    How could one decide the position of the horizontal unity line on the graph?

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před 11 dny

      By averaging all your data out is one way. Another way is listening to your room for resonant frequencies and cancellation dips, with that norms will develop. Also, resonant frequencies tend to work in multiples, so if 90 Hz is particularly loud, chances are 180 Hz and 360 Hz (etc.) will also have similar boosts. Overall, many of the frequencies will be within a few db of what unity is, so it’s more or less and educated guess based upon all of the above. Hope this helps!! Thanks for your question!

    i would not recommend using logic in the first place. Reaper is a far more versatile Tool with capabilities that logic isnt even dreaming of.. the workflow is impressive! i would say by a high factor more stable and fluid.. further it handles big projects in a much much better ways. It has customizable actions (literally 1000s of useful things. The ideal tool for creativity and great to show projects to clients. The downside: you have to learn and customize it. Reaper also beats Cubase in nearly any aspect! if you own already good 3rd party plugs you could just moove over.. i found so many missfunctions and stupudly aarranged workflows in logic so i looked for a solution. All my projects now are flowing in a much better, faster and creative way. Logic as for now is pretty outdated. I think part of the problem is, people first need to be trained in what sonic excellence is in recordings. The newer generation has been spoon-fed over-modulated and loudness-saturated music, and that has become their norm. Listen to an Earth Wind and Fire song like 'September' and then you get to hear how amazing those engineers were back in the day to get a sonic clarity you can touch. Anyway, thanks for weighing in!

      Yeah - I know right? I am kinda stubborn that way - I would rather play the whole song and get it right than chop it up into little pieces. It's the fun part of why I do this. I think you play (ed) in a band. With PC you have to feel what a bass player does, what a drummer does etc. The same rec in two minutes results fake and, over all, not musical. Write music! It's the best part! Or do the BB King way: play with others who write music and improvise.

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Ha! Yeah - I hear you, I have written well over 10k pieces of music, many of them have all the feel and intention and musicality you're talking about. This is a shredder piece meant to be over the top, and the illustration of playing for hours was a gaffe. If this were a blues piece or a yacht rock piece then I'd have all the feel and musicality you're talking about (although when I was in PC, there was a song 'Drums In The Night' where Dave & I traded bass and guitar, and we did a flamenco break down in the song that did shred - then I did a subsequent shred on electric to finish the song - people loved it!). Truth is, my musical roots are more 70's to hard progressive music, classical (which can definitely shred), Zappa, Queen, all sorts of heavy metal, and way out there avant garde music. The weirder and more complex it is, the more I like it. I am also a big fan of music from all over the world that can be very unique and rhythmic. So, hopefully that gives you some insight on where I am coming from! Thanks for commenting!!

    I’m from for a trombone slide a major 6th up (the slide as a whole lasts about an 1/8 note at medium tempo.) Haven’t fiddled long enough I suspect. Will just getting the right automation curve on the pitch be the major factor for authenticity on the slide? BTW, I’m doubling - two trombones playing the same note for this melody, BTW.

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Thanks for your comment - it really is a trial and error thing. You might want to try a mono bone with the pitch bend set at 2, then play the fifth then slide up to the 6th using the pitch bend wheel. I just tried it, it kinda works where you get the feel of the slide without getting the entire slide up. I tried setting the pitch wheel at 9 but then the sample gets wonky. Since you are using multiple bones, you can try doing one with the setting I recommended, then another where the pitch bend is set to 4 and you play the 4th and pitch bend up to the 6th. Nothing really compares to the real thing, but maybe this will help?

    • @JohnnyHands
      @JohnnyHands Před měsícem

      @@GGabrielMusic Thanks! I'll get it a try. Those different combinations between the two bones will certainly give each an individual character. I suppose if I could find a recording of a trombone sliding up a major sixth, I could import it into Logic just for listening - and slow it way down to get a feel for the sonic shape of the half-parabola needed for an authentic automation curve :-)

Been struggling to really put all of this in a box for a few years now and you have presented this complex system from 30 thousand feet so that we can see the big picture. Thank you so much. Very helpful.

      Thank you so much, that makes my day. That has always been the desire for me in starting this channel, is to help people see more clearly through the endless options that Logic offers, but in a more professional way - not the pro-sumer way Logic leads people to. I appreciate the feedback and will be posting many more videos soon. All the best!!

