The Salty Travel Bugs

Ben and Fei are scientists that worked on drug discovery. We are raising our two children in San Diego, California, and we love to surf as a family. Though we live in paradise, we believe the world has much diversity to offer, and for the 2022 to 2023 school year, we are traveling around the world with our surfboards to catch some waves and learn some cultures. This channel documents some highlights of our journey.

Very cool. FSM has always been on my bucket list - and my first choice to live if I could. I have to say: the voiceover narrative was top notch. I’m sure it was scripted, but this young man came across very professionally and much more poised than most. Consider a career path utilizing this oratory talent , as you are a natural.

1419 General Zhang Hu arrived here and left leaving pottery, beads and blood, Khoisan are a mixture of black and Chinese. 1485 Batolomia Diaz(Portuguese) landed in Cape town and was defeated by the Khoisan, 1496 they defeated Vasco da Gama then D Almeida in 1509 and that is when the Portuguese gave up. Afrikaans was created by the Khoisan and was used for communicating with foreign(Portuguese, French, etc) traders. Chinese were the 1st recorded to land in Cape Town in 1419. The Dutch came 1590 having knowledge of the Khoisan and how they defeated the Portuguese and arrived as traders and traded with the Khoisan for over 60 years with over 2000 ships docking there until they deceived the Khoisan(some military ships disguised as traders came and attacked while the Khoisan were relaxed and trusting) and took the land by force 1652. They(Khoisan) were hunted down and killed forcing the survivors to retreat into the wild, hence today they are known as bush men. The Dutch rewrote history in the process making them the 1st to discover the Cape and stole the afrikaans language as their own and modified it to their liking after taking over

We didn't see any mosquitoes while we were there as it is winter. The weather is quite pleasant and cool in the evening, so bring warm clothes.
