How easy was this to install and tune?
Will this work for a 2002 XLT 4x4 4.0 supercab?
Can I buy this kit from you ? If so, I have a few questions. Please send a link or an email address. Ty
How much?
What woukd u put the cost on parts for this?
All that work and money just for a gain of 8 horsepower, it doesn't make sense i thought it would be 300ish hp not worth it
Would this work on a 95 4.0
How many hp here?
The stock 4.0 v-6 made a claimed 210hp. Adding a supercharger that pushes the limits of 93 octane pump gas, (about 10psi boost), adds about 60% more power. How's your math? If not good, sue your schools. :)
@@EarthSurferUSA really yobnutiy
Bout 300-325 hp 350-375 tq.
How many miles has it made since supercharger?
Do you guys have one for a 3.0
Thank you for continuing to reply to comments over the years! Question.. 97 Explorer SOHC V6 4.0.... Possible? Seems like this is the kit right?
Awsome! How about for my automatic 96 ford ranger xlt 2wd 4.0 . What would that cost and would it really work?
What is the liklyhood i could do this for my 2002 Ford explorer Eddie Bauer 4.0?
What options do you have in finding M90 Supercharger. Does it need to be from/off a Ford (Thunderbird) specifically?
czcams.com/video/cx21-TzODNA/video.html id really like to know the numbers with what ive done plus the supercharger, id estimate 310 (250) hp and 350 (270) torque or maybe a little less since i have a 4wd. id also want to upgrade the pistons, get an electric fan, a bigger cam if thats an option, an underdrive pulley and an overdrive alternator pulley... i dont think theres anything I could possibly do after that, ive heard throttle body spacers are pointless as well as a bigger maf and injectors without a supercharger
can i have one for my 02 ranger xlt4x4
This is a great product. Love mine.
No whine??
6 cylinders don’t whine like an 8 cylinder does, supercharger itself isn’t as capable since it’s installed on a v6 rather then your typical v8
@@cristianavila8109this is incredibly wrong, the amount of cylinders does not effect supercharger whine.
@@55Berg im from facebook
@@cristianavila8109 You have zero clue.
@@55Berg But the exhaust does. Mine has no more wine with the Cervini's side exhaust. :)
I'm purchasing a ford ranger tomorrow I already know its gonna be super slow :( what's the advantages of doing this compared too an LS swap? from my experiences the big 3's v6 trucks were always worse on fuel than the v8 half tons. what would the mileage be like with a supercharged 4.0? would a cammed 5.3 be better on fuel? i know my 4.8 when it was running right got 20MPGS all day
It’s way easier to keep stock engine, I think stock the 4 L gets about 15 to 22 miles per gallon if you really try. It would also be more useful if you wanted to keep the original Dash because it uses a can bus system for the gauges
@@carloslara7452 are these motors reliable long term under boost though?
Can i supercharge my 3.0 for ranger 2008????
How big of a pain in the rear is this transformation
Will a Pontiac GTP M90 work?
Not it will not, it's a different style m90.
@@allanb3222 Aw RIP
Modme, I was told by another performance shop that it wasn’t recommended to supercharge/turbocharge a stock 4.0 SOHC engine because the piston crowns on these engines are thin and are prone to shattering. Even under a mild boost. What are your thoughts on that?
Piston rings
The piston rods are forged but the pistons are just cast so they're pretty weak reguardless. Also the heads are also weak too everything to cams to lifters are weak. The factory headstuds are weak too. So I wouldn't boost it until you get some head work done at the very least or just 3-5 psi atleast.
Nice What year this truck
Did you do anything with the internals, I was thinking about swapping my motor than I came to realize I should just rebuild my motor and build it some what, and I don’t want to much internal stuff but I want a turbo or supercharger
The stock pistons and stock heads are pretty weak. You can get away the the stock pistons, but the stock heads need some work or you'll send them to the moon.
Against what most people would say I would build the old 2.9 cologne and install a stroker and overbore raise the compression up a bit and you can get close to 300hp out of the 3.5. The cologne engines are often made fun of but they used them for rally cars for a reason.
$3200 for 50hp??? My 4.8 ls swap only cost 1500-1600
What app are you using?
What would you suggest for an 04 Ranger Edge 3.0L V6? I ideally would like to improve mpg and overall performance but nothing crazy. Bolt on preferable.
The 3.0 can't really handle boost like the 4.0, if you're looking for small upgrades, full exhaust (headers, Y pipe, and high flow muffler or straight pipe if you want, no cat would be ideal, and keep it in that configuration, the 3.0 doesn't flow a lot so if you made it dual exhaustyoud lose exhaust velocity which hurts HP, stay with headers into a Y pipe), a cold air intake, doesn't need to be fancy, just needs to go into the wheel well so it's not sucking hot air from the engine bay. A good tune up would help also, fresh plugs, clean filters, etc. Gears If you want significant power then a 4.0 or 5.0 swap would be more logical than trying to squeeze HP out of the 3.0. Either that or upgrade to a half ton truck Hope that helps
@@benjamins9121 Like I said not looking for crazy performance mods just small changes to improve overall mpg which typically also adds a little perf as a knock on effect.
