    What specialist works with woman with catamenial epilepsy? I would like to find out if I am positive with it since I was diagnosed by my neurologist that I had nothing wrong with brain. I started at the age of 17, it stopped for a couple of years then I got it next in 2002, I had my daughter in 2008 and my second kid in 20011. In 2012 I went through another episode and spent 5 months at the hospital. After being released with new meds I started having issues with bad side effects and I ended up stopping the medication. I have been dealing with seizures once a month since 2014. Thank you I appreciate your time

    The majority of my seizures occur at the moment I go into deep sleep. I had some seizures during the day, but most occur in my sleep. I am currently off prescriptionsn and have maybe three or four per year. Where I am today compared to where I was in my twenties is a big difference considering I was having four or more seizures per week to just a few per year. My biggest problem today is mood swings and anxiety.

Seizures began after Covid vaccines. This is a nightmare. My life is destroyed. I can’t sleep. They won’t give me anything to sleep. Why ? Ugh. These seizures are just horrible. Weed and gabapentin saved my life. Gabapentin has some side effects, but being able to take a few before sleep helps big time, I barely get 6 hours of sleep every day. Today was about 4. I wake up with fight or flight just about every day. Gabapentin levels out my anxiety , and nerves from shaking involunatry from brain fog misfires from not sleeping well. I had a few near death experiences waking up in ambalances from being in a gran mal seizure in my CAR! collapsing at walmart , and Home depot twice! THANK GOD I NEVER FELL ON MY HEAD, witnesses keep saying I fall bc I KNOW I am about to get one, so I just stop where I am and just go down. And then usualy 20 mins later I wake up with the same people in the amb. They know me by name. Last one I had was when I had covid. I had a bad fever for 24 hours, and couldnt eat, and couldnt hold up water. So I had back to back ones. My tounge was so swollen, and amnesia kicked in for 2 days. I was a totally different consciousness. So, i am a pot head I dont care.

I'm pretty up set because I'm afraid if someone mails it to me they will be in trouble. I already said, I don't care if I get in trouble, they better put me in jail....!! When I first worked for a big company, they had a Personnel department. They were about what is good for the employee. They changed the name to human resources. Look up the definition of a resource. It's scary. Because resources are things that can be used up and replaced. Like if you own land with trees on it. You could cut the trees and sell them, and that depletes the value of the land because less resources. Even though in learning taxes we were told that land itself never depreciates.

    I have had epilepsy since the age of 17!in high school and at that time I was at the top of my class. I was NEVER invited to any party or have any friends. I had planned on becoming an electrical engineer. I went to one of the top engineering colleges in the country but depression took over. I received assistance from the ADA and once I dropped out depression played more of a role in my life than seizures had. My driver’s license was taken away from me but public transportation became more of a benefit than the former because it cost less. I then gained a full time job which I held for over 20 years. I learned to live on my own as a loner and sustain myself. The most difficult thing is the cost of healthcare. With physicians fees, tests, medications, surgical procedures ( VNS) . The deductibles are extremely expensive. My seizures may be pretty much under control however depressive lifestyle due to a lack of friendships and fear of dementia both play a major factor in life now that I am in my mid 50’s.

      @@AlishaRivera If you’re in an urban area and have access to public transportation then that can be a plus to get a job. And if you have the Department of Rehabilitation Services ( DORS) you have an even better chance at getting a free education ( DORS helped me out somewhat but I did not take full advantage of it because of the state that I was in.). And the Epilepsy Foundation is a plus also for they will help you with both and getting a job. Take adavange of all what you can get. I didn’t and I spiraled downward both neurologically but mostly psychologically.

    This is an excellent presentation of seizures, especially PNES. After 22 years, I still do not know what my son has. He seems to have seizures that fit into the PNES, but Dr's want to peg him with epilepsy after having normal EEG's for 22 years. The Washington DC area has very few sources of help. If we can come see you or anyone knows anyone please let me know. We are desperate for help.

  • @davidr4523
    @davidr4523 Před 2 lety

    Very good presentation. There is this false belief that if you can control your seizures through medication then every is okay. Listening to Dr. DeMarco the side effects of the anti-seizure medication over a lifetime does have negative consequences. Also if the seizure still occur, even in on an very infrequent basis, that is another psychological issue that the person to overcome. Surgery may be the best solution to get off the medication and to eliminate seizures.
