Elgin Baylor Feature (4K)
Some upgrade on the quality of the last one. That was very poor. So here's a better version of the late, great, Lakers' legend!
What a legend! Before Dr. J, there was Elgin Baylor. (Little bit of PS2 at the end. I might replace this with a cleaner version)
My apologies for being away for so long! Three years? I've been so busy!

All good things come to an end. The Mick came to the dish @ Fenway Park 9/28/68. In the top of the first inning, he faced Jim Lonborg of the Boston Red Sox, who'd won the Cy Young award in 1967. The New York Yankees had actually improved from three tough years. They'd actually won 82 games, their first winning season since 1964. Boston wasn't quite the team they'd been the year before. It would...

@18:16, it's Maris who will field Edwards' 2B, not Johnny Blanchard. Blanchard did have one awesome arm, since he was a catcher. Funny, Blanchard and Edwards should each have played more in the Fall Classic! Blanchard PH in games 1 & 3 (and as you will see, came up with a big hit in the third contest), and started games 2 & 4 (in RF). The reason, of course, that he didn't play more is Mickey Mantle played all of game three and the first three innings of the fourth contest. Hector Lopez replaced Mantle after Mickey singled with Maris on first in the T4. The outfield starting lineups for the New York Yankees went like this in each contest: Game 1: Berra, LF. Maris, CF. Lopez, RF (Blanchard batted for Lopez in the B8, after which Jack Reed came in to play CF and Maris went to RF) Game 2: Berra, LF. Maris, CF. Blanchard, RF Game 3: Berra, LF, Mantle, CF (Reed takes over in B9). Maris, RF Game 4: Berra, LF. Mantle, CF (Lopez comes in to PR in T4, Maris moves to CF in the B5, Lopez moves to RF). Maris, RF (until B5) Game 5: Lopez, LF (Berra got hurt in game 4), Maris, CF (Reed again takes over CF in B9, Maris to RF). Blanchard, RF (until B9) For Cincinnati: Games 1 + 2: Frank Robinson, LF. Vada Pinson, CF. Wally Post, RF Games 3-5: Post, LF. Pinson, CF. Robinson, RF Meanwhile, the Reds use three catchers: Game 1: Darrel Johnson (Cardenas PH for him in the T8, then Jerry Zimmerman takes over behind the plate in B8). Goes 0-2 (against Whitey Ford, his old teammate!) Game 2: Edwards plays full game, 2-4, 2B (x 2), RBI (x 2) Game 3: Edwards plays until B9 (1-3, 2B, run. PH Cardenas just misses game-tying HR in ninth inning). Game 4: Johnson (Gus Bell PH for him in the B7. Johnson is 2-2 against Ford!) Zimmerman takes over beind the dish in T8 (Edwards is implied to be in the on-deck circle when the last out is made in B9) Game 5: Edwards goes 1-4, almost adds a BB in B4.

I attended game 4. Yankees should have broken it open in the first couple of innings but only scored those 3 in the first. They showed Mantle out trying to stretch a first inning single. Mantle was also picked off second in the third. Richardson botched a double play grounder leading to Ken Boyer's grand slam off Downing who was terrible relieving in game 7. Too many mistakes in all games. That's on Yogi.

Just 1 or 2 plays determine the winner in a close Series. Pepitone beat the throw in the 9th inning of game 5. If they would have had challenges then, that would’ve been overruled and Tresh’s HR is a walk off winner for the Yankees instead of Cardinals winning in 10, and the Yankees are up 3-2. I’m a former Yankees/baseball fan but don’t watch it anymore except for a WS game sometimes. Too much chest beating and bat flipping when a HR is hit, batters stepping out of the box after every pitch to rearrange themselves, starting pitchers too soft to go past 5 innings, and MLB getting involved with politics. Sports are supposed to be an escape from politics and other things going on in the world.

My first World Series, 60 years ago. I can't believe how much of this I remember. Shannon's homer in Game 1, Mantle's walk-off on Schultz's first pitch in Game 3, Gibson pitching 10 innings in Game 5 and then finishing Game 7 on sheer nerve. That ninth inning with the two homers, just agonizing and praying for Gibson to get that last out. Keane left him in and he got it done. What a warrior. Great Series, great memories. Thank you for uploading!

My last year in Little League was 1964. Our uniforms were white with red lettering. I wore number 8 and batted left handed. Watched and rooted for the new players coming up through the mid 60s. Then came 1967, a freshman in high school watched the games that were televised, but the bulk were listened to on transistor radios. Everyone on the edge of their seats for 162 games. The final weekend beat the Minnesota Twins twice and got to the World Series. The cardiac kids gave us their all. A week after the conclusion of the 67 World Series, late October a charity golf tournament was held at Pleasant Valley Country Club, Sutton, Massachusetts. Tickets were sold to the general public. An estimated crowd of around 10,000 gathered to watch Golf Professional Paul Harney, Bob Cousy, Ken Harrelson and Carl Yastrzemski play 18 holes. This kid capped off the Impossible Dream caddying for Carl Yastrzemski that day! I would have done it for nothing but thank you for the generous tip Mr. Yastrzemski.

A little less aggressive baserunning by Brock might have won it for StL. Yeah, he stole 7 bases, but some were at times where it didn't matter and he was picked off or thrown out at some bad times. Also he should have slid in Gm 5. Still a great series for Lou.
