This boss was a spiritual experience; I felt the need to share it. I wouldn't readily recommend this game but I definitely wouldn't recommend against it if you're interested. It certainly is....special. "Resources & Character" Analysis - Devil May Cry

In this video I'll go over each character's resources, how they affect gameplay, and what this tells us about the characters. Resource: A value, that can be earned, maintained and spent/lost *in gameplay*, which affects your capabilities. The *in gameplay* qualification is why I don't consider Red Orbs a resource until 5, otherwise they certainly are. Twitter: Nero_theGame Patreon: ...
I live for these type of videos
This boss causes so much PTSD I remember all the exact timing of the notes and just tap my feet automatically. Genius.
Yesterday i finally beat the boss after 1 year of trying and rage quitting over and over again. But the thing that made me the angriest and what kept me going was that this boss was NOT cheap and NOT trash it was a beautifull peace of art that is completly unique in Gaming not because of difficulty but because of the hatred towards the player as it turns the srongest part of Drakengard 3 its music into your enemy fitting for the flower and the intoners but in complete dissonance with the gameplay of this game. I love it but i never want to play anything like it ever again. I realy apriciate your analysis because you show the terrible experience and beauty at the same time.
I beat this like 10 years ago and I still look for videos of people talking about this, this was great laughs at the expense of my past suffering
I guess I go.... 😅 Can feel it. Dmc has such an inconsistent world building. I love the story expression via combat or character movement. Just a hint. I dint found a lore vid about dmc wappons. Like what are the theories. Are the wappons actually "alive" like the swords .....& rudra . And then came dmc5. So I guess I go .....
The best part of all of this is that if you play an MMO called FFXIV, which belongs to the Final Fantasy series which isn't as dark as Drakengard and Nier, after playing through four expansions in which you have to kill gods, corrupt governments, dragons, an apocalypse and an extremely old dude who wants to merge multiple dimensions of the same planet to bring back his own kin and then doing a crossover raid series at the end of it all you get to kill the true final form of the intoners. I like to believe it is canon it feels like a very Yoko Taro thing to do.
Using the L1 and R1 buttons as a drum stick/beat and following a youtube guide I managed to do this in under 4 hours I can easily get to Intoner 3 but the camera paning everywhere is a troll I managed to platinum Drakengard 3 my only complaint was the fps drops and that was it the music is great the story is great and Mikhail is awesome the ending is worth it I think
THAT LAST FUCKING NOTE! THAT GODDAMN LAST OTHERF NOTE also a boss you can fight the best when you arent looking at the screen. Like I found the visuals distracting so listening with closed eyes actually helped getting further
Vergil got his Devil Trigger the day their mother died. He got impaled by a demon who shoved Yamato through him and that activated his DT
Very good video, it resonates with me a lot, but i found it a bit funny Adventure 2 got no mention in regards to Sonic, cuz i feel like the ranking system, gameplay and presentation of the speed stages absolutely falls in line with the principles u present in the video. Going for A ranks in that game will absolutely create the feeling of embodying the character.
Kuze is easily one of the best bosses of Yakuza 0 lol
Yeah Dmc does feels like sex 😂
27:03 that's two notes in rapid succession.
I think it wouldn't be a problem if the camera was not having a seizure and not to mention you have to hit a note when the screen turns black that is the biggest FU I have ever seen
Wish there was a DDR or Stepmana version. Beat saber versions exist though.
Mihkail: "The killing was hard. Like really hard... Zero: "stop repeating yourself" You: BRO THAT'S YOUR FAULT
33:24 Brilliant part
one of broken game for me
You're pretty funny dude thank you
Yeah this is one of the worst boss experience i had too. This fight is basically unfair w.o using a youtube beat simulator.
cant believe bro made a 40min vid glazing JUST the ACTIVATION of an ability 💀
I always loved the discordant intro to the song, where it's seemingly arbitrary rhythms mushed together until it suddenly becomes a beautiful melody. Watching this and learning that the fight actually has rhyme and reason to every phase. I have no choice but to deem this the absolute pinnacle of boss design. Even if it's the biggest troll in all of gaming, it's art in its purest form. I can only aspire to even think of something this insanely beautiful. Someone's going to argue the lack of fun, but video games are just a form of media, and not all media is intended to be tangible to the average reader. This boss is an abstract masterpiece, and I will die on this hill that Black Song, White Scales is nonpareil.
I’m assuming from that first try you’ve never played music games before.
You don’t know it’s a rhythm game at that point. The game gives you no instructions. You’re thrown into a full new scenario without even a line of text to adjust you. Mind you Drakengard 3 is an action beat-em up. There is no precedent that this was a music game where timing matters.
33:34 technically, its still playing a piano
I love that I laughed at "A-S-S' before realizing you did 🤣
"That cloud looks like a loser" Breaks me every time 🤣
Did I miss you talking about Color Up? While many may forget about it once Nero gets his DT, giving him a storeable resource makes gun a more consistent option without needing to expend as much effort to utilize.
Probably should have mentioned it. You could definitely interpret it as a character thing, Nero being more in control of his power and whatnot, but it's so mechanical that it didn't really occur to me. I mostly see Colour Up as: Blue Rose is a double barrel revolver, it can shoot 3 times from a full cylinder, you load it, and shoot.

