What is a master coach?
There are a lot of good hockey coaches around, but few are masters. Being a master coach is more than knowing the material, it is about knowing who you are teaching and how to get the best out of them.

    Really old video, but thought I'd ask anyhow. My son says his back starts to hurt after games. Would this be caused by not enough knee bend and him hinging his hips too much?

    • @nicktarnowski7069
      @nicktarnowski7069 Před 8 měsíci

      That would cause a bit of back pain yes. But if your son is new to skating, he's probably using a lot of muscles he usually doesn't. In time his body will get stronger and the new muscles will adapt. Even after taking a 5-6 month break, my muscles are still unusually sore after getting back on the ice

    The crazy thing is nobody ever taught me how to do this and I didn’t even know what it was. I just naturally started doing this one day and somebody on my team pointed it out asking wtf I was doing. Someone on one of my other teams just this past weekend pointed out another thing I do. They said I point my feet straight in a line when I’m protecting the puck and using the front one to angle my directions. I was like wtf.

    I don’t mean to complain but you and iTrain hockey……. Is it me that thinks wearing track suits makes these drills 50-70% easier when you’re not in full gear? I’d love for once to see a coach wear full gear do these drills with same level of ankle mobility lol as demonstrated in this video. Basically it’s impossible unless you’re a Pro. Or maybe kids/people doing drills should wear track suits and not lace up the top two eyelets like you did in this video. Did you know Daryl Evans doesn’t even USE LACES in his skates when he teaches power skating lol. Basically- the full track suit is like totally cheating

  • @WritingFighter
    @WritingFighter Před 3 lety

    How do you get to the inside edge of the skate blade without ankle rocking or knocking knees (bending knees inward)? Also extreme balancing issues just standing without leaning in on blades, inside or out for stability (which is obviously bad).

      In a five on five situations, you will not have much time when you get the puck. Focus on moving laterally, and recognizing when a lane opens up. Also, changing the angle of your shot release, by pulling the puck in when shooting, will help you get the shot through an approaching forward.

      I realize your comment was a year ago but I highly recommend you have someone video your shifts. Make sure they get most of the ice so you can see what you are doing when you don't have the puck in addition to when you have the puck. The situation you describe will have many variables so responding to it with ideas or suggestions will be much less effective.
