On November 30, 1949, U.S. Senator Smith mentioned Formosa during a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Acheson and stated that such a military occupation on our part of Formosa would protect our strategic interests in that area which I regarded as “still strictly speaking a part of Japan,” even though by the Cairo Declaration we had permitted the Chinese to take over. 換句話說,台灣島上統治當局就是美國軍事政府/當局佔領的自治領土台灣島上自治當局(the self-governing authorities on Taiwan, an autonomous territory occupied by the United States military government/authorities)。 On November 7, 2015, U.S. Secretary of Defense Carter remarked at the Reagan National Defense Forum held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, and said that "We are also changing fundamentally our operational plans and approaches to deter aggression, fulfill our statutory obligations to Taiwan, defend allies, and prepare for a wider range of contingencies in the region than we have traditionally." ‘’ On October 25, 2004, the US Secretary of State Colin Powell stated that "Our policy is clear. There is only one China. Taiwan is not independent. It does not enjoy sovereignty as a nation, and that remains our policy, our firm policy." On April 3, 2014, Daniel Russell, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the US Department of State, stated in testimony before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asian and Pacific affairs that the United States strongly supports Taiwan autonomy. On December 17, 2016, the US President Barack Obama stated that Taiwanese have agreed that as long as they are able to continue to function with some degree of autonomy, they won't charge forward and declare independence.

What language do you speak? What culture do you abide by? Indiginous peoples aside, I think claiming that you are not Chinese is more complex than the world understands it to be. Are you claiming that you are not a Chinese national? Or are you claiming that you are not an Ethnic Chinese. What the western media fail to understand, is that China is an ethnostate, much like other East Asian nations. One does not simply claim that they are not a Chinese national without also forgoing their Chinese ethnic identity.

4:44 This is less objective and more subjective. Many people say that Chiang Kai-shek is totalitarian. Why did he impose martial law? I think the main reason is that he is afraid of the Communist Party. The Communist Party’s brainwashing culture is definitely not inferior to Western education and culture. After Xie Xuehong and Lin Mushun finished their courses in Moscow, they accepted the instructions of the Comintern and were ordered to contact the Communist Party of Japan and return to China to organize the "Taiwan National Branch of the Communist Party of Japan", the Communist Party of Taiwan. Xie Xuehong is considered a pioneer of Taiwan's socialist revolution and enjoys the reputation of "Taiwan's first female revolutionary". She was also a participating organizer of the Taichung 27th Unit that insisted on using force to resist the Nationalist Government during the February 28th Incident. After the 27th Unit failed to resist the Nationalist Army of the Republic of China, it moved to Xiamen and then to British Hong Kong.

Taiwan's current political condition is that Taiwan was separated from Japan on April 28, 1952, when the San Francisco Peace Treaty came into effect, but has not been independent yet, and it is now still an autonomous territory where the United States exercises military occupation power over it and thus assumes responsibility for the administration of it. Taiwan's current de jure status is that the attribution of Taiwan's de jure ultimate sovereignty remains to be determined by the de jure enemy, the United States(the military occupying Power).

The Qing Dynasty was Manchu and considered a foreign occupation in the era. Also the Qing didn't control the entire island. They were largely limited to the flatlands west of the mountains and the large ports and Suao area. The US secured Formosa from Japan at the end of WW2. MacArthur made a "diplomatic" error by not sending a US military envoy to receive the island on behalf of the Allied Forces. Thus allowing the ROC to set the narrative. (This would l come back to "bite" MacArthur when the US President "fired" him. -- Read the Foreign Affairs Committee meeting minutes. )

