Our adventure starts in the small town of Fort McPherson, where we unload our snowmobiles and get ready for the next leg of our trip in the remote northern Yukon.
As we head up frozen rivers and creeks, we come across some impressive overflows. The colorful ice is beautiful, but you never know how thick it is, which keeps us on our toes. With each overflow we encounter, we get a little more used to it, but it remains stressful. This far from everywhere, the last thing we want is to have trouble, or lose a snowmobile or worse, have someone get hurt.
Our camp setup is cozy and warm with our new ice fishing tent, heated by a woodstove we made ourselves. On our first night, we’re treated to an amazing show as the northern lights dance across the sky-a warm welcome from Mother Earth.
Crossing the Richardson Mountains, also known as the Curtain Mountains, is no small feat. We face some steep slopes that test our skills, but our mountain riding experience comes in handy. The landscape is harsh and unforgiving, so we’re thankful for the good conditions that allow us to make it over the pass and continue on the other side.
As we continue to make our way to Old Crow, we get a surprise visit from a local hunter one evening. He tells us to take a trail by a cabin, adding an unexpected twist to our journey and changing our route.
Come along with us in this video as we share stunning scenery, drone footage, and the highs and lows of our Arctic adventure. Experience the thrill of overcoming obstacles and the magic of winter camping under the northern lights.
As we journey through the lands of the Gwich'in First Nations territory, we humbly acknowledge that we are merely passing through. We honor and recognize the enduring connection of the Gwich'in people to these lands, their ancestors, and traditional practices that have shaped this territory over time. We express our deepest gratitude for their stewardship and custodianship of these lands for countless generations.
In our travels, we aim to respect this territory by adhering to the principles of Leave No Trace. Our goal is to always leave a place better than we found it, minimizing our impact and preserving the natural beauty and integrity of these lands.

That's an amazing place. I started paddling the Tsichu and Keele rivers from the NWT side of that pass. I got dropped off with a folding canoe and paddled to Norman Wells.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. The Dempster looks much different in winter than when we made many trips to the upper Blackstone area from late June to August. Road condition are a lot better in winter as well.
Indeed, we heard lots about all the potholes. In winter those are filled with snow. It’s such a beautiful place up there! We would love to see it in the summer, or with all the fall colors. One day..

I been stuck at Eagle Plains a couple times. Really expensive. It was really great meeting up with yas at the Northern in Aklavik.
It was nice to meet you too Ian! It must get expensive, we were wondering about all the people stuck with us, who were waiting to get home, were missing work and have their groceries etc go bad.
@@TheBrientFamily yeah I never buy meats and stuff when I go Whitehorse or Dawson. For that reason. I have also been stuck at the Peel ferry in the summer.

Yes we can, one reason why we choose big tents is so we can set them up over top of our snowmobile in case of emergency fixing, or we can work on them inside at night if we need to, or if we need to thaw them out or whatever else can happen 😅

How did the house at Hershel get full of snow? Polar bear break the door down?
Indeed, a bear broke in through a window and the rear half of the cabin filled completely with snow. The front half ain’t that bad and we cleaned it and boarded the window. The bone house was also broke in and partially filled up. The bear pull a bunch of bones out but it ain’t too bad. A storage building got broke in and filled with snow as well.
