Hi welcome to Seattle Figs Channel! I'm Kim Tien, I live in Seattle, WA is also known as Pacific Northwest (PNW) zone 8B. My son, Long will be sharing kid's gardening educational videos on how to grow fruit trees in our area. There are many cold-hardy fruit trees that will survive our winters. we can grow many varieties of fruits, such as pears, peach, nectarines, plums, Asian persimmons, jujubes, figs, grapes, mulberries, and many others. We review all the fruits we grow. We compare fruit size, disease resistance, productivity, overall flavor and we give a rating. Please subscribe to our channel to be the first to see our new videos! And please if you have any questions or comments please email or message on the FB page. This is a kids channel no comments. If you are a local in WA and are interested in collecting rare figs I have some listed for sale on Figbid or Tree Snatch. you can click on the Figbid or Tree Snatch link to see what I have available. 8/4/24 We are having an awesome summer with extreme heat in for July and the grapes love it. Poor fruit set can be seen on clusters that are too shaded. correct pruning in winter will reduce this issue next season. Clusters in full sun are excellent in comparison. There are many other reasons why they could be poor fruit set in grapes. Ours is just the overcrowded and lack of full sun in some a...

Hi, thank you for your review. I’ve been searching for reviews on this grape because I think it would do well in my area, but I do have one question. You know how some grapes are advertised as seedless, but really have kind of soft seeds that aren’t very pleasant to eat? Well, I was wondering if the Reliance grapes are truly seedless or do they have those soft-ish seeds in them? Thanks for any info you can give on this.
thank you for watching my channel and finding it helpful! yes some "seedless table grapes" have noticeable seeds depends on the variety. based on my experience the reliance is truly seedless. i have not found any trace of hard seeds. unlike other varieties i have tested.
@@SeattleFigs Ah! Nice! I’ll place an order for them in the spring. Thanks so much for your response. Have a wonderful evening!
My Desert King is young, so I just had 1 fruit this year… I am hoping to find a better fig that produces main crops in Puyallup area. Do you have any suggestions?
im hoping to make a video of main crop it will most likely be in september. but for now on top of my mind, earliest main crop will be florea fig.
Thanks for your reply. I will try to get one from local nursery. Also I am looking forward to seeing the video about main crop varieties. I was kinda disappointed about my Desert King this year, but was able to harvest 300 plums during that time, so I cannot complain so much.
@@takamasa6865 what type of plums did you harvest?
Nothing special. It was Methley plum. I froze quite a lot of them, so I am making jams for kids and hard cider or wine for adults.m with it.
@@takamasa6865 wow i didnt know plum wine or plum hard cider. i only eaten fresh. yes methley plum is productive.
Thanks you great chanel. Greeting from Poland.
Aren't canadice grapes more red? What nursery are they from?
I don't know what nursery my mom planted them more than 20 years ago. the location it is planted and our climate here in seattle, WA could be a little cooler than open space and warmer climates which makes it more red evenly. They look like this every year. And, the tree is mature. We have rooted smaller plants from this vine and even young plants have the same color uneven red.
Still very pretty ❤
I am getting a tree next year. Trees of Antiquity stated that the fruit has a 'superb' flavor. They also mentioned that a pollenator tree will make this persimmon have a few seeds. But, if it is pollinates itself, it will be seedless. So, i was wondering if yours are seedless since it is pollinating itself. I am curious as this is my first persimmon tree.
i have removed chocolate persimmon so i don't know.
Do you grow all your mulberry in the ground? Is there any mulberry good for pots and still produce a lot of fruit? Thanks for sharing.
no they are currently all potted. i plan to plant them in ground once i get my layout and other yard design finished. they produce well for potted but it will be no where near as productive as in ground.
If that's a tennosui it's unripe. They are brown when ripe.
Do you remember what nursery you purchased the Australian Mulberry from? I'm also in the Seattle area and would lover to find one. Thanks so much!
hi i haven't been able to find it locally. but perhaps you can call around to see if any nearby nursery offers. i got it from cutting via trade. if you join some fruit groups on fb you will find others to trade for scions. if you are interested i do have a rooted tree email me for price at nwfruits1@gmail.com

Very nice. Both of my white mulberries didnt make it. Same supplier. One dormant this winter and one late spring that didnt make it through delivery. Got to fin another one. Where did you get yours?
i traded other other US fruit growers. you can join some forums or fb groups to trade for scions.
How are the brebas compared to the main crop? Shape, size, taste, etc.
Silk hope mulberry can grow in cold climates I have some in zone 6 ma
Do you sell cut from black jack
you can message me in winter to see if i'm offering cuttings. thank you.

