The fade time varies as well depending on how often you wash your hair, the texture of your hair, environmental factors, etc-it's different for everyone. If you've washed your hair and it's been 24 hours, you can still go ahead and color. Just be sure to avoid coloring if it's been more than 48 hours since washing or if you have a lot of oil-based products in your hair, as this can dilute the color. The average timing to touch up the roots is around every 3-6 weeks, but it can be different for each individual. To maintain cooler tones in the hair, we can recommend using our Color Reviving Espresso Gloss for brunettes (bit.ly/3gdzDDj)or Crema Gloss for blondes (bit.ly/2L8F9fg) around once every 3-4 weeks. Applying permanent color over the new growth only and a gloss over the mid-ends, helps to maintain color without over-pigmenting or over-processing the hair. They are specifically formulated to be used with the developer that is included in the color kit for each shade. We do not recommend mixing our color with a different strength of developer. If you are interested in a gray blending type of result (instead of full gray coverage), we can recommend using our temporary demi-permanent color in our Men's line. Women can use this as well! Madison Reed Color for Men is also a good option if you are looking for gray blending while growing out your hair to avoid a harsh line of demarcation. Hello, we would recommend going to a full service salon to achieve this result. Gray hair does process color differently, and needs more pigment to cover. 💜

@lorban3624 We would love to see a current photo of your hair in natural light as well as a photo of your incoming roots to help determine if our color (light brown) will cover your grays. It is good to note our color can lift up to two levels of natural color. So unless you are 90-100% gray the lightest we would get your natural black hair is a dark brown.
