Hey Mr. Handgrenade, Which A&A version would you recommend? 1940 Europe 2nd or Anniversary?
Thanks for the lesson, I just played my first global this week and was somewhat overwhelmed by the variables. My opponent was nice enough to point out bonuses I was not focusing on. I took allies because I figured Axis needed to have a plan while I was more likely to survive by reacting, we played through turn 6 and nobody actually lost, but I think my Russia was on borrowed time. G4 and I did my best orderly retreat, my England I was too timid, skipping the full Toronto raid, I sunk 2 small Italian boats and my boats all left the Mediterranean (foolishly unaware of the bonus $), they protected the Indian ocean off and on as the Japanese leviathan fleet came and went. Italy was well over $40 turns 5&6, I think my Russia was toast by turn 9 or 10 as my USA built equally in both oceans. My last 2 turns (5&6) saw England and USA both attacking and taking Territories in France but I could see it was temporary and instead I needed to retake Gibraltar and Morocco to push Italy back to the $20 something income. My opponent was in statistical analysis (retired) and could well calculate probabilities without hesitation. I'm going to set it up and try a solo, I need a better allied plan, I didn't temp him to sealion, I seen a video on that, building mostly ground in England and saving $6 incase the 10 German transports appeared.
What are those American cities doing all over your board? Fortress America f'yeah! 🤣
@ 11:04 Q, Battleship, cruiser, destroyer, ..transport ??? Any enemy surface warship making a hostile sea zone. I heard transport mentioned right there
I like to try Germany vs. France without the intention of taking it, to allow Italy capturing France. Germany has nearly enough starting units to take UK or Leningrad even if UK or Leningrad puts more than 12-20 infantry on. Germany needs close to 16 transports for its starting units plus some navy defense. Germany should have enough starting ships and planes to take the waters; dont use any German planes in France. If Germany holds money round one, Germany will have enough money to build a large navy all at once. Germany has to keep their planes positioned to attack either Leningrad, UK, or perhaps participate in the sea. Dont be afraid to loose some planes in the land battle, its more important to actually land. First move, let Italy take France. Itll give Italy more money for the capture + steady income. That extra money that can be used to expand. It will make the difference. I think of Germany as capital hunter that is willing to destroy itself because Italy is defending the home by expanding and securing the south resources. In theory, Germany will have lost most of its starting pieces and first purchase trying to land on UK or Leningrad. After Germany's first major attack, it will seem that only Italy is on the board. Germany will have destroyed a lot of its starting units in the amphibious and Italy will keep everything secure until Germany can build using captured money. Germany into France battle round one: (I think the math is right for this example but in general this is how how I calculate) 8 units @ 1/6 = 1.33 expected hit 3 units @ 3/6 = 1.5 expected hit 2.8 expected hit total, I generally round down because I dont want to build luck here into the strategy France starts with 7 units @ 2/6 1 tank @ 3/6 1 fighter @ 4/6 Expected hit is 3.496 or I tend to round up to 4; I tend to build luck here into the strategy. >> Continued fighting Germany into France and the 3 tanks still do 1.5 expected hit. After loosing four units, there are Four @ 1/6 = .66 2.1 total. Round to 2 France would probably loose a AAA gun and have due to another loss, there are now Six @ 2/6 = 2 tank = .5 Fighter = .66 3.1 and it would be extremely lucky to get 4. >> Run this again. But really the idea is for Germany to weaken France enough that Italy can take it. ___ Let the German player focus clearing the waters and repositioning everything to purchase 12-16 transports and some defensive navy to land everything they start with into either UK or Leningrad.
Hi GHG, What happens to Russian controlled North Persia and British controlled South Persia when Russia and Britain go to war?
Nothing happens to them. Both countries continue to possess those territories.
@@primroselane1 Do North- and South Persia remain controlled or do they align to Russia and Britain?
@@dirkvanmourik871 They are aligned.
