About EXPED - The EXPED story began with the personal outdoor experiences of Heidi and Andi Brun. In 1981, the Swiss adventurers lived in the northern Canadian wilderness for nine months, spending the long winter in a log cabin built with their own hands. Improvising in their everyday life with minimal resources, and the freedom this approach allowed, inspired them to get involved in the development of functional outdoor gear. The EXPED brand is the direct result of this dream-come-true adventure.
EXPED products embody the best of Swiss design and a commitment to the highest quality. From the beginning, we have tinkered, tested and innovated to build gear that is unique, durable and thoughtfully created - and we’ve repeatedly turned outdoor gear conventions upside down.

    What happened to exped? I have an old hand pump mat of yours that’s great, came with a patch kit that I’ve had to use when in the woods. No patch kit here and probably when I need it I won’t be able to “reach out to my distributor”. This video is not easy to follow (I had to watch the bag-closing multiple times to get the hang of it.) Wish I could keep this mat but it’s unwieldy.

    How necessary is it to wait 24 hours before use for the first time ?

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před 13 dny

      Completely optional. We recommend people let their mat sit for 24 hours (with the inflate wedge in the valve so that air has that gap to enter into the mat unimpeded) just to give it time to try to "self-inflate" and decompress. With mats that have been rolled-up for a while (like brand-new mattresses), leaving the mat to self-inflate may not be sufficient to get them to their full-mattress shape on the very first inflation after storage, since the memory foam inside the mat has gotten "used" to its rolled-up and compressed shape. Thankfully, all it takes to make the memory foam “remember” its full-mattress shape again is to inflate the mat until it’s firm so that the internal foam can stretch out and decompress. Subsequent uses should see quicker and “fuller” self-inflation after that, as the foam inside has been stretched out to its regular shape by inflation. The mat shouldn’t suffer from the compression issue again unless it’s rolled up and put away for a long period of time. Td;dr- you can also pump up the mat to restore its ability to self-inflate rather than waiting for it to happen by itself.

    Hi there! How would this hold up if I used it daily as a home bed and car camping bed when traveling? I like the minimalism of it for home and want ONE bed to cover my needs. BUT, given the price, I would want to feel comfortable it's durable enough for several years. Thoughts?

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před 16 dny

      Our mats are not designed for constant everyday use like the kind of mattress one would use at home. Repeated motion (such as rolling over in bed in the same spot every night) can eventually cause excessive wear to certain parts of the mat. It would basically be like a blister - repeated rubbing eventually causes the layers to peel away from one another. In this case, it would be the laminate peeling away from the foam, which would cause a big “bubble” on the top of the mat. Nonetheless, many of our customers still use their mats every night, so for those situations, we recommend flipping the mat around (swapping the head/toe ends) periodically and/or using sheets/blankets on top of the mat to minimize friction on any particularly “high-use” areas.

    • @ExpedLLC

This particular leak will only be made by Exped themselves, not by Bever( dealer). There is no quarantee on the repair. Bever told me that they don't know how you will repair this. Can you tell How you are going to fix a hole in a seam and a coming up one? And how is it possible, that the laminated seam, after 5 campweeks ( in 8 years time) leaks. It was always stored in a big box laid out, because that was the advice. 160 euros. I don't trust this brand anymore

    Hi @EXPED , I have un long tear (about 25cm) on my SynMat HL Duo. The Matress exploded when i sat up to get out of the tent. I can't find the UV glue. Will I be able to fix my matress with the Seam Grip+WP ? Or should i reach out to the distributor ? (whos closed for vacation in the moment)

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před měsícem

      We'd encourage you to reach out to the distributor anyway, but tears can absolutely be fixed with Seam Grip. We also made this video: czcams.com/video/mpzaKFtvkaM/video.html which shows the exact process we use in our USA repair shop for fixing large tears in our backpacking mats. The "backing tape" and UV glue "spot welds" shown in that video are helpful for keeping the a fabric together, but the Seam Grip (or other comparable repair glue) is all that is strictly necessary for this kind of repair

  • @SeanAhrens
    @SeanAhrens Před měsícem

    Thanks! Could you explain the purpose of the Seam Grip + WP? It sounds like with the UV glue you already fixed the leak so not sure what the purpose of the second product is? I have a Megamat which I've done 6 layers of the field repair glue on, covering plenty of surrounding area of the leak and it still is leaking (water test shows bubbles coming up on all sides of my glued repair). What's my next step? Apply Seam Grip + WP? Dremel off the glue and start over?

