This Sunday Smooth Jazz series is curated by John Dillard, a staple at Middle C Jazz and a dynamic and extraordinary artist and bassist in his own right.
This Sunday, he brings us veteran vocalist, trumpeter and flugelhornist Rob Zinn. In 2016, Rob Zinn emerged as an internationally recognized independent smooth jazz artist with his critically acclaimed albums Anything Can Happen (2023), Grammy-winning Walk The Walk (2018) and Yesterday Again (2016).
Joining Rob Zinn is special guest Deon Yates, contemporary instrumental recording artist.

I see one or 2 people of color at :19 mark. But I totally agree with your point. They could have done way better.
I remember my friends and I rushing to Partners in Avondale (Jacksonville, FL.) so we could get the best table, on the nights you played. You effortlessly achieved what every musician knowingly or unknowingly strives for...Magic that touched all of the smiles, the hearts, the souls, the clapping hands and tapping feet.
It’s interesting that there are no Black Jazz artists in this promotional video, considering Jazz is the product and invention of African Americans. It’s also interesting to note that there is a Black man acting as a patron. The absence of Black artists in itself doesn’t necessarily mean the institution is not sensitive to the racial unbalance in its booking practices. However it begs to question why Middle C Jazz would consciously exclude Black artists from a thematically produced promotional video and yet present the image of a Black patron; suggesting that we are invited to support the assuming our cultural heritage in a land where there is no shortage of qualified Black Jazz artists. Ass one of these artist, I find it offensive. I hope this establishment would consider producing a more appropriate promotional video, assuming it does give due deference to Black Jazz artists.
