A DIY Arc Wrlding Rod Warming Oven. It is made from some kind of old Military box I picked up many years ago.
Restoration on an old hatchet.
zhlédnutí 35Před 14 dny
I did a restoration on an old hatchet I have. I forgot to hit record while working on it, so this is basically a before and after. My apologies.
Cutting 2 inch Rebar
zhlédnutí 36Před 21 dnem
It's not everyday you get to see 2 inch Rebar. I got this from a scrapyard. It was a drop from a highway overpass bridge project. I'm cutting it for an upcoming project.

DIY Electro Chemical Etching Tool and Test
zhlédnutí 110Před rokem
Using an existing Power Supply I build everything else needed and test my homemade Electro Chemical Etching tool for etching steel. I know there are simpler ways to do it, but what can I say, I'm not a perfectionist, but I do tend to like nice tools, even if I have to make them myself.
Gunpowder Burn Off
zhlédnutí 132Před 3 lety
I had 25 pounds of old IMR 5010 .50 BMG powder that was degrading and needed burned off for safety, plus I had some old Pyrodex that needed destroyed as well. So I decided it should go out with a bang!

I call BS! No such thing as 2” rebar, there is #18 (18/8) and #14 (14/8). There is no #16 or2” rebar.
@Utah_Mike okay, I'm not a structural engineer, just a guy with a big hunk of rebar that he got out of a scrap yard that came from a local overpass rebuild that measures about 2 inches in diameter, actually 2 1/4". So what #18?
@@bigguns45acp ok sorry I was an a__hole.
@Utah_Mike No worries Bud, I was just saying it how I know it, which was in inches, which is how I've always bought rebar. I honestly didn't know larger rebar had numeric size codes. Sorry if my response came off hash, wasn't meant that way.
All the times I was saying 3/16" I meant 3/32".
Nice! Now it looks *lovingly* used [not neglected]. Love the honest wear appearance. Good job.
Thanks Manny. Eventually I will do a complete restoration, including a hickory handle from scratch. That one is a Genuine Norlund Hudson Bay style axe.
My favorite part of this is how it says not to spray directly onto food products on the can.
Re: inconsistent ferro rod results. Utility blades are stamped. The side the stamp hit is rounded, whereas the side that faced the die is crisp. You can usually feel the burr on the crisp side with your fingernail. If you flip the blade in a utility knife, the crisp side will be reversed. You can accentuate the hook much like you'd burnish a cabinet scraper. The smooth end of a HSS drill bit can work for this because it's harder than a utility blade, usually HRC 60 or higher.
Makes sense. Two points, there was still some paint on the ferro rod, and the sparks got better as I went along. Also, when I switched to the second utility knife, I was able to utilize the blade better than on the folding knife. Thanks for the input.
Cool,looking,gun
Thanks.
Nice job on the custom heritage. I picked a couple up to do something similar because it is cheaper to practice gunsmithing on a heritage.
Thanks for watching. I also did another custom Heritage for my wife. It's a 5" barrel with adjustable sights, a birds head grip and a matte finish. Merry Christmas.
I don't know if your older Rough Rider will do this, but on newer ones, when the hammer is on that "safety" notch, you can pull the trigger hard, and the hammer will drop. I suggest never count on that first click as a safety; not only will Rough Riders drop the hammer on that first click, but they are not a robust safety, and if dropped such that the hammer is hit just right, that notch can break off the trigger, and the gun can fire. Just a heads up for SA aficionados.
Yes sir, I never count on half cock as a safety on any SA revolver.
I@@bigguns45acp 'm not talking about half cock; on a four-click revolver, I'm talking about the first click, often referred to as a safety notch.
@@bigbill2444 Understood, my meaning was I don't trust any notch as a safety.
@@bigguns45acp That's cool. I tend to be very specific when explaining something mechanical. As a former mechanic, and someone who still does most of my own repairs (including my guns), I find that most people aren't quite as capable with understanding mechanical things. (My wife described what turned out to be loose lug nuts as "a butterfly sound." Her car had just come back from the tire shop.) So I get pretty specific or exact.
@bigbill2444 I do understand. I'm a certified AR15 Armorer and have spent the majority of my life earning my living with guns, either carrying them, selling them, or building/fixing them. On the building/fixing side, it includes fixing them in both a factory setting as well as working for a gunsmith. So yes, I definitely understand where you're coming from.
Great review! I looked at both and went with the Heritage. I did not like that the Ruger had a free wheeling cylinder and only locked up when cocked. These are a great purchase for not much money.
Thanks, I have two, this one and another I custom built for my wife. Also not available from Heritage. Hers is a 5" bbl with the fiber optic sights and a Birds Head grip that fit her hand better and a matte black finish.
@@bigguns45acp yes, I don't think they make any adj. sighted ones below a 6" bbl length, which is a pit. A 4.5" would be very nice .
. . .or what is usually called a fast draw length anyways. . .
@BushcraftWoodsDevil If I remember I'll send you a pic of hers. I was pretty stoked how nice it came out.
Mitch Peacock - for anybody who actually wants to know how to sharpen a bow saw blade - 2 minutes 13 seconds, job done!
