#rivian #r1s #issues There are some great things about the Rivian R1S but that's not to say there aren't any issues with them. I've been blessed with a few issues that are still ongoing. I hope this helps with setting some realistic expectations, especially with a new car company. With all this said, we still love our R1S! Gear List (Amazon links provide me with a small commission. #cave #nationalpark #camping Our first National Park of the year! Also first time charging at a national park. It was awesome to see the various cave systems and enjoy the amenities of a National Park without the big crowd. Seems to be a popular area for climbers too. Borrowed a small fridge to use instead of a traditional cooler. Will have to try a couple more times to see if it's worth the sw...

Cat Camping at a Cozy Farm Overnight Camping ~ Rivian R1S EV

#rivian #camping #cats Our cat Nori joined us for this short trip with the Rivian R1S to test how she would do camping overnight with us. She is the calmest of our 3 cats and she got comfortable in no time. We were able to test out charging using an adapter, using tons of AC all day/night, cooking powered by the R1S, and the new tent that attaches to the rear of the car. Amazon Affiliate Links:...

We have our R1S since September 2023 with same alignment issues and was fixed in one service appointment. We had our front passenger door handle retracting when opened and it took multiple trips to get it resolved. I have a right front door panel that is not lined up but not a big deal resulted from stamping I guess. The front camera looks like it needs recalibration and have an appointment. One thing I've consistently experienced is that Rivian has an excellent service team and dedication and I know your issues will be resolved. Yes, we are part of some of these small headaches especially for a startup, but out the door for their 1st EVs (three at once, then three again) they did a fantastic job compared to Tesla which we have as well. Considering we purchased our R1S before the price increase in March 2022, you are never going to get any quad motor SUV this capable for $75k. Rivian will succeed and I'm looking to add the R3 in our family.
Thanks for sharing. Do you know if they did anything other than alignment? Or the alignment numbers? Glad many of your issues were resolved. I also had great customer service so I have confidence they will get to a solution soon. Also can't wait to check out the R3 in person!
Love Deckard! 🐶❤
Same steering issue
I'll reply back if I find any more useful info on alignment in the future
Over the last few months three different CZcamsrs have reported trouble with Camp mode AC/heat failing to stay active overnight causing the cabin to get either very hot or very cold. Have you experienced any issues like this with your R1S?
It hasn't happened to me and we use AC almost every night we camp. Maybe it has to do with camp mode / Power on mode shutting off prematurely?
@@ChargeSetGo That is great news! Thank you for the info. So you use Camp Mode in "Power On" mode? Just want to try to duplicate your results when testing first hand. Thanks again for your channel! Subscribed!
We use 'Stay On' mode to make sure the car doesn't go to sleep and also so we can use AC overnight. Thanks!
Looks like your tire pressure is lower on the right side, front and back Even 1lb of difference could be noticeable - ask a race car driver.
That's a good catch! I checked and both right side tires are 1 PSI lower than the left. I'll try inflating it and get back with results.
I filled up both the right tires and drove ~150 miles. Still seems to be pulling right unfortunately.
@@ChargeSetGo it was worth a shot. Always keep your tire pressure in mind. Thanks for the follow-up
Respectfully, I think anyone who knowingly buys a Rivian R1S with these issues (and many more potential issues not reported here) are FOOLISH. This is why there are financial losers and winners in this zero sum world. I would never spend 100K on a vehicle with so many issues. X7 any day over R1S.
I see your point. Do I wish I didn't have any of these issues? Sure, but I took the risk of buying a first gen EV from a new company instead of an established platform from a legacy brand. I think the difference is that I knew going into it that there will be some issues. It's definitely not a car for everyone, especially if you just want a point A to B luxury road car. To each their own.
@@ChargeSetGoOf course no one wishes to experience these issues, especially from a 100K vehicle. Rivian still has many issues including sub-par ride quality. When I mean by sub-par is that Rivian is worse than the Honda Pilot in ride comfort. It is actually a terrible financial decision to buy a Rivian. No dispute about that. If you are wealthy and can afford to make a poor financial decision, then to each his own.
Looks like you made up your mind so I won't argue, but life isn't all about making precise mathematical financial decisions. That would be depressing. Sometimes you want to buy cool things because... you want to! You are right, if someone can afford something and enjoys it, to each their own. I don't go around spreading negativity about people's preferences, however.