@@primroselane1 Okay, thanks for the clarification.
Nice. I am going to try to mount magnets just below the flight deck from the bottom and see if it works.
how the hell does that fighter from the UK reach that sea zone lmao there's no way it can. and if it does, it would have to fly over AA
where does one get a map of that size
Hey General hello from Vernon BC. So I see your reviewing the Global 36 expansion sets. I have a offer for you. How would you like to create your own game based on Global 36 ?? I have bought Global 36 & I am now in the proccess of getting all my units toghther & painted. So I have spent about 4-5 grand on units & the game. Hard to explain what I have in mind in regards to changes. Some of the highlights are diffrent units & experimental ones. Game cards. Basically I hate static play. I want the game to play out diffrent each time if possible. Not just to be a mathmatical equation. So if your intrested in creating something a little radical & new give me a shout. And we can discuss more. If your ever up for a game I have a place to play & stay. Located in Vernon. Thanks
Listen to the song "Paschendale" from "Iron Maiden" to get the right mood...
Nice video intro! Pretty cool little animation!
Wait, wait, wait!! I thought all this time (I've played 15-20 times) that a DD allowed any number planes to hit subs. They have to be paired 1:1?
great job on all
A Pearl Harbor attack hurts America more then you think... following GHG's recommendation, Honolulu got taken on turn 3, followed by Sydney on turn 6.
Thank you for your great videos! It made A&A a lot more fun for me (and not always for my opponents 😂). What do you think about the idea to put 2 Aircraft-Carriers instead of the Air-Bases there? Ofc there are less planes in the battle, but the carriers can soke up hits. Anyway, in your scenario it's still not making any difference because of the British planes in Gibraltar.
Love the random events mechanic of 1914!
I live amongst the Anzacs. Thanks for the video mate.
This strategy in my opinion is absolutely ingenious. The only thing I've changed about it is that it prioritizes the Pacific far more and it doesn't build any battleships at all.
Hi. Can you conduct convoy operations against powers that you are NOT at war with? If you do a convoy attack against the UK Pacific for example, it seems that would not trigger war with the UK or others. Is this a correct interpretation ? In WW2, convoys were attacked before their countries were at war. Also, convoy calculations are made in collect income phase, not the combat phase. Thanks very much. Steve
Do you know anything about the new global war 1985 game
I haven't played it but I know the designer and have talked to him about it a bit while he was developing it.
i love your videos man! keep it up!
Need another game with you soon bud!
Why the turn order is divided east west but not intermingled? Like Russia, NATO, Caliphate, Pacific, US, China?
I dont like all the unit have the same stats. Have you play tested different factions with different unit strength?
Hi General, love your vids. I grew up in prince george! The smell of pulp mills is still in my blood! Lol.. are there closer sources for the pieces and other items HBC offers? Out of Canada? Shipping on a large vinyl map is crazy. Keep up the awesome vids!
Unfortunately there isn't anything like that around here. HBG is the only place you can get the Global War maps too.
Are there any thoughts on balance? After a few games it feels like the Allies have an advantage. The games the centrals have won had everythinggo right for them at the end, but playing a long game just to try and get lucky at the end, or basically throwing the game with high risk/reward move early feels not fun. Anyways I'm sure I could have it all wrong. Any thoughts?
We haven't found the game to be out of balance yet. That could change if someone develops a strategy for 1 side or the other that is unbeatable. We will address it if that happens. I've seen the Central Powers will lots of games.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. That's good to hear. We really like this game. Especially the random events aspect. @@primroselane1
Is this game balanced?? Playing Global 1940 with only 2 people makes it hard for the Axis.
Hello, are heavy machine gunners going to be an actual unit? Or just a cool piece?
A regular infantry represents about 50,000 troops. They have different types of weapons including a number of heavy machine guns. It's just a cool sculpt.
