West Texas Homesteading
Registrace 9. 10. 2021
Hey, y'all!! We are so happy you're here! We are turning a once forgotten farm into a thriving homestead in West Texas. We bought our farm December of 2020 and have been working on cleaning the property and renovating the inside of the home. We will soon be starting our first market garden in addition to our kitchen garden. We are documenting our journey along the way not only for our friends and family, but to inspire anyone who desires to start homesteading. We aspire to implement as many old-fashioned practices as possible. Bobby’s passion is gardening and farming. While I love gardening and consider it one of my greatest passions, cooking is my "thing" and one of the things I'm known for among friends and family. Our mission is to share our process of growing vegetables, fruits, grains, etc. in our region and showing you how our family uses what we grow. From Seed to Plate. Zone 7B

What county/area of west Texas? Looks good!
I’ve yet to learn to produce green beans in W.T.
I have tried so many verities. But I have had the best luck with jade bush beans.
Are you on a west Texas fb group?
Yes I am
@@yaima0901 yes I’m
My potatos bever look like this😢
That awsome
Your garden looks so good to be in west Texas! I’m in midland and idk if that’s possible here haha
Yeah y’all’s soil isn’t the best. That is the only thing that saves me. I have good top soil. Plus y’all are a little hotter and dryer.
Get chickens, but you have to keep the chickens out of your garden, or they’ll eat your garden too💕
Wow, that looks great! What all are you doing to or for soil?
Actually my soil is really good. I have good top soil. And I try to crop rotate. So this has no fertilizer or anything. And I added on top some old hay for that was wasted from some goats as mulch. And that has helped with weeds and keep from having to water so much
Did you do anything to prep your soil? I have sandy soil and new to area. Not sure what needs to be done to prep ground for garden around here!
Great looking garden ❤
Thanks this year I am a month ahead of schedule so everything is looking really good
Where are you in west in Texas? I’m in midland!
Up around Lubbock
Water level
Beans, corn and potatoes?! Everything looks great my man. Rock on!
Thanks.
What month did you harvest? I just planted pablanos and anaheim for the first time. (Northern Utah)
I think it was over in October. I harvested some before then. But I usually do a big harvest right before a freeze.
@@westtexashomesteading4624 Awesome, thank you!
Where you be? Looking forward to more west Texas gardening! A 64 y/o fan!
Crosbyton I will posting some more soon. Looking forward to it as well
Your videos are amazing! If you like farming or harvesting videos, I look forward to having you visit my channel to have relaxing moments together!
I’m in Abilene! Yep wind and triple digits makes a challenge to garden! I have been gardening for 40 years, but every 3 to 4 years you have a bumper year, just hang on!

Hi y’all! I’m from Rotan,TX. Now in Abilene been gardening in West Texas 40 years! Boy it’s a fight for us the wind and triple digits!
What seeds have you started for spring? We are now 8A zone in Abilene,Tx. What zone are u in?
I haven’t started seeds yet. Still haven’t got a good set up for that yet. Hopefully next year I will.
Absolutely amazing to see. Next time you grow futsu leave alot of vine on each fruit, they'll continue to develop and get nutrients from the vine as it slowly shrivels. Not every pumpkin can do that but this one can! It'll help flavor after sitting in greenhouse for awhile. Love to see the success in west tx!!
Thanks. Will do
I just saw that Ambition Strikes installed a unit that collects moisture from the air and you are doing the same thing and cooling your house at the same time 👍
Omg they are so cute my mom has chickens and we love them
Wish I would of gotten as much rain. Had a quick shower yesterday evening as well and then again this morning around 430 in Gaines county.
Yeah but it will be dry again in just a couple of days. Lol. Still it was nice to wake up this morning to every being wet.
@West Texas Homesteading yeah hopefully more will come thus way. my land is pretty dry.
Nice farm !!!!
Thanks. We like it.
It was so crazy. The floor in our shop was covered with dirt. It’s amazing how you capture it. Good video. Thanks.
The video didn’t really capture how crazy it really was.
Nice layers
Hi I’m in Abilene,Texas the place of NO rain! Glad to see a fellow West Texas Gardener and crazy chicken lady here! I’m 64 and always gardening and raising chickens most of my life.
Haha tell me about it. When people who don’t live around here and they complain about not getting rain and it has been like 3 weeks. I just laugh lol. We have a lot of other videos on gardening on our channel. Feel free to check them out
You could divide it up and make the coop in the left side and storage shed/workshop in the right side.
Well what is nice is I have to others much smaller rooms in that same coop. And another shop next to it. I am thinking of turning one into a brooder (as I will be getting more chickens both layers and broilers).
Have my self a 1996 chevy silverado Z71 5.7 been driving it for the last 25 years. You have your self a good truck 😉👍
Welp there goes my package
Truck blow over.. Truck PULL over!
Beautiful I think it missed us sure would be good to get some moisture after all the windy days the sand really moves out here
You're right about the zucchini cross pollination. i found these produce a much softer "spaghetti" that tends to be more mush than string so the yellow for me is preferred. i planted a seed and it produced the same hybrid. With both types, i suggest salting them around the rims for about 5mins. This pulls water out of them making for a crisp "spaghetti." For west Texas, these are a great market item as they don't need much to survive and are prolific producers.
That is a good idea we will try that this year. We have several seeds of that hybrid.
I plan on buying that exact one, then I'll make it electric for normal use.
Yeah I am going to be getting the motor for sure lol. A lot more work then I thought hand grinding.
We got down to -5 last night thank god I filled the bath tub up had to haul water it was Solid ice😮on my way out to check on everything and grab my Sledgehammer didn’t think about that one thanks for the info
Oh wow. Where do y’all live?

How do you prepare them
My absolute favorite is fermentation. We love it that way
@@westtexashomesteading4624 you should try stir frying it with lots of onion, garlic, little bit of ginger, and your sliced peppers, pinch of salt and butter, let it caramelize and serve over bread rice or anything and tell me how you like it
That can’t be good for them
Why do you say that. Condensation from the A/C unit is one of the cleanest water you can get.
你有一個豐富的開心農場👍👍👍

Nice looking bean bushes.
I had the same thing. Grew 3 plants from the same packet and 2 plants had these growing and one the typical spaghetti squash. Thanks for the video!
Of course.
How exciting! Such beautiful squash!
