    Where is a video of you riding Ken. I’m want to see your level in action. The us National team has almost no videos of them actually riding. They still don’t understand upper body or rotation and their arms are still waving all over the place. The low level of carving is embarrassing.

    I want everyone to think about this. The year is 2023. Shaped skis have been around for 20 years. Shaped skis require that you only balance on one ski at a time while you face and lean down the hill and they will make the turns for you. From beginner parallel to racing turns. What did you see these instructors do from the very beginning? They pushed and shoved and twisted the ski Out from Under Them to Force them to change direction. That is what you spend $1,000 a day to be taught. What you saw here will ruin your skiing for your lifetime. What you saw from 0:20 to 0:34 are two completely different things. The first has absolutely nothing to do with the second. The first will prevent you from doing the second. The first doesn't prepare your mind to do the second. No, the first is not a step that needs to be taken to get to the second, it is completely and totally unnecessary and will destroy skiing for you. 0:34 What she said is 95% incorrect and useless. Words or labels don't teach, definitions do. Showing what skiing looks and feels like doesn't teach, it doesn't create an understanding, showing and telling you what you need to do to make skiing look and feel like that, does. That red and blue "Gimmick," nope. People are stronger on one side because like their hands, they favor one leg over the other. I'm right-handed but I like making turns on my left foot over my right foot. It's because my right side is stronger than my left from construction work so my waste on the left side isn't as developed so my upper body angle to my legs is easier to achieve. Just because someone in "Authority" says something is so, doesn't mean it is. You, have to think for yourself!

    Hi Shug, Thanks for the video. I dropped onto CZcams to find out a bit more about edge tuning. The reason I searched was I decided to use my wife's skis today, the have not been used for a few years and the last time she used them, she was not a happy bunny and has not skied on them since and has now given up skiing altogether. So I thought I'd take them to Hemel Snow Centre and try them out. These are adult skis just 123cm long .. Atomic ETL 123. They are so easy to ski on, but I was a bit suspicious that they had been made too sharp all along the edge which made them hard to swivel flat. They were great fun to carve with though. They were last tuned in Italy .. I think I'll take them along to our local ski shop .. the ski exchange near Cambridge.

  • @robscamino
    @robscamino Před 3 lety

    Interesting. I haven't skied for about 30 years! But used to a lot and tried my hand at teaching a bit too. My last skis were 210s. (I'm 174) Loved them. So stable. How things have changed. 🙂 These 'modern' skis look like the 'compacts' that I learned on back in the early 70s. I notice the skiing style is quite different too. Feet are quite far apart.

    Excellent video Joe. I have 2 questions please: 1) Is an ollie the same as a dolphin? 2) Often when I jump my big toe smashes into the front of my boot and the pain is a lot. How to avoid this and is this just an inevitable part of learning jumps?

    • @OfficialBASI
      @OfficialBASI Před 4 lety

      Thanks for the questions. An ollie is similar to the movement you perform during a dolphin turn, however, it's slightly more exaggerated. When performing an ollie, there's more weight on the back of the ski, you actually load and bend the tails of the ski during the takeoff, with a dolphin turn although the back of the ski is the last part of the ski to leave the ground it's generally less weighted. Toe bang is normally caused by either ill-fitting boots (the foot not being properly held in place) or landing back seat (having your weight too far back when landing). Check the buckle on the lower part of your shin isn't too loose and have a think about where your weight is when landing. Spend some time really practicing landing dead center on smaller jumps then work it up and you should find it improves.

    I'm looking to book on the BASI course in july, I have Rossi E84 HD 170cm. Ive lost about 2 stone in weight since i bought them and they are all mountains. Should I hire skis for the course or stick to what i know?

    • @OfficialBASI
      @OfficialBASI Před 5 lety

      Hi Lee, You're better to stick with the equipment you're familiar with for the BASI course, it can be hard to adapt quickly to new equipment. The Rossi ski's you have would be suitable for BASI courses. Just make sure you adjust the DIN's on your bindings to ensure they are safe after the weight loss!

    Is it worth getting a higher level ski to cover all levels up to 3 and 4 rather than buying a new set after 1 and 2 are quickly completed? Do you have recommendations for those higher levels?

    • @OfficialBASI
      @OfficialBASI Před 5 lety

      If you're skiing at a level 3 or 4 standard already, then you might prefer to go for a higher performance ski for the level 1 and 2 courses. However, using a stiffer, higher performance ski might make some of the tasks you're required to complete on BASI courses more difficult. We're working on producing a video recommending skis for level 3 and 4 courses.

    Very informative video. Could you make any recommendations of skis for those wanting to train for a BASI 3 or 4 technical course? As well as if said ski models are best suited to those of smaller or bigger bodyweights and heights?

    • @OfficialBASI
      @OfficialBASI Před 6 lety

      Thanks for the comment! We're planning on working on a recommendation video for level 3 and 4 courses at the next ski test. With regards to bodyweight and height, Ben mentions that some of the skis here would be more suitable to lighter and heavier skiers so it's certainly something we can continue to mention in future videos.
