This is so interesting! I’ve never thought to try these on fabric. Do they wash out?
@@erinburgess607 inktense pencils are made with permanent India ink and once you set them, they are permanent and washable.
What fabric do you use? What do you use so it doesn’t bleed?
I use 100% Cotton Sateen…. The Fabrico markers don’t bleed and my fabric medium keeps the pencil from bleeding
Can we use baby oil or aloe vera for medium? I just got my inktense pencils and I don't have medium, ty
Of the two choices, I definitely would stick to aloe Vera…. Be sure not to get too much on your brush and heat once your work is dry. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@medinadomesticartsstudio thank you very much, I really like your videos, your very talented
lol me too!
Sweet your doing my dachshund!! Love!
Yes! So many people love doxies! I plan to put him in a doxie only wallhanging!
❤❤❤great finish! Thanks for
Thank you! 😊
A plan z is to cut out the insect and sew or glue him onto another piece of fabric. It’s for the worst case scenario
Yes particularly since I colored it on batik I could glue him onto another piece…. Just silly of me not to listen to my own advice!😜
yeah that is a genius o o n a g h 72
😂😂😂😂
Wow!! Looking good!!!
This is so beautiful! I would like to try this. I have been painting on clothing using Golden Paints and their GAC medium that turns the paint into heat-set fabric paint. It's so incredibly rewarding to create designs directly on fabric!
I use GAC 900 fabric medium quite a lot myself although I do make my own fabric medium from pro chemical and Dye’s raw materials…
@@medinadomesticartsstudio Oh, that's really cool!
Love your tutorial. I’m going to check out some more of your videos. I found you in the comment section on Anne Livingston Art videos. She had mentioned that it’s a mystery why there aren’t more older women doing CZcams. I a 60 year old who started CZcams last November. Your right your never to old to learn something new. There is so much to learn about having a CZcams channel. Slowly but surely I’m getting there lol. Thanks for sharing your knowledge here on CZcams!
Thanks Laura! I love how to videos (mini quilt rack caught my eye) and just subscribed to your channel! I think CZcams is a bit intimidating to our generation... the younger bunch can just whip out videos and post almost instantaneously ... not something I do easily BUT I just keep at it! I'll keep posting if you'll keep posting! ;-0

I found the CZcams to make, but cannot find the place to order on your website. I don’t see it in the pens category. Can you help? Thanks again!
I’m really good at hiding things on my website!🤣 medinadomarts.com/shop/ols/products/pearlescent-fabric-medium-2-oz
Found both your video to make medium and website to buy, BUT could not find the medium for sale.
Do you sell or give the recipe for the shimmer medium?
Yes, I do sell it on my website look in the pencil section. However, if you would like to make your own check out the step-by-step video I made on how to make your own fabric medium. It should be in my playlist. If you cannot find it let me know and I’ll send you a link.
Do you wipe your pencils after dipping them in the medium or do you just sharpen them after they dry.
Excellent question! Both, actually... I find that wiping will get most of the medium off but ultimately, if I have been dipping alot, I have to sharpen the pencil once the medium is dry on the tip. Thanks for your feedback!
Do you have any of the bling- bling in your shop?
Yes m'am! Here is the link: medinadomarts.com/shop/ols/categories/bling Let me know if you have any questions or are looking for something specific! thanks!
Thank you Michelle! Awesome tips. Of course I love the outcome of the more expensive Purely Pigments. I'm excited to try all of them. Thank you for going the extra mile and making this video for us.
I feel really bad that we weren’t able to complete class! And thank you so much for your kind words Sherry! It’s such a pleasure to have you in my class…. Hope to see you again soon.😍
Very good review for me. I actually watched the whole thing in one sitting 🤣

Such a cute design! 😊
Thank you! 😊
Will you be adding this design to your shop?