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před měsícem

      UV glue is great for an in-the-middle-of-the-night emergency repair, but due to it's very quick cure time, the UV glue tends to be more "brittle" (inflexible) when cured and it doesn't typically have time to soak into the fabric as well. The reason we like the Seam Grip stuff is that it's still very strong and flexible when cured, so the repair is much more "solid" over time. The fabric of the MegaMats (especially the top fabric) is pretty porous, so it will take a little extra glue on those mats in order to fully soak in (which is key). The airtight coating in our mats is on the inside surface of that outer fabric, so letting the glue soak in around the puncture down to that airproof layer is important to sealing off the leak so air can’t go around the glue laterally through the fibers (which sounds like what you're experiencing here). To fix the leaking area on your mat, we'd advise coating the repaired area in a smooth layer of Seam Grip and ensuring that the repair glue extends beyond the edge of the previous repairs underneath. Be sure to also have the valves open during repair so there’s no air forcing itself through the leak while the glue dries. Feel free to email us at Questions@expedusa.com if you have any further repair questions. If you're in the US, we can also send you some extra tubes of repair glue or offer our repair services (if you're outside of the US, we can connect you with your region's Exped distributor for further assistance)

      The smaller version coming soon won't be as powerful as the MegaPump since it will be primarily intended for backpacking. The MegaPump is best suited for our larger mats like the MegaMat. Those malleable pieces of plastic tubing are our "Universal Valve Adapter" www.expedusa.com/products/universal-valve-adapter?_pos=3&_psq=univers&_ss=e&_v=1.0 that's meant to help bridge the gap between our standard pump/valve size and other "twist valve" style mats.

    I regret buying my exped hammock. Just how complicated should it be to add a normal mosquito net after suspending the hammock? This suspension system is unnecessarily complicated, inflexible regarding size of trees and distance between them, and I've had to look up videos online on how to use this even though I'm very comfortable using "normal" hammocks. I know what I'm buying next time I get a hammock, and it's not exped.

    When I'm filling up the mat using this method, at a certain point there's no more air going in, even if I push hard on the pump bag. However, at that point the mat is somewhat full, but not as firm as I would like it (heavier person, I need more pressure in the mat). How do I get extra air in?

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před měsícem

      Hello, thank for your comment. Your mat should be able to be inflated desired firmness. If there is air pushing through the pump bag it should continue to inflate the mat. If this isn't happening it could indicate a leak somewhere in the mat. It’s good to check that both your valves have their green and orange “Flappers” and O-rings and that they are seated properly. Make sure the deflate valve cap is closed while the mat is being inflated and that both valve caps are closed when the mat is in use. If the problem continues, follow this link www.exped.com/en/contact to reach out to your local distributor for assistance troubleshooting the issue.