@@jeffclark5206 Yeah then free flowing exhaust, cold air intake, a tune up, and if you can get it done cheaply a tune. If you've had a car tuned before the shop will be much cheaper for returns but the first time is probably gonna be expensive
bruh my stock ranger goes faster than that
How much did the suoercharger cost?
The kit from Moddbox is 2 thousand, although sometimes they have sales for 1700-1800ish. An Eaton M90 supercharger can be found for 350ish, maybe more for a freshly rebuilt one, so let's say 400 probably
Also they sell superchargers as well for 800-900, they are fully rebuilt and refurbished. I personally would just get the kit from them and buy a used blower for less
What kind of problem have you run into with this and what engine did this come off of with the thunder bird
3.8 V6 was the motor in the Super Coupe Thunderbird. If you keep boost low, like 3.5-5 PSI there are no problems, the stock bottom end isn't very strong so if you run 9-10 PSI it can become a problem with beating the engine up to much, plus when you start moving the boost up more the exhaust temps get higher. But at 3.5 for example it doesn't create any problems and it doesn't beat itself up or decrease reliability/durability Also, no tune or fuel injector/ fuel pump upgrades are needed for 3.5 PSI, in my book 3.5 is ideal, it provides the largest HP per PSI improvement compared to the other higher boost pulleys, doesn't need other modifications, and doesn't affect reliability or beat the motor up.
What kind of problem have you run into with this
I had a question about supercharging my 06 4.0l, do you guess s supercharger that fits? Or would I be able to use a mustang 4.0l one or a Thunderbird kind of design??
The Eaton M90 is what this kit is designed for, the supercharger that came on T-Bird Super Coupes There are different versions though, like GM ones, they are not all interchangeable. Just an FYI
ok diving miss daisy you showed ne how not to go fast or brake the car now show me what it can realy do an hold together !
because that was sad an boring
drive it like you stolid it !
Would this work on a 2010 ranger v6 4.0?
Yes
anyone know where I can add one in Chicago. I have a 03 ford explorer sports trac with 36k actual miles from one that sat in the garage since 03.
What is 0-60
How do i recognize what kind of Engine i have? Wanted to buy a 99 Ford Explorer 4x4 with 207 hp listed.... Still not sure if thats an OHV or SOHC
Sohc
The SOHC came in the Explorer starting in 2002. So that means you have a 4.0 OHV, that's if you're sure you don't have a 5.0 small block, they made the same HP as the 4.0 but had more torque.
Does this mean I can put it on my 97 ranger its a 4.0
If it’s the ohv no this truck is the sohc it’d require a different adapter set up
That sucks really was hoping I could I got ohv
@@509cr1st1an make a custom adapter plate and run an m62 or m90 on the stock lower manifold
Is there any forums or website I can look into so I can get an idea do I buy the mod box kit and just make custom adapter?
Whats the difference between the m90 gtp supercharger and the m90 thunderbird supercharger?
I have a 2002 4.0 ranger and want to supercharge it, which one is easier to do the gtp sc or the t-burd sc
Do you ever really get on it, in the video?
Will this work for the 4.0 in the ford courier? I’m all the way from aus and I’ll be looking at picking this kit up from you guys real soon
Where is this truck now?
Are there any guides to supercharging the 4.0 V6 in a ranger?
The kit comes with good instructions, it isn't something someone who's used a wrench before couldn't handle
Any link???
Ranger Shop on youtube has a video where he shows installation
just ordered a kit!
Should have did a 5.0 swap out of a mountaineer or explorer
Thinking of doing it... but idk how how it would be
Would this setup work on a 1996 ford ranger xlt 4.0 4x4? Very curious
Sorry, you got the OHV engine.
The delta at 2k and 3k RPMs is FANTASTIC!!!! 2k + ~ 125ft lbs up to 225 ft lbs. Why didn't this engine have a supercharger option from Ford?
Only thing that I wonder about is, the injectors are stock. Even at 3.5 psi, they're running at a level that I'm not sure they were ever designed for. I worry they might wear out faster because of it.
I plan to get one of these in the near future for my 07 explorer 4.0 4x4. Are they still available? Also, does this require higher octane fuel and colder spark plugs? Thanks.
Yep. Check out our website for all the details. Your model (all drive by wire electronic models), must be tuned at all boost levels. Kit is available and instock.