It’s there now! I updated the info in the description and it tells you how to order it!😀
This is a class I have been asking for!!! Guess I'll just have to get the directions off your website since I don't belong to a quilt guild or live in a private rv park. 😢
This class as well as two others are being offered at the Best Little Retreat Center In Texas. These classes are open to anyone. I have one lady who drove all the way from Kerrville to come up and take these classes. The Retreat Center has one of the best classrooms I have had the opportunity to teach in as it is big enough to handle up to 25 students… very few quilt shops have classrooms of this size…. I hopefully will continue to offer public classes here at least twice a year…
Tried to order but it won’t let you click on either. Looking for DTF.
@@lisaromans7322 well darn it! I am out of town at the moment but will be home Friday and take a look at the website and fix it. Then I will send you a text to let you know it is up and running again. Sorry for the delay, but will be happy to give you free shipping to make it up to you.😊
Can you then paint over the white out? Great tip, thanks, Molly
Depends on what you are going to use to paint over it. If it’s translucent, the wideout will show through. If you use some thing that has a bit of opacity in it. It will probably cover it up.
Looks great with the pink background!
Thanks! I’m pretty happy with it…. It’s a class sample and I wanted my students to see something completely finished (I am horrible about leaving something unfinished on ALL my projects!🤣)
That's good, you're students see that you're human. I bring stuff with mistakes sometimes so they see we all make them, lol
Fabulous!!!!❤
How does that work? Is it paper or a machine of some type?
I have done a couple of other videos specifically on DTFs but let me give you the quickie version: DTF Transfer (Direct to film) is a type of printer that shoots ink onto a plastic film. While the ink is still wet, it is "bathed" in a special adhesive then dried in an oven. Once dry, you can iron it on to just about anything... and it works fantastic on cotton fabric! Whether quilting cotton, shirting or a tee shirt, DTF will stick to them all! The best part is is that once the ink is on the fabric it is very permanent. Now, if you do a full color DTF, you will definitely be able to feel it on the fabric but it is not stiff... I just washed a quilt today that was made with DTFs, and it came out nice and soft with very little feel. This is going to probably be the way of the future for me as I can only stitch out so many blocks on my embroidery machines. I use Ninja Transfers (there are plenty of companies out there that do DTF transfer printing) as their transfers seem very high quality. I included a link to their website in my description. Do yourself a favor and take a look at what they offer... it's pretty amazing!
what does fully heat set paint feel like? does it still feel like scratchy dry paint or does it feel like it's not even there?
Good question! It ranges from feeling like nothing is there (Tsukineko Inks feel this way after it is heat set) to a slightly stiff feeling such as denim feels after acrylic markers or paint has been applied and heat set. All other coloring tools feel somewhere in between.... It's one of the reasons I test everything before I recommend it for fabric painting. There are some tools out there that simply dry too stiff for my liking so I have eliminated them as a tool I would use in my kits or in class. Hope this answer helps. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions you may have regarding fabric painting!
Question: have you tried a dry brush technic with the Tsukineko Inks? No medium needed. 😊
Do you have a video on how to do this? I think I have tried using every technique I’ve learned to use the ink without fabric medium but have failed every time!
I love you channel!! It gives me more ideas for painting on fabric. I teach classes using Tsukineko inks, but I'm going to try a few of the brands you use. They look awesome! Thank you for sharing all of the testing!
Woo woot ❤❤❤❤❤
So are you saying you can use the gel pens on fabric?
Yes, Laura, you can however the only ones that I know that are permanent and washable are those made by Sakura - their Gelly roll line as well as Arteza’s gel pens. I have tested these as well as other extensively. If you have any further questions about this, please do not hesitate to comment further! Thanks!
So very Awesome! We have thought about looking into the printers but if you can get the designs printed then why buy the printer. I would love to come hang out with you sometime. LOL
What is the Lo Croc Binder for? Why wouldn’t you just use fabric medium?
