Best advice is to keep close key phrases like 'to an extent', 'to a degree' etc. Theories are likely to apply in some ways, but not in others. Simply measure the extent to which they do/don't. Won't always be a 50/50 split, might be more 80/20, but always depends on the theory and text in question. Also, have the confidence to state that a particular theory might not be that useful, but if you do so, clearly explain WHY, and also worth suggesting a theory or theories that offer a better fit (without ignoring the theory in the question - always answer the question explicitly). Can take various forms. Past examples include: To what extent is TV a global industry? (2019); Discuss how TV products are significantly influenced by the context in which they are produced. (2020). Evaluate Steve Neale's theory of genre. (2021) Explain Jenkins' theory of fandom in relation to PB & Explore how representations position audiences in The Bridge (22), How useful are structuralist theories in exploring TV products? (2023). Sorry for confusion. Your teacher is correct - it won't come up as a question in the sense that you will be explicitly be asked to evaluate the theory in relation the The Bridge. I posted this as an an explainer of the theory that I used with my own class more than anything. Nothing to stop you referring to the theory in relation to the Bridge - but your teacher is right, if it's named in a question on this section it will be a 15 marker about Peaky Blinders. Sorry for freaking you out!

I would aim for 4 sides if you can - 2 per text. All depends on size of handwriting of course, and it is possible to take a less is more approach as long as your response is really focused and concise. Good luck!

Pretty straightforward: allocate 50 mins per section. 5 mins planning time, 45 minutes writing on the 30 markers, 25 minutes per piece on the 15 markers, approx 5 minutes planning time on each (but realistically will only need a couple of minutes planning). Good luck!

A range of things: historical can mean when it was made, the social and cultural context means when it was made, but you also need to take into account things like attitudes to gender at the time. Industry context means the production background, what kind of company made it and what were the issues in the industry when it was made, this also overlaps with the economic context, which essentially means anything to do with money. What did it cost? What were the financial issues affecting the industry that might have had an impact on the text? Hope that all helps!

@@YouWolves It didn't come up, we had a 30 marker on comparison of formation to an unseen music video (beautiful by Christina Aguilera), 15 marker on presenting viewpoints and ideologies to an audience for an unseen daly mirror front cover, economic factors for independent films for I, Daniel Blake, maintaining global audiences for podcast/radio, marketing/advertisement for black panther. I think that's pretty much the paper we had? Surprised Formation came up as it was heavily on it last year too but oh well!

Difficult to quantify without seeing the texts. Two of each as a benchmark, but texts could mean it's weighted more in one direction than another. As long as you avoid seeing them as separate texts, and don't just have a single comparison as you pivot from one text to the other, you'll be fine. Good luck!

Short of time, sorry, but here's a few thoughts. Media Language question: start with concise overview - what's the text doing (Purpose) and for who (Audience)? Then get into the details, working through all relevant aspects of media language (always keeping the specific focus of the question in mind). Representation: brief intro yoking the two texts together in relation to the focus indentified in the question. Clear comparisons - as many as you can muster. Could go text to text in terms of similarities and then text to text in terms of differences - always depends on the question. Industry - mostly just a demonstration of knowledge - but on the longer questions, start big (overview) then get small (details that support your arguments). Same for the Audience questions, really. Hope that's of some use. Good luck!

hi i can help with that :) section a: 15 mark - intro, 4-5 PEELs, conclusion, 30 mark - intro, 3-4 PEELs per product (essentially 3-4 comparisons) section b: 8 mark - 2 PEELs, no intro or conclusion, 10 mark - 3 PEELs, no intro or conclusion, 12 mark - 3-4 PEELs, *brief* intro and conclusion, 15 mark - 4-5 PEELs, intro and conclusion this was from advice from teachers and what i personally do, hope this helps !
