

      Omg...what??? 😲No no no and ...NO!!! says this New Yorker! The patina is absolutely beautiful and makes her so unique! The copper was chosen knowing that it oxidizes naturally from the environment. No way! My beautiful sea foam green patina lady! Why does everyone want everything so perfect and shiny all the time? Leave her as she is .Plus: NY would never ever "buff" her or scrub her! Omg 😒