Errm? You have no idea what you are doing or how a bow saw blade works. Otherwise, a great guide to wasting time and wrecking a bow saw blade.
Just because I used a not traditional way of sharpening the blade, doesn't necessarily make it wrong. It did however make the blade extremely sharp. Thanks for watching.
Did a really good job!!, impressive!
Thanks. This machine is a beast. Got it on sale about 3 years ago. It was under $900 at the time. It is also CNC table compatible. Maybe someday I will have a CNC table, but for now, I have to free hand cut.
Definitely gets it done in a hurry!!!
Indeed it does. Thanks for watching buddy.
Very cool! Nice job!!!
Thanks Brother! It was a fun project.
sorry what? i nodded off
Gave up at 8 minutes . Wanted a sharpening tutorial , watching you remove rust , boring!
Good job
Damn that is one strong rope oh my gosh
Good video. For the same amount of money you could also get a US Disaster blanket - similar dimensions and it’s 30% wool.
No new vids in TWO YEARS! WTH!!
Camera is old crap, bigger priorities at the moment. Like 4 major surgeries between the wife and I in that time. Hope to get back in it soon enough.
I'm looking at that exact same sewing special edition black looks solid
I like my neos BUT THEY ARE NOT WATERPROOF. I have that exact boot in this video and I wear tennis’s in them. I worked all night in the rain and my feet were soaked in the morning.
were you wearing rain pants?
@@4eversambros no I was working in the snow
Excellent review and great water bottle tip!
Thanks and appreciate the view.
I wish everyone owned the Estwing Riggers axe . Shorter than a full size axe and larger than a hatchet . Thanks for this video and all the best.
The part you showed on the last slide blade is a beer bottle opener.
that initial music was extremely awkward.
That was several years ago. I was still learning about editing and such. Thanks for watching.
Good skill to know. Guess what extra blade will be unavailable after the hurricane?
filming is so bad it's not worth watching despite your good advice
You're the consummate outdoorsman Dan!
Howdy, your video has recently come to my attention. I am the shooter of the original video and yes that was a target rest, but you where wrong as to the type of tree the tree in question was a sassafras tree. Not a hard wood.
Very cool. Thanks for watching. I hope I did it justice. I enjoyed your original video as well.
Can you recommended nominal gap/clearance in CAD, for tab and slot? To be laser cut in 1/4 steel
Great video! I know it's kinda 11 months late... always enjoyed the 22lr. Actually I use the red dot on my 10/22 As well. Works fantastic.
Nice review. I own both axes and like them both. My Hudson Bay axe is a Council Tool which are also made in the USA. Just one minor correction I would offer is that the Hudson Bay pattern is NOT a Swedish or Scandinavian pattern. The Hudson Bay pattern originated in northern Spain and southern France and were made popular by the French fur trappers who operated out of the Hudson Bay, hence the name.
Estwing is made in the USA too
K so..I bought one yesterday Dec 10, 2020. Great year huh? DOES NOT CHARGE right out of the box. Had 25% charge when plugged the VAC charger ... 5 hours latter still. 25% Taking the unit back today and will report back. 20% restocking fee soooooo. Let’s see. They should exchange straight up
great Review and UNBELIEVABLE load out .... I have the same pack plus I also have a Camelback Hawg miltec .... not sure which one I like the most !
I just bought a 50' length from Wal-Mart. Unwrapped it, and it feels like my laundry couldn't survive hanging on it. It just feels very inconsistent and cheap. But after seeing you lift that log...I'll use it.
Thanks for watching.
Wish I was there oh nevermind I was lol
half the install wasnt visible
It appeared as if I was in frame on the viewfinder, it was only in editing when I realized I had gotten out of frame. Unfortunately I didn't have time to reshoot the entire video.
Butt-burnin' Black Powder Apocalypse! Awesome!
That was pretty cool!!!
Thanks Terry.
Great video but the filming is appalling
Can't find the combo flip anywhere. I use the double flip utility. They break, but I get a year of heavy use out of them. I can't get them anymore either.
I’m also curious and it might sound stupid. But can you also wear the overshoes without any shoes in it? Just like you would with any shoes, boots or whatever.
You can, but they will fit very loose and do not contain any insoles. Since doing this video my feet have spread and my work boots are now a US 12 Wide and no longer fot in the overshors. However the house shoes I wear do, so I kept my old pair of house shoes and will keep them in the overshoes just in case I need to run outside in the snow for some reason quickly.
@Hardwood Hollow Skills Oh cool. Cause I thought about either buy a pair of boots where you don’t have any shoelaces (Like jackboots) to fit on one of these overshoes or not. So I can take them off and on without tying the main footwear while wearing them. It’s also for a cosplay project from a shooter game that I’m considering buying one of these NEOS overshoes to start on the project.
Don't waste your money, per my experience I bought one and it only worked once after that it was too weak to crank over a vehicle even when fully charged.
Sorry you had a bad experience with yours. So far both of mine have worked well.
Thanks.
Excellent video and a good demonstration of the effectiveness of the axes. I plan on picking up both the 16" and the 26" Estwing.
Thank you and thanks for watching.
Nice kit!
Learn to chop, man. Now it looks awful!
-30°? Celcium?
Great video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with these firearms!
