#theonlyopinionthatmatters #filmreview Martial artist-turned egotistical-liar, #stevenseagal gave movies a shot in the late 1980s. Out came an action thriller with a surprising amount of brains and a performance where he actually makes an effort to act. Seagal has never been a good actor, but compare how much he tries in this one to everything he did after 2002 and this looks like Olivier. lmao...

Wow man, you should probably not be reviewing movies. It's pretty clear that you probably only like action or sci-fi type movies. Probably like the Stallone and Schwarzenegger type movies, and all the Star Wars and Star Trek type movies. Maybe even a Transformers fan? This was a great movie. It had a realness and relatability factor to it, that is extremely rare in films. It was really just about one person, and she was just extremely easy to identify with. And not only did she do a fantastic job, especially for her first time out, but she was so absolutely captivating in the entire movie. You just can't, and don't want to, take your eyes off of her. No nudity or sexy outfits or anything like that, to try to exploit her looks, and get a better reception from viewers like you. Actually, she spends most of the film wearing fairly bland and unattractive clothing, and also goes through almost the entire film with absolutely no makeup. And she looks unbelievably stunningly beautiful. Honestly, one of the main reasons that I've watched that film numerous times, is because of exactly that. I'm just completely floored by how naturally beautiful she is, and just can't get enough of looking at her. And she plays the part of a broke and humble young woman so well, that she comes off as being almost attainable for just your common everyday guy like myself, and many others. As a man, and a young man exactly her age at the time that movie came out, I have been able to watch that over the years, and just imagine myself passing through Panama City, or any little town like it, and running into a Ruby out there somewhere, and actually having a chance to be with someone like that, who is so beautiful on the outside and on the inside, but doesn't think of herself that way and is really just looking for someone that is decent and will treat her well and take care of her. I kind of think that's exactly what the writers and director were going for, and they couldn't have chosen a more perfect actress for the role. Especially choosing an unknown actress, it was just a pure stroke of genius, and I'm not sure that anyone else really could have played Ruby so convincingly. Stick to video games and ComicCon man, really.

Earl Derr Biggers wrote the Charlie Chan novels specifically to combat the 'sinister Chinese' stereotype that was prevalent in the 1920s, with characters like Fu Manchu. Chang Apana, a real-life member of the Honolulu police force, appears to have been Biggers' model for Charlie. To extrapolate, Charlie Chan seems to be first-generation Hawaiian (Hawaii not becoming a state until the 1950s), having the Chinese speech patterns of his immigrant parents, so that's not really an affectation, as some people may surmise. (I had a co-worker of Chinese heritage, who was born in America, and she had similar speech patterns, though not as strong.) Chan's children, both in the books and the movies, are all well-educated and have fully American and colloquial speech patterns and mannerisms. In both the books and the movies, Charlie is a well-respected member of the Honolulu police force. No overt racism is shown, except maybe some of the villainous characters. Mandan Morland, as Charlie's chauffer Birmingham Brown, is treated similarly for the most part. (Unfortunately, Steppin Fetchit, in 'Charlie Chan in Egypt'. doesn't get to break out of his stereotypical characterization.) Warner Oland, though Swedish, didn't need make-up to make him look Asian. He actually looked like that in real life, as did his siblings. I believe it was director Hamilton McFadden who insisted that the Chan films be educational as well as entertaining. The films included information on fax machines (yes, they existed in the 1930s), photo finishes at horse races, analysis of blood splatters, and more, which were later crucial to solving the mystery in question. There were a few earlier Charlie Chan films starring Asian actors as Chan, but they didn't have the box office draw of Caucasian actors. It wasn't until Warner Oland was cast that the films took off. The films pretty much launched the careers of such actors as Keye Luke and Victor Sen-Yung. The early films ran 75 minutes or less, true, but the screenwriters packed a lot of story in that limited time. Also, going to the movies was a real experience. For 25 cents (about the cost of a piano lesson), you got two movies, a short subject such as a travelogue, a cartoon, a newsreel, and a serial such Flash Gordon.

This movie was garbage. And if anyone knows about that time it was me. And his storyline sucked. And his characters sucked. Main character is a Latino pretending to be an Italian. He doesn’t look Italian. And who wore a Mohawk back in my neighborhoods that I hung out in the Bronx. We all had nice haircuts and disco clothes. And this was months before Saturday Night Fever. Why not write about how this piece of trash affected our lives. I went looking for this piece of garbage and if we would have found him, he would still be recovering from the beating we would have given him. And I don’t want to hear that Michael Imperioli was a writer for this movie. He was 10 years old when I was in my TBird going around the neighborhoods with my buddies. I have to say I miss those days. Now if the movie writers would have came to the neighborhoods and interviewed us, maybe the script would have been better. We would have told him how certain girls were getting shot. I should know. One of the girls is one of my close friends. Her best friend was my ex girlfriend. I could write a book on these times and the disco life at the time of the shootings. How all the lover spots were vacant for fear of getting shot. Me and my ex girlfriend used to hang out at my cousins house. Or on Friday and Saturday Nights we headed to Long Island. This film in my opinion was a dud. 🕺🏻TM

Yes. My mom’s father. Would always spend summers up in Mackinac Island. Sadly past when I was 10, but at least I got to spend a decade with him.

Just watched it and its definitely a weak link but undeniably a pioneer for his future films. I give huge credit for Ceylan's acting skills.

@@chadyepipia8383 This locally-owned mini-franchise pawn shop in Ottawa called Legend Records. I think your best bet to getting this would be buying a dvd of it on Amazon. It is definitely worth the price. If you love Will Smith, you’ll adore him in this. He is so charming and lovable that it’s unreal.

10 best of the 2000s, in no particular order: Almost Famous Unfaithful The Prestige Zodiac The Wrestler Once Memento Before Sunset Juno The Curious Case of Benjamin Button HONORABLE MENTION: Inglourious Basterds - There is stuff to shit on, but the opening scene in the farm house and the scene in the bar are about as good as it gets for individual chunks.

Never really saw Wall-E, though it was playing in the background more than once. Never got through There Will Be Blood. Started watching it about 4 times, and something always cock blocked watching the whole thing. Can't really vote on either of their #1s.
