We see more train action at the Cologne Hauptbahnhof station with a good mix of Deutches Bundesbahn DB trains and trains from several private operators.

We travel between the main station in Cologne, Hauptbahnhof, across the Rhine River on the Hohenzollern bridge which has 6 tracks. We arrive at the busy Messe Deutz station just the other side of the river. This must be one of the busiest stretches of railway line in Europe and can be easily watched from the footpath running alongside the line.

We spend 3 hours at Edinburgh Waverley station where train movements are dominated by Scotrail diesel and electric multiple units. We see numerous class 158, 170, 334 and 385 units in action. The Heatherslaw Light Railway is a light railway with a purpose. Situatied in the Ford and Etal estate in Northumberland it connects the hamlet of Heatherslaw, which has a working corn mill that can be visited, with Etal village providing a very useful and enjoyable way of getting around the estate.

We watch the arrival of a service from Leyburn into Leeming Bar on the Wensleydale Railway on the 24th May 2024. The lack of usable run round facilities at Leeming Bar require some interesting shunting movements with the use of a 1977 Brush built Tyne & Wear Metro diesel shunter loco to bring the train in for 33035 to reattach to the train for the next service back to Leyburn. See an overview of Bridgnorth shed and watch Hagley Hall being moved around the site on the 5th May 2024. The Severn Valley Railway have a superb set up with the steam shed at Bridgnorth and the diesel depot on the edge of Kidderminster.

Travelling between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth there is plenty to see along the Severn Valley Railway. In addition to the lovely countryside and the River Severn we find a variety of trains at Bewdley, Arley and Highley as well as a large collection of engines at Kidderminster depot.
