    Which model Stryker do you have and size? I had the pro 420 with the new 30hp mercury. It was almost too fast with only two people on board but was awesome having the power when I went on a couple day trip with 3 guys on board and fully loaded with gear. I really liked the boat but decided wasn’t going to fold it up so I bought a 4.6 metre Highfield rib.

    • @cedarcabinsociety
      @cedarcabinsociety Před 3 dny

      Thanks for watching! I have a Stryker LX420 and it’s 14ft in length. I had a 6HP merc on it in this video but I’ve since upgraded to a 20HP electric start. It’s a rocket ship with a 20 on it, so a 30 must have been real fun to rip around in. I know exactly what you mean about folding it up. 😅 The highfields are a really great bit kit too. I’d love to try one of them at some point.

  • @poopmullet
    @poopmullet Před 4 dny

    Hey there as a fellow Stryker mission specialist let me hip you to an essential piece of kit. The Anchor Buddy. No more wading/ swimming out to get the boat. Also I highly recommend running up the Harrison River from Kilby into the Harrison lake to Rainbow Falls. Very scenic adventure for filming. Cheers.

  • @jo_ey

    Is this set up lighter than a tent? Looks fun to do actually. And you can ditch the tarp if there’s no rain.

    • @cedarcabinsociety
      @cedarcabinsociety Před 3 dny

      It definitely can be but it mostly depends on the weight of the tarp being used. The bivy bag weighs ~500g, so if you can keep the weight of the tarp down it’ll come in under 1kg total. I still use lightweight tents more than this setup but that’s mostly because my dog likes to sleep inside the tent with me 😂

    I am new to fishing. And I am planning to go to capilano river to try coho fishing this weekend. I have some questions! Is this currently a good season to do coho fishing? What is the best time of the day? And any recommendations for spots in the river?

    • @cedarcabinsociety
      @cedarcabinsociety Před 10 dny

      Thanks for watching! I haven’t had chance to fish the capilano yet this year, so I can’t say if it’s a good season or not unfortunately. I fished it at first light last year and had some success, so I’d try that. For spots, I’d start just below the hatchery at cable pool. Always check the river level before you go though, as capilano is dam controlled and the river can rise unexpectedly.

    Cable pool be doing that, it holds some big fish. But they are extremely picky. So it’s a hit or miss. Further down river at the mouth of the capilano where the river spills into the ocean. I find it much better. I got a 13 pound coho. Awesome video by the way 👍🏼

      Hey - thanks for watching! I really love my paddleski as a solo boat for calm waters/lakes, as I think this is where it performs at its best. Unfortunately, since I purchased it, my needs have changed a lot and I now need more space to bring my dog, gf and gear along on adventures. I also like to salmon fish locally using heavier down-riggers that the paddleski can’t support, so having a more stable and rugged boat that handles ocean swell better gives me more peace of mind. Regarding the paddling experience, it’s doable for short distances (<5km) but personally I wouldn’t use it without an outboard or trolling motor, as it can be quite challenging to handle when the wind kicks up. I think it works best with a combo of both to cover distance on the motor and get in shallow using the paddle.

    Hey Chris! Thanks for sharing! I fish for bass with my Paddleski 437. I haven't been out yet this year, our bass season doesn't start until the end of June. My boat is a 2022 model with a 6HP Suzuki. I had it out in 6-7 waves by accident last year and it performed like a champ. I came out of some secluded channels and the wind had picked up out on the big water. I noticed you carry a lot of gear as I do. Just a little suggestion to help keep paddles, boat hooks etc out of the way - I bought a set of "paddle keepers" on Amazon for a standard inflatable kayak. I have the Explorer 380 as well. They're basically a velcro strap with a snap fastener on one end. String a safety line down the side of your boat, attach the paddle keepers and you can hang any of your paddles etc outboard where you won't be tripping over them. They work great and they're not expensive. I hope that helps solve some space issues. 🛶🛶

      Hey Eric! Thanks so much for watching and for reaching out. It’s great to meet another paddleski owner! I still haven’t come across anyone up here in BC yet. Thanks for the recommendation about the paddle keepers. I’ll definitely have a look into those because space is certainly at a premium right now 😅 I’m still trying to find a way to fit my dog (Murphy) on it too for quick overnight trips but that’s still a work in progress. I’m hoping to get back out on it shortly to give it another crack. Tight lines for bass season! Cheers, Chris

    Are you using a manual down rigger? What type is it? Also, does it work well with the paddle ski? I m debating if i should get one. Not sure if it will be too heavy when you mount it. If it is a scotty down rigger, did you add a mount in the back? Also, can you do a video on how you mount the fish finder? Thanks

      Thanks for watching! I’m using the lake troller downrigger from Scotty. I’ve tested it a few times and it works great with a 4lb ball. It’s mounted on a Scotty’s 241 base mount that it snaps into, so no extra parts needed. The Garmin fish finder is mounted on a Scotty universal base mount and also attached using the Scotty 241 base. Hope that helps!

    Hi, great video, I thoroughly enjoyed the frog chorus,,, Can you tell me is your mattress the standard size or the large one. I ask because i just bought this same O.R Helium bivy bag and i already have the Neo air XTherrn in the large size and wondered if it may be a bit too big. Thanks

      Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I really appreciate the kind comment. Of course! My air mattress is the Xtherm Max in the large size. It will fit inside the OR Helium but it doesn’t leave a lot of room to spare. There’s enough space inside to close both the bug net and the waterproof hood zips but the mattress pretty much fills all the floor area of the bivy. Hope that helps and fire away if you’ve got any other questions.