  • @MrJohnadamsgilmour

    Just a FYI. I have owned so many Exped mats , Megamat 10, Megamat duo, Synmat HL duo, regukar synmat Duo, Dura 3r Dou, Dura 5r Duo. SO if you like their mats you obviously appreciate their refinement. The idea that in the Synmat series the tube diameters were chosen very carefully to give a bed like experience. The MegaMat series as well has picked the right durometer foams with the right amount of give dialed in buy coring them just right. The tricot stretch again is part of how it sleeps. So I made an all out attempt at the perfect wilderness bed. The idea was a perfect sleep for two people with widely different mattress requirements in the same bed. I woud just use hte Megamat like a sleep number foam core. First off. Yes Megamat duo is big- its essentially a "Full Size bed" . but that can be a bit too close for comfort if you are sleeping with a woman who is not a girlfriend. SOoooo. I took an Megamat 10 and added it to the Duo sorta exactly like you see behind the guy in teh above video. That makes a 77.75" by 82" mattress that falls somewhat in between a California King and an Eastern King size mattress. If you like a queen size just use (2) Megamat 10 LW and that gives you 60 x 77.75 Or close to a 60 X 80 Queen size. SO ..a king size mattress- held together with nylon 3 inch webbing. But then I had (2) twin 3" thick latex toppers and (2) 2" thick twin latex toppers that were cross drilled. She had bigger hips so she got teh more plush 3" on top to megamat and 2" below mega mat. I did 2" on top and 3" on the bottom for my half. The using (2) 10 Liter MSR Dromedary bags I put 200 degree water in them, because 212 can be cause the plastic seals to leak, I placed these atop the megamat under the foam toppers. Covered with a thick down comforter and cashmere blanket underneath. Then cooked lobsters for dinner giving the MSR bags 2-3 hours to let the heat permeate the entire bed , topper , and comforters. I could further adjust the firmness and give on her side by letting some air out of her mattress so as a side sleeper I could see her spine was perfectly in a horizontal line. Because me side was independent of hers I could do the same. I called this "SuperBed". And yes it was ridiculous overkill- on purpose, to set the bar and then try to get as close as possible with as little gear weight and volume and cost as possible She says she has never had a better night sleep in her life and this was in sequoia national forest. I used a humongous Dana Designs South Pole overland Bag for the 3" toppers and a Polo duffle bag for the 2" toppers. I also slept like a Log. and it was 45 degrees out and were so toasty. The problem was trying to extract her from the HEATED bed for breakfast and then after breakfast 20 hours later. The water kept the bed warm well into the following afternoon. Exped can give you amazing sleeping experiences. Now I am refining EV camping using their Mattresses- and have a stowable mini duo sleep system that is flat out amazing that can fit inside a briefcase! So even if you go the other way you can still be comfortable. This never leaves my Tesla Model X so whenever I pass by a National Park or nice spot of Bureau of Land Management land, or even a ocean sunset, I am ready in about 5 minutes. I'm further refining this concept to "Solve camping" so you don't feel homeless with a sack...and nothing in my kit will get low use or end up in a land fill for at least 25-30 years or more. Because IMHO most pedestrian camping gear sees less than 2-15 days of use before it is replaced or broken by the average camper, which means most camping stores are just filling landfills. I hope to change all that forever. And Exped as far as I can see is the right choice of mattress to sleep on. The best part of this system is that it quickly converts from car camping to lightweight hiking. The way I set up the mattress- with layers (now lightweight and multi purpose), I have "total coma sleep" every night GF's prefer sleeping in there compared to super pricey hotels and dealing with check-in and late check out hassles. And yes- I solved the shower issues too- I have been doing this since 2017 and never had to go without a shower for more than 24 hours. I have a Dometic Fridge that goes in the sub trunk too. Its like an instant B van.

    Are they able to take quick submerging?

    • @ExpedLLC

      It would have be really quick and stay shallow- the weatherproof zippers will keep out rain/splashes, but they can't hold back the pressure of the water if submerged.

    Both luxpad and and lucpad duo versions have same sizes under specs section on the website. I wish they were corrected so I don’t have to play test and return game

    I wish you made a 5’6” x 30”. It would be perfect for someone who is short and rolls around.

    Would have been great to see the additional front mesh pouch included in the video and how it attaches Waterproof hip pockets would be great instead of mesh And also an integrated front mesh pocket added to the design would make this a top class pack

    "With an ultralight pack you're oftentimes going to be using a single pack for multiple days". That must be the dumbest thing I've ever heard said on an outdoors youtube channel.

    Hi! Will this fit in a Tesla Model 3?

    • @ExpedLLC
      @ExpedLLC Před 3 měsíci

      The MegaMat Auto can technically fit in a Model 3, though it involves moving the driver and passenger seat as far forward as they can go, and even then, it’s a “snug” fit.
