You put yourself through so much needlessly as it turned out. It’s a shame you didn’t have more faith in your parents and close friends. It’s hard to know when to broach your sexual feelings to others. Mostly the only people who care are potential lovers. Others don’t have a dog in the show no matter what they think. As a matter of convenience and social mixing it is easier if those who know you well are aware of your preferences. But it isn’t essential. Who you love is your business and doesn’t need to be front page news to anyone. If everyone doesn’t care then that’s that. If they do and are not ok with it then you can avoid them until they finally get on board. You don’t have to please everyone and you never will. What you can’t change about yourself is either accepted without condition or it isn’t. If not then simply go on your way. There are plenty of people who don’t care and they will be very happy to include you in their circle.

I am 86; how grateful I should have bern had such personal validation bern available in my childhood and adolescence. I was 72 before I came out to my family, my parents long dead. The whole "coming out" concept is very damaging. It makes you admit there is something wrong with you. Did your brother or sister feel the need to come out as a hetro-sexual? No. Just arrive at your next family gathering with your partner and say "this is my partner". If any one has an issue it is their issue not yours. Don't pigeon hole, corn hole.

I cannot get my head around the kack of education in school was in junior school in the latter few tears ofvtge 1970s and we new about homosexuals. So your talking about being in highschool in 2000s and nit really being educated to understand. Good god my mother and grand mother holy Roman Catholic high church. Haters typically possess some degree of ego-dystonic behavior. Don’t waste your time in people like this. Life is too damn short! You’re cute, smart, becoming a doctor.... & the hater probably isn’t.

Just saw this site. As a physician of 26 years, things “get better” AFTER med school. Residency was great, but the challenges, frustrations & exhaustion of medicine post residency is a new kind of frustration. Decreasing reimbursements, legal issues, non compliant patients, etc. really challenge every physician. But there’s nothing like being a physician. I’ve seen the beginning of life, the end of life & everything in-between. Kudos to you young man.