The island of Taiwan sadly is the result of the unfinished Chinese Civil War between the CCP and Chiang Kai Shek Nationalist Party. It was unfinished because with US military might interference it made the last major objective of unification stall..Unlike Hainan island which was much nearer to Chinese mainland the CCP was able to finish the job. With the obvious decline in US military and Economic Dorminance( compare the 1990s and today) vis a vis China..hopefully The Taiwanese Chinese would chose Peace Prosperity and Harmony with its other 1.5 Billion Chinese kinsmen either in A Federation? Or a Highly Autonomous Province within China Territorial Integrity. Obviously one or 2 nations would not welcome the reconciliation of the Two Chinese parties for their self geopolitical interest but the overwhelming Chinese Societies and Population ALL over the globe ..desire for a reconciled outcome that finally end peacefully this People Republic of China v Republic of China Civil war.. @@TaiwanNationStatusQuo 1945 Government didn't claim them back, which was different from Taiwan. Listen, it was not a matter, like no one cares who owned Taiwan before 1945, what it matters is that China owned Taiwan between 1945 - 1949. People can argue if it's given back or it was given to, but it belonged to China in 1945 - 1949 was non negotiable. So let me summarize it for ya, 1945 China received Taiwan, 1946, civil war breaks out(at the Taiwan was already part of China like Shanghai or Canton or whatever ), 1949, Taiwan became the last existing territory. So what happened to Taiwan before 1945 didn't really matter as much, if the civil war broke out in 1936 or 1926, it would be a different story.

