(Trans)Forming Indian Science Institutions: Putting the Political Back in Science | Sayantan Datta
The relationship between the ideals of science and the practice of science has always been in tension. Who, Where and How is allowed to participate in science questions the scientific community often leaves out in its discussions about science. As future scientists, it falls upon us to make sure these conversations happen and the distance between ideals and practice is reduced as much as possible.
In the spirit of being open to those dialogues, we invite you all to an evening talk by Sayantan Dutta.
Sayantan Datta (they/them) is a queer-trans science journalist who writes at the intersections of science, gender, sexuality, health and caste. They are a faculty at the Centre for Writing and Pedagogy, Krea University, and a member of TheLifeofScience.com, a feminist multimedia science collective.
Abstract: Conversations around diversity, equity and inclusion in the Indian science ecosystem have remained limited mainly to questions of access and retention. These conversations have rightly foregrounded issues faced by cisgender women in the science ecosystem. However, for the most part, science institutions have not breached social and political questions around the nature and culture of science and its practice. In this talk, I will draw from queer and feminist histories of science and my ongoing research work to talk about social and political questions that science and science institutions need to engage with to successfully move towards a vision for a more diverse and inclusive science.

Man ohh Man ISTG so far the best IISER video i have ever seen (coz IISER ko kon hi janta hai) Great effort guys, gotta say some of the stuff wasn't that funny but still the video was overall funny+wholesome. It really gave me a headstart for my prep again (missed the chance this year by 1 mark) so keep making these videos coz dono ka hi fayeda hai (akhir famous hona bhi toh tum sabka goal hai )
