The juxtaposition of the christ figure and the air of smug superiority of the cardinal is just perfect.. Such an interesting peice... It's "we can do what you did..but better " from the smug plastic pontiffs.... And the serene nature and exasperation of jesus...

I finished The Brothers Karamazov few weeks ago and in my estimation it is an overrated novel for where we are in our evolutionary phase, to some reasonable degree, it solved a lot as a psychological fiction but we have left that phase, also I noticed multiplicity of genre and lack of a definite correctional line in our psyche, I also saw how useless the theology of Catholicism was portrayed because Father Zosima, Ferapont, Paisy and the rest monks remained almost useless to the society by remaining in the monastery, also I do not understand how he was not able to pull off the ideal “Spirit of Father” even at the last plot in the court drama, somehow the matriarchal/Feminine spirit of chaos manifested so vividly yet no spirit of order for balance. I’m currently reading war and Peace…I hope the array of Characters allow me to draw the juice as I have heard🥤 My review of TBK is here and an unusual one.

I just finished reading The Brothers Karamazov and can appreciate their feeling. I didn’t feel to myself that their world view was necessary for there to be good. I can see Christian people would find it meaningful. As I kept reading, I was awaiting a great insight or weight. It seems to me, it is required a person be immersed in Christianity maybe to think it powerful. Of course, I’m an average Joe and could never write a book that would be highly praised. I recognize this. I feel this book would not have impact in Japan or other non-Christian populations. I read it cause it was referenced by Jordan Peterson.

The Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition (Spanish: Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la Inquisición), commonly known as the Spanish Inquisition (Inquisición española), was established in 1478 by the Catholic Monarchs, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Isabella I of Castile. It began toward the end of the Reconquista and was intended to maintain Catholic orthodoxy in their kingdoms and to replace the Medieval Inquisition, which was under papal control. It became the most substantive of the three different manifestations of the wider Catholic Inquisition, along with the Roman Inquisition and the Portuguese Inquisition. The "Spanish Inquisition" may be defined broadly as operating in Spain and in all Spanish colonies and territories, which included the Canary Islands, the Kingdom of Naples, and all Spanish possessions in North America and South America. According to modern estimates, around 150,000 people were prosecuted for various offences during the three-century duration of the Spanish Inquisition, of whom between 3,000 and 5,000 were executed, approximately 2.7 percent of all cases. The Inquisition, however, since the creation of the American courts, has never had jurisdiction over the Indians. The King of Spain ordered "that the inquisitors should never proceed against the Indians, but against the old Christians and their descendants and other persons against whom in these kingdoms of Spain it is customary to proceed".

idk. maybe just me, but this isnt profound to me. I must first say, though, that I have never experienced extreme suffering/ survival in my life and my world view is constructed through that ...As someone who grew up catholic, went agnostic, buddhist, and now born again Christian. I can answer this dilemma quite easily...(although I understand my knowledge is miniscule compared to the greats) Jesus wasn't the son of God. He is God, and said this. Encoded in flesh. The trinity.. 1x1x1= 1. He didn't just die for our sins. He literally purposefully put himself through tremendous torture of Roman crucifixion to show he too experienced the suffering of reality. But it gets better than that..not only did he put himself through it...we get eternal life because of it kinda an easy answer. curious for others' opinion & truth peace

Over the top performance from Geilgud. I imagined the Inquisitor to be far more simply bureaucratic in his delivery, a la Eichmann, a man merely doing his job and not believing his own tripe, continues in a quiet and exhausted voice to explain the sin of freedom.
