AJ, fresh off the Olympics and figuring out what to do, personally went to the Caribbean to go see Lennox and wasn’t received respectfully. At every juncture of his pro career, AJ has stated at Lennox has taken a special, unnecessary criticism to him. Lennox, for what an amazing boxer he is, does tend to live in the past and always brings up shit randomly to assert some sense of dominance as he did with Frank Bruno during the Fury, AJ, Lennox and Bruno sky sports round table discussion. Given that AJ is the new, promotable, loved by British public and handsome face of the sport to bring it into the mainstream, I can defo assume Lennox takes a strong dislike and jealousy to that. AJ was self-cognisant of the kind of bullshit treatment Lennox was dishing he got after he started getting mentorship by Wlad Klitschko. He even stated this in a Fight Hub TV interview where they asked him about this Lennox clown comment. He states how Wlad is the only one of the legends who actively reaches out to him and offers advice and all sorts for the progression of his career and mentality. Wlad clearly wasn’t joking when he said he passed on the torch to AJ. And we all know how we truly know how toxic an ex was when we realise how nice and loving the new partner is. I assume it’s that sort of realisation for him too, in this context. I will add this in support of AJ. I know of many pro boxers and even GB squad boxers who have gotten tremendous support and have name dropped AJ’s experience/sparring or guidance to build their profile and hype, with AJ’s full permission and support given the fact that he follows all of them on social media and likes/comments on their posts. Alongside his monetary support of amateur clubs during covid and how he’s always working with people at Finchley or Sheffield, there is a lot of evidence he backs up his claim that he’s all about supporting the new generation of kids and athletes out there. Lennox is just on his flow of giving terrible commentary and the off comment of maybe participating in those exhibition legends fight against his former competitors. This isn’t a discussion about boxing skill or talent, it’s about personality, manner, guidance and ultimately respect.
