6: 17 it's funny, because my first thought was of swifts (especially since "never touches ground" is what he said first rather than "never lands" and you can't argue that flightless birds never touch land... but i get that it was a joke). swifts' scientific name is "apodidae" because it was believed for a long time that they had no feet since they mate in the air and never seemed to land. indeed, the common swift can spend up to ten months in continuous flight (i'm not even kidding, they can just keep flying for almost a year without landing at all if they aren't breeding). it's absolutely wild. they even sleep while flying. even when they're raising chicks it's in high-up nests so some may go their entire lives without ever touching the ground. but the real gut-punch of this scene is that Frenchie, who seems to believe in almost any superstition or legend he comes across (mermaids, woman crystals, cats stealing children's breath) immediately shuts down the idea of such a creature existing because even he can see that what ed is doing isn't sustainable and will have to end one way or another.
