The Vocal Consort
Singapore

Established as one of Singapore's premier choral group, our members range from students to working professionals who come together to share their passion for choral singing, under the direction of accomplished local conductor Professor Nelson Kwei.
Since our inception in 2001, we have been involved in a number of collaborations with national arts groups such as the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, and national events such as the Singapore Arts Festival. We also remain active during the Christmas period and can be seen carolling at various prominent locations in Singapore, such as Concorde Hotel, Esplanade, and Singapore Resort & Spa Sentosa.
As of now, our choir is at a strength of 100 strong members. As of today, we have branched out to form a male chorus (Coro di Signori), female chorus (Coro Delle Donne), youth chorus (National Youth Choir of Singapore), and a chamber choir (The Chamber Chorus).

The Vocal Consort Presents: WHA-DA-YA-GET?
Chili Con Carne was originally written for renowned Swedish vocal ensemble The Real Group, of which Edenroth was a founding member. Today, it remains a classic in the contemporary a cappella repertoire and is sung by many groups all over the world. Despite the title, the song’s lyrics are unrelated to the Mexican spicy stew - it instead consists of a playful take on the recipe and scat singing. In this piece, listen out for voices mimicking the sounds of instruments and imitating rhythmic patterns, vocal jazz techniques, and creative vocal effects.
Take some ripe and fresh tomatoes, put them in a bowl with oil.
Add the onions, strong and tasty, on the stove you let it boil.
Choose the finest meat you get from cow or pig, it doesn’t matter.
Beans and jalopeño peppers, necessary is to this.
But don’t forget the Mexican spices, the spices, the heart of the art of the cooking. Oh no!
Don’t forget the Mexican spices, without them you won’t get the flavor of sunshine.

Excellent performance in many ways. Congratulations on getting the 'Dilemma Chorus' right - that defeats many companies. However, some of your tempi are woefully slow, some start at a good pace and then seem to be pulled back by the singers which is a pity. Also, did you really need to tell the story before the performance? The diction is generally very good and I'm sure your audience would have been more than able to follow the story, even without those awful surtitles. Overall, however, an excellent performance.

This is a very good performance. Great pitch, attention to consonants and vowels is exemplary. Amazing what can be done with five voices, more effective than many large ensembles. Clearly high level musicianship here. Congratulations!