    Thanks dude! But how to save all of this for paste in other projects?

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Very simple: Open Logic Library, Select the track stack, in the footer of the Library area, you'll see a SAVE button. Just name save that stack and you can pull it up in the Library anytime you want. If you don't like stacks (like me) you can still save it that way and then you bring it into a new session, just right-click the track and flatten it. If you're using my T.A.B.S. format and want to delete that AUX it brings in, you can do that easily in the Environment. Hope this helps!! Thanks for reaching out!

    Hi George, thank you for this cool way of creating realistic string-sounds ! I almost immediately copied your way to handle in my Logic-daw, very inspiring. Somewhere at the end of your tutorial you say that you lead al the 9 string-instruments through your 'synth-bus'. I don't know how to achieve that, actually I don't understand how to route it in that way. After that comes your next advice to put it all together in a 'summing-track'. That I understand a lot better. My question : Do the 'synth-bus' and the 'summing-track'-procedure in the end have the same result ? At the 'summing-track' you can ad compression, eq, sample-delay etc...as well. If I select the 'summing-track' I can play al the nine tracks on my keyboard-controller. I don't understand the difference. Maybe some other viewers can help me explaining it. Thanx in advance ! Cheers from the Amsterdam, Holland.

      Thanks for reaching out. Great question. A summing track creates its own bus (or actually aux) which yes, functions like a bus. I do not use summing stacks to be honest and that is because I have a specific AutoLoad that organizes all of my tracks, busses, aux's in various different windows. (See my AutoLoad 7 part series). The AutoLoad is based on my T.A.B.S. concept (See the 2 part T.A.B.S. series) - If you look at those two series, this will all make a lot more sense. When I want to play multiple instruments together, I just select them all and play them, I don't stack them. I like the more classic tried and true way of using busses and auxes and making a CLEAN session that is always the same format - much like if you were using a console, and gear in a studio. This provides the most consistent workflow and most closely emulates the true record-making studio environment. Watch those series and get back to me if you still have further questions. Thanks so much for reaching out!! Let me know how it goes!

    This is great if you know what you're doing, but for most of us mere mortals who are not sure what is going to make something sound better, whether it's a compressor or an EQ, it's just watching someone messing around with a track!

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Yeah - such is the composer / engineering life. Mess with stuff until it sounds good, learn by your mistakes, try again, fail again, learn by your mistakes, repeat... There is a time however when everything just clicks and you level up. But it is like those annoying apps when you keep leveling up, but there is no end to the levels...😂

    Good video, but the "Custom EQ" button enables you to make changes to the suggested EQ - not a bypass.

    Wanna go quick and easy? MA - why not? Pretty good results most of the time. Nice for demos and quick takes. Wanna sound better and make a release? Use multipressor, EQ, limiter, stereo spread, exciter, matching EQ, etc...

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      I just end up saving a channel strip setting on my stereo out that has my generic mastering chain that can work for quick mixes and demos. In the end, I think that is still faster and yields better results than MA. Maybe I'm old school, but I just want to be able to make the small adjustments on the individual aspects of the chain. I've never been a huge fan of the one-knob plugs that will 'make your mix sound better' LOL.... Thanks for commenting!!

    • @silvansky
      @silvansky Před měsícem

      Hmm, gonna try out the strip settings way. Most of the time all I need from quick mastering is multipressor with "smile" settings, simple or matching EQ and a limiter. But I also use spread feature of MA sometimes. Not sure if it is similar to Stereo Spread plugin.

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Channel strip setting is the way to go for quick multi-plug chains - I have about a half dozen or so mastering chains for different situations. Also, be careful of using any kind of ‘spread’ plugin - it can increase the chance of phasing and mix imbalance.

    Marquee tool is awesome, I use it very often. Select a region, cmd+c to copy. Or drag while holding an option key to copy it to another place. Very useful. Also drag without an option key to move a region around.

    • @GGabrielMusic
      @GGabrielMusic Před měsícem

      Yeah - marquee has its pros for sure, but I find myself more at odds with it than loving its workflow. At the end of the day, users just have do what works best for their workflow. Thanks for weighing in!