Will there be a expansion for the wars that happened immediately after ww1 like the Turkish war of independence and the communist hungry wars with its neighbors
There is an Interwar game in the works which would include many smaller conflicts. I'm not working on it so I don't know if those are part of it.
You could also just have different colour bases for the infantry (default colour base = 1, green base = 3, red base = 5, and so on.)
Awesome look, what if the trench fighter was 5 and the machine gun 10? Guarantees only needing 1 pack of each per nation just with 75 total unit count
There are trench fighters already in the game.
Your painted and decaled units are looking great GHG!
Personally, I hate not having all my units chipped up and in neat large stacks.
Beautiful sculpts and good idea for variation.
Hi GHG, Are submarines that are allocated to Convoy raiding in their turn, allowed to intercept enemy ships in the enemies turn, or are they fixed on Convoy raiding only?
Hi GHG, Does sending a ship via lend-lease, require the use of a lend-lease path through seazones or is a lend-lease path through landzones only, also allowed?
Hi GHG, so militia can only be placed in home country and can only move within home country. Outside home country militia can't be placed, but colonial infantry instead? Both can be upgraded to regular infantry. Is it allowed to place infantry class or cavalry via a factory in home country or is this only allowed via manpower value?
That is correct about the militia and colonial infantry. You need a manpower icon for cavalry and camels. Factories have nothing to do with them.
@@primroselane1 So it's not allowed to use a factory to place (extra) infantry class units, cavalry or camel units? Only Manpower value determines the amount of these units that can be placed?
@@primroselane1 Are Colonial Infantry units allowed to move to and in home country? Can they be shipped by transport or Zeppelin?
Hi GHG. Not particularly a question about strategic bombing, but hopefully you can answer here. When zeppelins or balloons are the only air units for one side in a battle and the enemy has at least 1 fighter on dogfighting in the battle, are all zeppelins or balloons (automatically) destroyed by the fighter?
The fighter can auto-kill a balloon if it chooses and is capable of dogfighting. It can't do something else in the same round it has to choose only 1 action. With an airship you would be using interception so the fighter has to be capable of that choice (1917 fighter or later).
@@primroselane1 Is auto-kill for a fighter on a balloon 1 on 1 or can the fighter auto-kill all balloons in a battle?
Is there a way to organize ABDA Command?
Where do you get your flying stands?
bit late to the convo, but ill be trying this in my next game
Tried it out myself in a test run... spoiler alert: it's not optimal. What's sad is that it couldn't even stop Germany from taking Egypt either.
Thanks for the masterclass GHG! Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the best way to defend a trench line is a combination of artillery (paired with a fighter on observation) for first strike and massive amounts of militia for casualties. Besides the needed infantry to form a trench line, depending on technology and attacking units?
Militia defends at 2. Infantry defends at 6. Each Infantry costs only 1 IPP more. It's nice to have a few extra Militia to lose for casualties but I think you're still better off buying Infantry where you can. Trench Fighters are a much better purchase than Militia if you can because of the First Strike and Target Selection (same cost). Balloons will also observe Artillery the same as Fighters so either will do for boosting Artillery.
@@primroselane1 Thanks for the explanation and lesson. Certainly something to take into consideration.
I never played Italy 🇮🇹
The British did have Indian troops fighting on the western front
😳For the last year i played this game like 20 times tinking you can use factory capacaty to build infantry class 😅 turns out that was a haouse rule all this time witout me knowing it
brilliant!
global is by far the best
i am soo into this game
Another great video as always! I definitely hope there may be one in the future covering naval warfare and maneuvering, with a focus on not only ships but also how to use other units at sea (such as sea planes, naval infantry, etc). There is so much material that it could either be one long video, or easily be divided into a two parter (perhaps by Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, without forgetting the Mediterranean sea of course!).
I was already thinking about doing some. I will probably start off with the North Atlantic and the conflict between the British and German navies. It will probably be right after I do the Western Front video.
Looking forward to it!
