I really like the simplicity of your fishing. Lots of videos out there saying you need this bait and this set up and feed for ages before fishing with the latest feeding strategy. When fishing gets too complicated it ceases to be enjoyable.

Iv Been to same area for few sort trips into dusk over last week and bit , it's been lovely just have to know how to approach that stretch , had 8 barbel and few chub Inc one really good one , I never weigh fish , size irrelevant they all great My concern with this river and all is the amount of predation,ov fished years and people say it's always been like this ,well it hasn't four of those 8 barbel all had the top half of tail ripped off ,one was fresh and bleeding ,I did my best to clean it up , saw two mink , lot of people think otters but mink are much more prolific now , and do terrible damage to big barbel and other fish , same on trent fish with big injuries and scars ,I love animals but something needs doing

I have a dilemma regarding barbel tackle. I was recently using a 1 lb tc rod for chub, and kept getting smashed by larger fish. Assuming they were barbel I upped to a 1.5 lb rod, but could only land fish to about 5 pounds, the bigger examples heading for safety in tree roots faster than I could head them off. It's a snaggy swim on a small river, so today I took a 3lb test curve carp rod and 15 lb line, and managed to land a 9 lb 5 oz fish. However the barbless hook had torn the fishes mouth slightly, but I'm doubtful of netting the bigger examples without hit and hold tactics. Do you think a micro-barbed hook would move about less? I rarely get a take with static bomb or feeder, but the barbel will happily accept a freelined bait. Unfortunately this increases the distance between me and the fish, giving the barbel more time to take refuge. Quite the conundrum.

I use 12 lb BS Big Game line for my barbel fishing. I tested some using weights and it broke at about 18 lbs (I have seen similar results on the Internet). It has never let me down. So your 25 lb BS will be good for 30 lb + 😀 Only problem using line so strong is that if you get snagged by a passing boat on the Ouse you lose the whole reel of line unless you have a handy knife or scissors.
