This reminded me of the guy who got free access to our reef and daily free lunches from our resort by claiming to be marine biologist doing marine research. One day I found him looking for our General manager, demanding that there is a crazy fish that must be gotten rid of. He was bitten in both ears. I just told him that it's a mating Titan trigger fish guarding it's territory. He never came back to do marine research. I guess the fish really scared the shit out of him. Just like experts on MSM, this marine expert doesn't have clue about marine life.
According to locals this trigger fish are only aggressive when they are guarding their nest. Just turn back and they will leave you as soon as you are out of their NDZ (Nest Defense Zone).
No need to skip. They are in every coral reef. If they are not in nesting time and you not cross their nest in that time, they are harmless. Ask at best in advance if they are nesting time.
Normally they are a shy fish and difficult spot unless when they are guarding their territory during nesting. I used to go snorkeling often and never came across this Titan trigger fish. But I've caught a couple fishing off shore.
Pretty sure if I came into your home and waved a camera in your face with the deliberate goal of eliciting a reaction, you’d act like just as much, if not more of, a brat than this trigger fish. #fishlove #fishsticks
I e been snorkeling in the Maldives so far only their friends the piccasso has been aggressive with me, I saw a huge titan and he was fine thankfully kinda scary !!
He obviously feels threatened. Leave him alone! 😕
