Me, "as a Vietnamese", born and raised, I find this a masterpiece. I understand every single word in the song (I'm from the North of Vietnam btw and the song was sung in a Southern accent). Some people claim the song's lyrics are silly and lack meaning due to the use of google translate, like seriously??? Just because it wasn't translated literally means it was pulled from google translate? Tell me, from which site did they get the translation of 'back in the nineties' to 'năm chín mươi mấy' or 'I'm just trying to make you understand' to 'tôi muốn hát cho bà con hiểu là'? Oh, and there's a guy in the comment section striving to gift us the 'accurate Vietnamese version' of the song, holy sht. They intended to do the song like that to be humorous. If you're not vibing with the song's humor, how do you even cope with the puns and jokes in this series, or any other comedy series?

As a Vietnamese, after trying to listen to this song many times, I can say that this is translated by real people, not some translating services. They did translate it badly on some parts, but I think they did it on purpose (wordplay between English and Vietnamese to make it both funny and sad at the same time). The singer's accent is hard to hear even for native Vietnamese speaker, but I noticed emotions in his voice. The emotions when you get lost emotionally.

The lyrics are silly and meaningless due to using google translate from English to Vietnamese and the melody and lyrics do not mix together. But these are also the intentions of the film producer. Because the content of this episode is about a Vietnamese-American girl who doesn't know Vietnamese when she returns to visit her homeland for the first time. im vietnamese, im understand what they say in the song and i think i they did the lyrics sounds like you put it on google translate for diane nguyen, this episode she went to vietnam and thought she would reconnect to her roots but she just can't.