@@ChargeSetGo This isn’t about precise math based decision making. This is common sense personal finance 101. I appreciate your transparency in sharing all the issues you are experiencing. This is not spreading negativity, it’s about spreading the truth! You are helping people avoid making bad decisions.
Even with 3 test drives I could not understand the ride quality of Rivian. I will have to check the 2nd gen out.
I assume you must always visit campgrounds that have a power outlet, correct? How much battery do you have upon arrival and how much battery do you expend on your average camping day?
Actually out of the 6 camping trips posted on the channel, only 2 had electric hookups (cat camping and Pinnacles). The biggest reason is we've only driven up to around 125-150 miles each way to make sure we can finish the trip on a single charge. Now that we are more confident with utilizing an EV for camping, we have longer trips coming up soon where we will have a 30/50amp hookups on site. From our experience we use anywhere between 10-30 miles per night for overnight AC and/or cooking. I'd say cooking uses a negligible amount of power.
Great video and love your camping setup - thanks for sharing!
Love the channel. This is right up my alley. I subscribed and look forward to future content. The air suspension on the R1S makes car camping so nice. In my Volvo XC40 Recharge, I need to find level ground. California is so pretty. Thx for the video. I enjoyed watching.
Thanks! Just looked up the XC40, definitely a good looking car!
🎉🎉 🎉 welcome to NorCal. I’ve been watching the R1S inventory for the last few months when I saw your post about the refreshed R1S. It got me so excited about the announcement next week. Hopefully there will still be good lease deals for the refresh. It may finally be the time to pull the trigger.
My prediction is that they will have even better deals for the pre-refresh models and keep the price for the refresh versions. Hope you get a good deal!
How’s the range hit with the Yakima box over no box ? Been contemplating trying one on my r1s
I don't have anything too scientific but I noticed a 10% hit on a 100 mile stretch of freeway. Did that twice on this trip so it seems consistent. It was relatively flat and I used Driver+ the whole time between 65-70mph.
Nice! Where'd you camp?
It was at a Hipcamp called Salmon Creek Ranch, Redwood Camp #1 site. Just added a link in the description!
Love camping at Folsom’s lake. I live so close to it too What griddle is that? How much range did you use in the r1s overnight
I just added the link to the griddle in the description. Thanks for asking, I forgot to add it! We usually leave AC around 65F and use up around 20 miles. It depends a lot on ambient temperature.
Wonder how do you like the overall ride quality? And whats the draw backs? We are thinking to lease one actually
This is our first EV, 3 row SUV, and air suspension, so it's hard for me to compare the R1S with similar cars. Rides well in my opinion but definitely made to go off-roading. The only drawback is that all Rivian owners experience growing pains alongside Rivian! I get to experience the small issues and the fixes for them coming through OTA updates or at the service center. It's sort of fun for me but definitely not for everyone. It's rumored that a R1S refresh is being announced soon so it would be a good time for you to make a decision.
@@ChargeSetGowill the refresh version have improved ride quality? Also, how does the ride quality of the R1S compare to all or any of the following. BMW X7, X5 Acura MDX (2022+), Honda Pilot (2023+), BMW iX? Thank you!
I've heard from a service tech at my local service center that he thinks the ride quality is improved. In terms of comparing to other cars, we had a 2020 RDX before but it's just hard to compare since they are built for different use cases. I wouldn't depend on the R1S to have a luxurious feel per se. It's built more as an offroad monster. If I had to choose the R1S still wins.
Have you been able to rely on the Rivian hotspot in remote places? Is it worth keeping the power on just for the hotspot?
We always try our phones first and use the hotspot as backup. Definitely worth using since we usually have power on at the campsite.
No way you also use Google Fi , I’ve also found the AT&T being available far more, saved us from our son who absolutely demanded cocomelon on YT 😆
Some good tips. Thanks👍
What tent are you using attached to your truck?
It's a SUV tent from Amazon, links to some of the gear we use are in the description.
Very informative. Thank you. Summer is going to be wild for camping! If you are open to traveling a bit north, both Sierra and Shasta regions have abundance of destinations. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks! We plan on going to Shasta at some point. We've only been there skiing so it's going to be interesting to see it in the summer.
@@ChargeSetGo Shasta is awesome. You'll love it in the summer. I'm sure it will be a packed itinerary for you, but if you're looking for ideas, Potem fall was a pleasant surprise during our last trip. Id recommend to check it out.
Thanks for the recommendation. Always good to add more places on our list of places to visit.
I am here for the Rivian content but I saw my favorite video game in here...Balatro. ❤