I will say I play the oringal game, and I suffered at it's easier rythme game for days until I beat it. When I got to this bullshit. I Took one look at it, realized what was happening, tried to deflect the first note, failed, and said "ABSOLUTELY NOT!"
Another thing about DMC 5 is that, unlike previous games, it doesn't account for time spent completing the level or red orbs collected when deciding your final rank. This sticks out in my mind as someone who recently started learning the speedrun for the game. Before I had, I assumed you'd have to play at the top level to efficiently speedrun the game, but I quickly learned that was not the case. Instead, every enemy has a single, pre-defined fastest way to kill them, and it's simply a matter of doing that. With the Nero/Dante/V speedrun, it's at least similar to regular DMC gameplay at a glance because the fastest way is usually some sort of combo and typically different for each enemy, but with the Vergil speedrun, it's literally just spamming judgement cut over and over again with the occasional JCE or HoE. By encouraging speed, you are actively discouraging style. And as you (briefly) alluded to, making red orbs a factor doesn't mean "playing stylishly", it means "walking around destroying all of the benches in Fortuna". So I think the removal of these aspects, while making it much easier to S Rank, goes a long way into making the game emphasize style. This is in direct contrast with DMC 1, where Time and Orbs are the ONLY methods for determining your rank, it does not take the style meter into account whatsoever. This was, apparently, done under the assumption that beating it fast and with a lot of orbs was a natural consequence of playing stylishly, but as I showed above, not inherently. So instead of encouraging you to play stylishly, it's encouraging you to kill every enemy as quickly as possible and then rush to the exit. And this is not helped by the fact that the need for varying your attacks wasn't added until DMC 3, meaning even if you wanted to get a good style rating, you still wouldn't be playing stylishly, you'd just be doing whatever basic ass combo allows you to attack the enemy the quickest.
I know im a year late, but Vergil had his dt since he was a child
I am so fucking upset at the Kuze slander at 6:30 how dare you Great video anyways!
Mans so horny for vergil and I support that
26:25 you need to show where we can skip in the video to avoid spoilers, if not then everyone's just gonna click away.
When one of the final bosses in Nier Reincarnation was a rhythm game, I remembered this and started shaking.
Many have ponded Taro and his inscrutable approach to game design. Longtime aficionados know the source of is power is his all-consuming hatred of gamers.
Yoko Taro vs Akihito Tsukushi, who is the most sane?
Who's the latter ?

I tried to write more, but it seems like youtube autodeleting my comments for some reason.
Somehow I want to see this kind of rhythm game on "dance of eternity", where even the band couldn't agree on what time signature on a certain measure is.
The starting tempo of The Last Song is moreso in the Moderato to Allegro range, definitely not Andante. That's a super hair split, but I'm a musician so I couldn't help it. This video is very good!
peak video, brilliant writing and delivery, S tier, pure platinum even
You say, who would do this again? I would. I did. I AM that psychopath. Every couple years I would practice again, totally blind, so I don’t get rusty. Each time, it takes far less time than that first sweaty, sleepless night I spent trying to beat it. I’ve been holding out hope for a DOD3 remaster, so I need my body to be literally ready for this fight again. I’m still praying
Crazy how you didn't mention fighting games, where ludonarrative dissonance is basically baked into them
14:18 no i won't i don't hear anything that could help me, i literally can't understand how the song shows where to input. I guess I'm just musically deaf and Yoko Taro hates me for this
1:35 🤨🤨🤨
Now I understand why it felt so wrong to play Sephiroth at the very beginning of FFVII: Rebirth when we barely understand how to switch between Remake and Rebirth controls'. Yes, I didn't felt like Sephiroth AT ALL! :')
how tf can you yap about this shit for 47 minutes
Worth considering that with automic mode in dmc 4 the charge shot is automatic, so yeah power left without any direction or control
god i love drakengard, such a shame we probably won't get more or a remake
Even if this is more of a boss analysis video, the shit Black Song White Scales does musically and structurally are really damn cool. Like, the goal of the boss fight is to "stop" the Final Song. And as such, the song actually fades out exactly one note before the melody of _Kuroi Uta_ actually completes (the tempo slows to a _literal_ crawl). In the context of the game, and the relationship between Mikhail and Zero, this fucking devastates me every time. And also, for some (overindulgent) structural analysis, the Intoners' figures appear from the flower in the order of Zero, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, back to Zero's song - but the _songs?_ The medley of boss themes that have previously been directly associated with each Intoner are in a weird order. Zero's song, One's song, Five's song (???), Four's song, Two's song (?!???), Three's song... back to Zero's song for the finale. Much like Automata's Pod 153 and Pod 042 (012345, the Intoner's numbers split between odds and evens, in the same relative order of "low, high, middle") or Gestalt/Replicant's Grimoires Weiss, Noire, and Rubrum (White, Black, Red, the three colors of Dragon species in Drakengard), this is just some really mechanical shuffling of free associative elements to create an effect that looks random. The six Intoners are themed like Magical Girls (the character designs of Madoka Magica were apparently an inspiration), following color coded outfits. Zero and One both have pure white outfits, but for the sake of argument lets assign Zero "black" since her Song (Kuroi Uta) is "Black Song" - the order of the songs, assigned to the colors, is as so: Black, White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Black. It's just in a chromatic order. A rainbow order. Purple fading back into deep black. It mirrors the numerical sequence of 0, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0.
