A fancy white wedding dress was never to signify the bride's virginity & purity. It was to signify that her family was wealthy enough to spend a fortune on a completely impractcal garment that would only be worn once. Most women of lesser means wore a dress that would become their "best dress" once they were married. Pretty, yet practical.

Fun Fact: These dresses was worn by white women in the 1800s. Notice how the back of the dress makes her butt and hips look big .That was used to imitate African Black women butts! Africans NATURALLY has a nice size butt,hips and lips ! Sarah Barrtman was an African women who had a nice shape that every white man wanted which made white women very jealous! She was raped, tested on and even in human zoos! After she died or before she died, dresses were made imitate her body ! Look it up !!

Loved seeing these dresses when brides were so elegantly beautiful, not trying so hard to be sexy. I have made several wedding dresses, so much of my love of couture went into the construction so that the day would be so sweetly memorable. I was invited to the weddings, usually though I only went to a few. The looks on the faces of her groom & friends & family, of course, was a happy moment. I knew I had done my job, well.

The wedding dress that has the fringe in the front has an embellishment of gathered material on the upper arms….I have seen the same treatment inside jewelry cases from Victorian period.

Thank you. The reason the first dress shown is so low cut is that in England it was law that a Virgin had to show her nipples, so it could be seen there were no ducts for breastfeeding. Unless summer it was nippy on the nipples.

Where we can watch these Dresses? Where is the Museum?

What I would love would be to see the insides and how they were constructed. Things have changed so much as women have had to be more able to move and work in their clothes plus the advances in how to cut things and the foundation garments for all of this are fascinating.

I chose to wear a stylish suit from J.C. Penney, unlike many girls who dreamed of a grand wedding I never gave it a thought. I was a tomboy and preferred to build tree forts and play in the mud rather than dream about getting married.
