    Great idea and video. You have a new subscriber. I may have to visit this for my channel. I kept thinking that I could cut out a surf board or sail board design. Just one question, as you're the one who makes these and I haven't yet, would it be easier to glue up the boards first then cut them out? Or is there a reason that you don't do that? You're the one with the experience on this one, that's why I'm asking. Cheers and God bless.

      @fromthepalletshed Před 15 hodinami

      Thank you for watching, it’s really up to you to what you think would be easier, the reason I didn’t for this video was because I was showing you could get 2 products from the same slats but if I had glued them already together I wouldn’t be able to use the inside shark because I wouldn’t be able to get to some of the angles with a jigsaw in 1 run. If you weren’t interested in the 2 cut out I would glue the slats together first.

    Nice project, I've made my templates and it's now on my build list, thank you! Out of interest have you tried wipe on poly as a finish over the char? I make my own wipe on poly these days and have been pretty impressed with it. I just use 50% white spirit and 50% polyurethane varnish (Matte, satin or gloss whichever you like but not water based of course!!) it's a really nice finish and dries super fast, builds up in layers as well if you want and you can adjust the mix to have more or less spirit or poly depending on the effect you want. I use it on vinegar wood stains at 50/50 and it really pops!

    I found your video as I was looking to do a similar project. Looks amazing! It's speeded up a bit too fast for me to follow everything so I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. Is torching the wood mainly to seal the wood or for darkening/enhancing the grain? What kind of sanding drill bit are you using? It seems your cable is coming out at a 90 degree angle. How did you manage to get that through the piece of wood?

    • @fromthepalletshed
      @fromthepalletshed Před 5 měsíci

      Hi, thank you for watching, torching the wood and brushing it back is called shou sugi ban. My brushing it back it’s removing the soft wood cells and leaving the harder grain. The attachment to my drink is a nylon flap brush that you can get from toolstation in the uk. One end of the wood I used a 40mm forstner bit and then char aged to a 10mm bit I think the drill abit more and then go from the other end with the same bit and join the 2 holes together. Then drill from the side in to the forstner bit hole. Hope this helps