To the Chinese, Taiwan has always been foreign or “fan” (番). Ming prevented the Dutch VOC from establishing a trading post in Makong on Penghu, because the Pescadore Islands (Penghu) were the easternmost outpost of Chinese civilization. And Ming suggested Taiwan to the Dutch, precisely because Taiwan was located beyond Ming’s border. Assimilated (熟番, assimilated foreigners) Plain aborigines bought their Chinese names from the Manchu yamen in Tainan. They learned Fujianese and later Cantonese as foreign languages, using the alphabet of their Bible to mark pronunciation. The 90% Chinese population of Taiwan as claimed by the “governing authorities ON Taiwan” on their website is a myth planted by the Chinese KMT during the Chiang dynasty dictatorship. They used their education system, their news media and the entertainment provided through their film industry and television to drill into the Taiwanese psyche the false image of an elite Chinese ancestry. During the 1970, every well-to-do family in Taipei had to brag about a mythical Fujianese ancestor to keep up with the Joneses. In Manchu times, the only Tangren (唐人, as the Chinese identified themselves) who exited Tangshan (唐山, as the Chinese called China) were “shack people” (棚民) and "guest people” (客民, the truth behind the Hakka (客家) hoax) who sold themselves as “piglets” (豬仔, self-deprecatory term) to be able to sail to greener pastures and become indentured labor (華工) in Europe’s colonial possessions. And those certainly avoided Taiwan, partly under Manchu control, partly savage. The laobaixing was not keen on risking his queued head lopped off either by the Manchu yamen on the Manchu-controlled side of the「土牛溝」or by the savages (生番, unassimilated foreigners) beyond that border ditch, just to eke out the same sordid living he was fleeing. The offspring of Manchu era assimilated Plain aborigines form, with the Mountain aborigines, the bulk of Taiwanese population. They are of Austronesian stock with late Chinese admixture. The only Chinese on Taiwan are the “zaitai” (在台, ON Taiwan) offspring of two million 1949 Chinese illegal immigrants who would rather cling to their Chinese identity and nationality than blend into the native population. Why can’t every Chinese ON Taiwan ( (在台🇹🇼人民) pay allegiance to Taiwan like the average Chinese American does toward the USA? Eighty years ago, American useful idiots raped Japan at the cost of abetting Chinese imperialism. Washington fed Japanese Taiwan to Nanjing when the US Navy unloaded Chiang’s Chinese KMT army on Japanese Taiwan. In 1945, Taiwan could look forward to enjoying the fruits of the UN charter. Taiwan was independent country material. China’s mission was to guide Taiwan toward independence as the Chinese Mandate Of Taiwan under the framework of the UN trusteeship system. Qing had lost Taiwan in 1895 and 1945 was not returning Taiwan to China. Chiang Kai-shek knew it. He had signed the UN Charter for China. If Chiang knew it, Mao, who had envisioned Taiwanese independence in a 1937 conversation with Edgar Snow, also knew it. Having received from the communists Stalins order at X’an, Chiang, egged on by Mao on behalf of Stalin, had attacked the Japanese Concession of Shanghai. December 1936 Xi’an caused the Pacific war. Once Japan had surrendered, the UN Charter threatened Chinese territorial ambitions toward Taiwan. The Chinese Nationalists and the Chinese Communists launched into a sequel of the civil war. The issue of Taiwanese independence was lost in the fog of the Chinese civil war. But the Chinese, who love to quote the unsigned Cairo press release, never quote that innocuous clause, “the Three Great Allies ... have no territorial ambition.” China squandered its golden opportunity to shine on the world stage. When Kim Il-sung barged into South-Korea, the Truman administration woke up to the dire consequences of the FDR administration's blunders. But it was too late on the ground. The Chinese occupied Japanese Taiwan on behalf of the allies (UN) coalition led by the “principal occupying power”. In disregard of international law according to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention, the Chinese transferred two million of their own on Japanese Taiwan, population 6 million back then. Two million illegal Chinese immigrants overwhelmed six million Japanese Taiwan Komins (皇民). Today, we say “Taiwanese” and “Taiwanese American” while we think “Chinese” and “Chinese American”. Although the US, having given a reluctant nod to its Chinese proxy’s violations of international law, is responsible for having Sinicized Japanese Taiwan, John Foster Dulles, in his capacity as architect of the San Francisco Peace Treaty in the service of the "principal occupying power", prevailed on Japanese PM Shigeru Yoshida not to cede Taiwan to China, to any China. On April 28, 1952, Japanese Taiwan & Penghu was detached from Japan, not from China. Tai-Peng’s international legal status remains undecided to this day. Tai-Peng is a US protectorate and the US -- the SFPT article 23 (a)“principal occupying power” on Taiwan -- is withholding the sovereignty of Taiwan for the future benefit of the native population of Taiwan, the offspring of the Japanese Komins of Japanese Taiwan. Chiang Ching-guo is the first Chinese exile to have said, “I am a Taiwanese.” 40 years later, on the occasion of the last general election, Beijing-born founder of Taiwanese chip-maker U.M.C., Robert Tsao Hsing-cheng (曹興誠), told Chinese KMT stalwarts, “Taiwan's the fatherland now, not China.” The Chinese KMT ON (repeat: ON) Taiwan (TRA terminology) must forget about China or 滾回去祖國, where “祖國" means Chinese Kinmen & Matsu, that Chinese KMT’s fiefdom. The government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the “governing authorities ON (repeat: ON) Taiwan” (TRA terminology) both oppose Taiwanese independence since they both believe that Taiwan and mainland China comprise two portions of a single country's territory. The “governing authorities ON (repeat: ON) Taiwan” (TRA terminology) in their constitution maintain their own claim over the entire Chinese territory including Taiwan and recognize the CCP no longer as a rebellious group but as the "mainland authorities”. When the US had a Mutual Defense Treaty. (effective 3 March 1955 - 31 December 1979) with the “governing authorities ON (repeat: ON) Taiwan” (TRA terminology), the US always reminded the latter that they did not enjoy the sovereignty of Taiwan. The United States “takes note” without recognizing the "One China" position of both sides of the Taiwan Strait. U.S. policy did not recognize that “governing authorities ON (repeat: ON) Taiwan” (TRA terminology) enjoys sovereignty over Taiwan. U.S. policy does not recognize the PRC's sovereignty over Taiwan. U.S. policy does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country; and U.S. policy considers Taiwan's international legal status as undetermined. Why is Taiwan’s international legal status undetermined? Because the Chinese Communists/Nationalists United Front (共國統一戰線) has been preventing the native population of former Japanese Taiwan from self-determining in accordance with UN Charter-ordained Taiwanese independence. The Atlantic Council, a think tank with ties to US-DOS, has been floating the notion that NATO ought to step up to the plate as regards the Chinese threat. That’s all fine and dandy. However, any meaningful coalition arrayed in defense of Taiwan should be broadened to include the 49 SFPT signatory powers, Japan included. That coalition should be named United Nations 2.0 ((UN 2.0). Japan and the US included, the 49 collectively remember that Japan did not cede Taiwan to any China. Shimonoseki Treaty → San Francisco Peace Treaty → UN Resolution 2758 does not impinge on Taiwan’s undecided international status → Taiwan Relations Act: Neither the peoples of China nor the deluded 23 million who deem themselves the “🇹🇼people ON Taiwan" (在台🇹🇼人民, TRA terminology) can enjoy Taiwan's sovereignty. This is the United States' ironclad position on post-WWII Taiwan. The United States has the final say.

There is a movie comedy on how a East German boy tried to keep his mother from finding out the reality of the change in order not to cause her a heart attack. Taiwan might experience some heart attacks if we push to tell the truth, but that’s not a reason to let lies continue to spread. Freedom is not free, and neither is truth.
