Virginia Tech students track how seeds travel in the Southern Appalachians
Abir Jain, a Ph.D. student in the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech, is conducting a community-wide study of seed dispersal of forest plants by animals. Jain and a team of both faculty and undergraduate researchers are marking certain species of fruiting plants in the region and monitoring them with trail cameras to determine which animals are responsible for dispersing their seeds.

Steve McLellan's respect for old wood led him to an idea to further continue the story with pieces of the historic Merry Oak tree. The local woodworker has spent the last several months fashioning the remnants of the revered tree into a large table, in hopes that it can connect future generations with a piece of history.

What the video doesn't say is that Kay accomplished all this after retiring from a solid career in chemistry! Kay also competed in the first amateur Van Cliburn competition. Such a sweet person, too.

There's a giant memorial at the center of campus for the people who died and each year on April 16th there's tons of events related to it.

Allow me to correct the Cadets on the beginning history of Skipper. Skipper was originally conceived by retired U.S. Army Captain Homer Hickam a to have a response to Virginia Military Institute's "where's your cannon" way back in 1963!
May we please see the processioin of the graduates into the stadium? Not much chance of seeing them during the ceremony itself.
I have a former student receiving her degree today and had hoped to see her march in but there just aren't enough cameras to capture all 5,485 undergrads in addition to DVM grads. I am sure the university did all it could to show as much of the processional as it could. I feel fortunate that I was able to see the live stream. Congratulations Kayla!
A great deal of the life stream was an add for the alumni association. They could have showed everyone walking in.