Hi Kim… the low crock binder is one of the ingredients that I use in my fabric medium. The question was asked about how to make opaque fabric medium with a variety of ingredients one of which was the low crock binder. If you want to maintain high opacity low crock binder is not as watery as some fabric mediums are. Hope this answers your question. Let me know if not, and I will try to explain further. Thanks for checking in.😊
I’m wanting to paint RV cushions and I have latex paint on hanf. Is it OK to mix acrylic medium with the latex
Hmmm... the problem with latex is that it dries hard. However, it could be that mixing it with the acrylic medium would give it some flexibility. let me run that past a couple of people I know who know the chemical makeup of paint better than I and I will let you know... Are the RV cushions the fake leather or the cloth version?
Thank you I look forward to hearing back from you. Their cloth at least one side is.
Is it possible to use acrylic medium with latex paint?
Wow! Teri - I don't know! I have never attempted that... I will certainly give it a try and let you know...
Thank you very much. You are the best.
❤❤❤❤❤
Can I use that fabric paint on fabric sneakers?
Absolutely! In order to heat set the sneakers, throw them into a dryer at the hottest setting for an hour- 1.5 hours to assure that the paint is washable…
@medinadomesticartsstudio won't it overheat the plastics? (Converse chucks for example) thanks for the help
@@marcblue5687 Hmmm... without knowing each brand of tennis shoes/sneakers that could happen... another way to heat set would be to use a hair dryer. You would have to use it for about 5-10 minutes in each spot and as with the dryer, be careful of possibly melting plastic on the shoe.
I'm using opaque fabric paint. So I should use the opaque extender instead of silk&fabric extender, right?
Yes! Now here is the tricky part - how much opaque extender to use ! I would suggest starting out with a small sample using tablespoons of each mixture to come up with the ratios. It can be very easy to put too much opaque extender in which can make your paint chalky. If this doesn't make sense let me know and I will do a quick video on this!
@medinadomesticartsstudio Thank you for your answer. Silk&fabric extender looks more liquid than opaque extender. If i only mix opaque extender, lo crock binder and transparent extender, i think it will be thicker than yours, even if I mix less amount of opaque extender. Will it be a problem or should I mix with thinner or silk&fabric extender too? If it will be easier to explain, I would be appreciated to watch your quick video.
@@ChaiShe1 I just made a new video on making opaque fabric medium. I think it will answer your questions for you! Let me know if you need any further information! Enjoy!
I just ordered the ingredients with silk extender. I’m looking to paint velvet. Should I have ordered opaque extender instead? Also what ratio of acrylic paint do you use for this?? And any acrylic paint will do???
@@debizand hi Deb. I have never painted on velvet however I believe you need opaque paint to work on velvet. So if I were to recommend acrylic paints, I would start with Jacquard Neo Opaque Fabric Paints as well as their Lumiere Metallic Paints… both have excellent opacity and work very well on dark or black fabric. If you want a very high-quality high sheen paint then I recommend.Prizmpour by Colourarte. Finally I can recommend nova acrylic paints, but you need to be careful as some of their paints are translucent rather than opaque. You will need to read the detailed description of each to determine which is which. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
Love the roses!!
Oh, I am so glad! I will be teaching this as a class at the Best Little Retreat Center In Texas May. Let me know if you were interested and I will send you the particulars on the class.
Can you join the class if you're one of your past students?
Can anyone sign up for these classes? Or is are these just for a local guild?
But Inktense pencils aren't watercolor pencils... You have to get, specifically, Inktense watercolor pencils... Don't you?
Inktense pencils are a type of water color pencil, but instead of pigment and binder they are made with dried India Ink. Having said that, I have a number of washed items that I colored with watercolor pencils and fabric medium and once heat set, washed just as well as items colored with Inktense pencils. I think the biggest difference is that Inktense is permanent on fabric if you just used water whereas watercolor pencils have to have fabric medium in order to be permanent and washable. Please let me know if you have any further questions! ;-)
What is fabric medium?
It is a liquid polymer that causes the color in pencils to adhere to the fibers of the fabric. When it is heat set with an iron, it “melts” into the fibers and traps the color making it permanent and washable. Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Awesome test ❤
