Tomorrow I am auditioning for Bell and beauty and the beast for my high school musical and I am super nervous and this just calmed my nerves!!

the question at the end made me realise that at first i wanted to be a director mostly because i don't like being in the spotlight while i love acting and theatre !

I was just assigned MS drama as a long term sub. Any suggestions or tips so I can help them feel like they are getting the full, most fun experience out of this class while their teacher is away? Or what you would wish for in a sub for your class?

How do the lights get placed? Do you just set them on the floor and they are cordless? I don't see any cords causing the columns to tip over, looks good

We didn’t need a Sweeney Todd teen edition either, and we do have one. I think it was great move to have a Hadestown: teen edition to challenge our musical theatre teens. I will personally be doing it with MT teen group.

I was in a production of this show my 7th grade year. I was Uncle Henry, Crow #2 (Aunt Em was Crow #1), Oz Chorus, and a Flying Monkey. I had a lot of fun during the show, and it remained as my favorite production until 2 years later when I got to be Fletcher in Freaky Friday (a really fun show).

I would love to hear the story about when the electricity went out in the middle of your show.

Came here from a Wednesday blooper video- to know that even professionals mess up makes me confident- I used to do musical theatre in school, so I’ve been in plays before (we even preformed Descendants!) I’ve been thinking about starting acting, so I thought this video might help me get back into it. Wish I had these tips when I started! My friends told me to not audition for Nala in Lion king school musical because it is more competitive role and she doesn't want me to Yap or cry or upset. I appreciate that even I still disagree. The most important process in audition for me is practice, not the result.

Could you do a video of advice for the teachers who are teaching drama but didn’t major in it? I’m running a high school drama program/teaching classes and have a ton of background in acting and improv but little to none in tech theater. I have a thespians troupe and don’t want to disappoint my kids.

Im studying theater but didn’t know how to use it without being a full blown actor. This is a path I’m looking into now so I’m super happy to find this video!

Here are the things I’ve done: Willy Wonka Jr: Augustus Aladdin Jr: Jafar Lion King Jr: Scar Nemo Jr: Bruce Annie Jr: Rooster (double casted) And even after all these parts I still think that my favorite was Augustus, even though it was probably the smallest part, and I just loved being that character in that play because I could make my own choreo at the end.

I did The Little Mermaid and i was ensemble (because my teacher chooses 7th and 8th graders for leads) and it was sooo fun!

what if your character is supposed to cry? should we still fight back the tears???

FIrst of all if someone i know from school is reading this thats kind of embarrassing but i feel inclined to share a bit of my own philosophy on theater. If you wanted a lead role and you got a smaller part, then you can be grateful that you have so much less work to do. Less lines to memorize, less songs to memorize, less blocking, less pressure. People scrutinize the lead characters. The other ones not so much. You can get involved in other ways if you want to, but if you don't, you have great time to just relax. Also, just because you're a side character doesn't mean nobody is going to remember you. That's only if you half ass it. If you put your all into it and really work, you can be that one side character that people are like wait that little flying monkey was so funny omg. Like you can honestly do whatever. I had my director tell me to my face that I'd never get a singing or even speaking role because I couldn't sing. Did I cry? Yes actually I cried a lot. But then I took the initiative to instead build my singing voice. He ended up telling me that he missed me and my positive energy during the production as I ended up not doing it after the comment he made. Never take side character as forgettable character, they are not the same thing!

Greetings and salutations! :D /j (I just like quoting movies) I'm 13-14 years old, and am going to grade 8 in like a month or so- and I always wanted to join our schools drama class, and just be in a play- idc if it's the main character, a side role, or just even behind the scenes- And apparently my school is doing a heathers play (musical edition! :3) next year and I really wanna try and get a role- but my social anxiety, shyness, and awkwardness is getting in the way I overthink everything, get too scared of what everyone will think, and lose my actual talent when I try to imagine a crowd to see me act- I had access from my friend of the play, what they changed to be more appropriate, and everything- throughout all of it I thought I'd fit JD well, but again- he's a more main character and I'd probably freeze up when it comes to auditioning- ESPECIALLY since I'm a girl and all- and probably wouldn't get HIS character out of everyone But I REALLY am passionate about the role, the singing, the acting- I just can't get rid of my social shyness when auditioning :(