Have you tasted one from a more mature tree yet? If so how was it
For me, it tasted similar to Illinois Everbearing when mature. It was sweet and not grassy.
I have the same pear tree, the pears are bland, but try canning them in a light syrup. It'll soften them and make them sweeter.😊
thank you
thank you, can you show the actual plant.
Cây trồng của bạn đã nảy Lộc và phát triển khá tốt .
I grow Reliance. These are darker than mine. Mine are more pink.
i hope to have a new review on this variety this year if the fruits make it to ripening time. hope the size on the fruit cluster improves with age.
Hello.. Im writing to you 3 years late.. but I just figured out what you are saying.. My Chocolate persimmon tree has TONs of flowers and 1 branch and a half may produce fruits... Unlike Fuyu or Hachiya where the flowers goes to fruit.. I guess the Chocolate persimmon tree only have a little amount of fruits. If i have 20 branches flowering.. only 1 branch would be female and goes to fruit..
yes thank you for sharing your experience. my tree in particular full of fruits, if i were to compare it to any other asian persimmon the fruit productive is roughly the same. but the issue as you pointed out is correct too! meaning it is not reliable because it can have more male flower than female flowers unlike other asian persimmons.
@@SeattleFigs thank you for replying and letting me know what I didn’t know until I looked at my Pentry today and made that assumption so now I feel better knowing what I’m looking at instead of being depressed. And now knowing All the flowers are falling off and wondering how come they’re not being pollinated.
How is it compared to Calamondin?
much better in taste and size. and less sour an edible kumquat in comparison.
Great video! I just bought a min peach tree and I will be planting it today! I have no ideas how to grow these but your info came in helpful
Update? Did they wnd up getting sweeter? Looking into some Jewel bare roots but honestly cant find too much on them
My favorite graft is a bark graft. I just use Buddy Tape and rubber bands to simplify things.
Good tip about a pollinator
Thank you for sharing, we just bought one. I'm curious if you have figured out if it is disease resistant it?
i need a few year to observe for disease resistence. however, i do know it needs cross pollination and it is not self fertile.
So cool! I had no idea you could even grow these up here! Do you happen to know what variety it is?
" Wells" is the name of this variety of pawpaw. pawpaw does well here in WA state
@@SeattleFigs Good to know! I'll have to go get some planted.
You grapes look good somtimes it is hard for me to prune. Do you have Black Crimean fig? I have been trying to find it and some opinions on it.
thank you! i do have but it hasn't fruited for me. maybe this summer it will.
@@SeattleFigs Okay I guess you got it from Pete. Maybe I can get it from you on fig bid or our figs some time, I'm MattK. Do the Japanese beetles eat your grape leaves?
@@matthewking2209 yes i did get it from him. you can get it directly from pete he usually offers his trees for sale once he settles down at his new location. i dont have any issue with japanese bettles yet.
@@SeattleFigs Okay I don't think he has it anymore he sold all 3 of his trees on fig bid when he moved I think. You and 2 others bought them. I have been trying to find it for a friend. No one on our figs claims to have it. My friend thinks it might be the best VDB type for his area. I would gladly trade buy a extra plant or air layer from you. If you are not able I understand and will keep searching. Thank you.
@@matthewking2209 i didn't know he sold all i just thought he sold the bigger trees and kept smaller tree or cuttings to move easy. and root at his new location. i'll have to see how it is doing i don't plan to do any air layer this summer for any of my trees but perhaps in winter if it is large enough i can trade cuttings. remind me then.
is it cold hardy? do you leave it outside over the winter?
i think it is only hardy to zone 8b yes i do have it outside in winter.
is there any tartness balance or just straight sweet bland?
its so long ago i have rehomed the tree. however, i remember it has a wine type of flavor which is more acid then sweet for me.
Beautiful my himrod grape vine is fruit set and blooming now late April 2024 I hope to harvest in. August or September
Do you still grow this nectarine variety? has it been reliable in your climate.
With any peach or nectarine in PNW you will need to spray for leaf curl. we are unable to keep up with the spray schedule so we currently don't have any.
How old is this tree? It looks well taken care of
it belong to a friend, he takes very good care of his tree. i believe he said it was a tiny quart tree when he bought it been over 10 years.
I had Reine Claude gage, think it ancestors of green gage, it was sweet but only 5 fruit in uk. Flavorking taste way better even tho we don’t get warm summers
i think most pluots have better fruit size. texture, and flavor than Asian or European plums.
@@SeattleFigs victoria plum is best I had for flavour and toptaste plum 🤤jst couldn’t stop eating them
@@TheAstonp where are you located? i haven't seen much victoria plum in PNW area.
Beautiful peaches 🍑
Hi there, I am located at PNW zone and I am considering growing the Emerald drop pluot, throughout you video, you mentioned that your friend gave it to you, is he in the Pacific Northwest as well? And you mentioned “only two type of tree” that will pollinate it but never said which type. I would really love to know
the best pollinator for emerald drop pluots are Flavor Grenade Pluot or Santa Rosa plum.
Container grown? How big of a container did you start with and how big is it at now? How long did it take to fruit? Would love an update!
my peaches start at 1 gal and repot these ended up in 30 gal pots and stop there. This particular peach tree is a bonsai tree so it is most constricted in root sizing. So i don't up pot them if i had to covert the bonsai pot size to a standard nursery pot it would only fill up to 5 gal pot size. it wouldn't grow as big as 30 gal potted peach trees. roughly 3 to 4 years before fruiting age.
Getting ready to graft some of these.
Thank you!!!!

Unpollinated version, if left to perfectly ripened will the astringent content go away?
How big is the tree?
5 ft in 15 gal pot
I can grown is tree in Houston Texas ?
Hello, So no male Kiwi is needed?
does it need the wasp ?
no it doesnt need wasp. however, this variety if pollinated will be like the one I tasted pollinated Burgan Unk is different than unpollinated.
Are they sweet like Golden Kiwi?
