Sight-seeing, listening to the music of man made machine with a low adrenaline, high dopamine, more time on the road and less time on the jackstands kind of car enthusiast life. Hello, I have set up an MVT on honda dio at .35 as per instruction and I already burned 2 pistons... The timing at idle is 40 + degrees of advance. I noticed in this video you set around 28 at idle and consequently dropping to 5° when revving ( i saw the curve on 49scoot). Can this set up work for Honda dio? How did you set your on Dio? Thanks, Nicola

    • @pitobread
      @pitobread Před měsícem

      your way too much advance for an air cooled engine would be my guess. I would pull some initial timing back so it's around 35 or less and try that. Also dunno how your measuring TDC but the angled spark plug on a dio means it is not able to use a standard micrometer as its not going to be correct.

    • @nickfarri
      @nickfarri Před měsícem

      @@pitobread thank you for your answer. I am using a piaggio Cylinder with spacer, therefore I have a straight spark plug. You mean 35 degrees or less at its peak advance right? I am asking cause MVT curves set at 0.35 starts at about 35 degrees and it peaks at around 43 at around 6k rpm. Also, let's say you set ignition to have 35 max advance it means dropping all the curve by 8 degrees. In this case you will have approximately 10 degrees of advance at 12k rpm. Shouldn't you have around 17 degrees of advance at highest rpm? Thanks a lot for your opinion/explanation.

    • @pitobread
      @pitobread Před měsícem

      @@nickfarri you want 17 degrees at peak power, not RPM, so somewhere at 6-8k probably depending on cylinder. 35 max I would start with as to not melt anything else. You can work up from there.

    • @nickfarri
      @nickfarri Před měsícem

      @@pitobread thank you for clarifyng timing at peak power vs RPM. Actually i have a doubt that what has happened might have been caused from a air leak in the head o ring but I believe, as you have guessed, it was a consequence of the high temperature melting the rubber. AC is not LC... I will set timing mark at TDC with a advance reduction of approx 9.4 degrees which will bring max advance to around 34 and 17 at approx 8.5 k rpm. The new test will be done with a stage 6 mk2 AC for piaggio and exhaust mhr for race only originally born for minarelli vertical and adapted to Honda Dio. It's probably not the best for high revs but that's all I have for now ( looking forward to test a roost pv 70 code rst 470). Thanks again for your help. p.s. 2 I recently found out an other interesting ignition for honda dio ( and many other brands). HPI ignitions, check it out, there are 2 version, racing and with light, both with interesting curves and with the option of a programmable CDI

    Hello I installed the MVT DD 08 on a Honda Dio following instructions and set it at 0,35 mm BTDC. I found out the curve on 49 scoot and I noticed it has a very High advance at low rpm ( over 40°). I used the scooter at a 8k rpm range for moving and I overheated and destroyed the piston and the exhaust on the cylinder. I wish I saw this video before and set the advance at low RPM like you did at around 28°. Considering the curve of MVT with RJ34-6 ( set to go from over 40° at 2k and at 10° around 14k) what happens if I set the 2k rpm at 28° when the engine revs at 14k. Will it go to 0 advance? Sorry in your video you mentioned at high RPM is around 10° ( or the reading after 10k was not clear). Please explain the new curve you obtain when you set 28° advance at 2k rpm thanks a lot

    What was the part # for the stage6 input gearset you used? I've tried a variation on this with malossi 13/44 set for minarelli and malossi hobbit gear and it seems like I'm running into insufficient backlash, hard to turn after getting case together. From what I found, the s6 minarelli set is 13/43 and s6 piaggio set is 13/39, that 13 has gotta be different somewhere between them. Got some measuring to do, but what would your thought be on shortening gear teeth on the lathe to gain backlash? I dig the videos! Thanks man

    • @pitobread
      @pitobread Před 5 měsíci

      Link is in the description, its not minarelli its piaggio. You don't shorten the gear backlash on the OD you do it on the diametral pitch of the gear, which without a gear hob or a wire edm is nearly impossible. One other thing I found is if you use a lockout delete spacer I have ran into side load binding issues. If you delete the gasket you wont have enough clearance for the gear to turn. Had to make some custom shims to get everything nice. And the reason I use the piaggio is it has an outboard mount for an extra bearing, I don't think the little tiny bearings will last long with all that weight hanging off them.

      I dont know the specific answers to the pipes you mentioned but displacement and port timings play a big part in the pipe design. So if you still running the 85cc pipe a pipe designed for the 105 will most likely make more power.

      @pitobread Před 6 měsíci

      Its been a while since I made the video and also a hot minute since I have made a custom pipe, but from memory without watching the whole thing and firing up the spreadsheet the calculator lets you pick a RPM point for HP, so If you want peak power at x rpm you would put the values you want there. I think that the dual angle reflector is where you start getting into widening power. Also pipe building is somewhat still witchcraft even with a calculator so you sometimes make a follow up pipe after with a few trial and error changes.