Hi guys.. we were your camping neighbor at site 70, you two were at site 71 in Pinnacles National Park on May 12, 2024. Really enjoy your CZcams content and have already subscribed.
Hi! Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! 🏕
OH MY GOD.. We have ONE rooster and that thing bout drives mee crazy.. I would go insane there.. LMAO
🤣🤣 Honestly wasn't too bad! Just becomes normal background noise after a while when it's so constant
Amazing!
Great camping at Pinnacles National Park
C&C said when will you take us to camping, wakakaa
What is that pump you're using for the mattress? And do you use it to inflate or deflate? Both?
It's just an electric air pump from Amazon, just added it to my description. I use it to inflate the mattress a little after it's done self inflating since we like it on the firmer side. It does not work for deflating unfortunately. I think the design of the mattress doesn't allow for a pump unless it's a perfect fit.
Great video story!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome!
Where did you get the window covers?
Nevermind, I see them listed in the info!
I assume you adjusted the current for the 30A/120V TT30 to be 24 Amp draw, correct? (80% rule) . Awesome camping setup and what a cool kitty!!
Yup, lowered it to 24A manually from the R1S charging tab to account for the 80% rule. Thanks! Nori is the best. Hoping to bring her with us every other month or so.
What a wonderful adventure! What's the temperature in the tent during the night?
Honestly in the tent it's probably close to ambient temp. We sleep inside the car with the AC set to ~65.
@@ChargeSetGo thanks for the reply. Did you sleep with tent attached or detached? I'm curious if it's feasible to sleep in the tent while attached to the cargo. I'm deciding between an R1S or a Model Y. Have you had experience camping in a Model Y as well? After watching three of your videos, I'm already a big fan of the channel. Please keep the adventures coming.
Thanks for the kind words! We have been in Model Y but never camped with it. We sleep in the car with the tent attached. We leave the liftgate open or closed depending on how cold it is outside. For example in our most recent trip we left the AC off and the door slightly open since it didn't get that cold overnight (video coming Friday!!) If we had friends joining us they could totally sleep in the tent too. All I can say is the R1S has way more room, if that's what you are looking for. It fits our needs.
What are you cooking with?
It's a 1500w griddle plugged into our Rivian R1S. We also use an electric kettle, pressure cooker, etc.
Please, if you would, share to make and model of the griddle. Thank you

It's called "Haidilao self heating hot pot", we bought them from our local Asian grocery store
@@ChargeSetGo thank you!

Will sub right now if you share this location!!!
It's Eagle's Nest site at Ascension Ranch on Hipcamp.
Sound is awful. Couldn’t watch the video because of it.
Thanks for the feedback. Which part didn't work out for you? Maybe it was the background water noise from the creek?
Cool video
I'm making stir fried udon after watching this lol
Easy to make for sure
Where did you camp? I’m looking for camping spots myself.
It's called Foxes Family Farm on Hipcamp.
Wonderful I think we will visit there also. Was noise from the animals an issue at night trying to sleep?
Not at all, but we did sleep inside the R1S. I'm sure it would've been more loud if we slept in the tent though.
Rivian™ should use this video as an ad ❄️
Haodilao lol
I'd love to visit this farm. Such friendly animals and peaceful vibes. It looks like it was pretty warm - was it helpful to have the AC vs sleeping in a traditional tent setup?
We went during an unusually hot few days for April, so we didn't even use AC overnight this time. Just used the sleeping bag as a blanket. We did turn on the heater when we woke up so we get eased into the chilly morning weather.
This cat is living her best life. 😻
Ive slept on my Rivian with a heated blanket (on low).. I actually had to crack the window a little, it got TOO warm
It definitely gets warm in there, especially with 2 people. We often lower our AC temp overnight.
Great video. Love the understated vibe. What duffel bag is that at the 2:00 mark? Looks voluminous.
Thanks! It's a Dakine Boot Locker, we use it for our ski/snowboard gear. Fits a pair of boots in the bottom compartment, and helmet/gloves/clothes in the top compartment. amzn.to/3JzkTyk
Brilliant! Serene and beautifully put together. Inspires me to want to do the same.
Thank you! More videos coming soon!
I loved your video. There’s so much loud and self indulgent material out there. Comparatively, your video is calm, pleasant to watch and elegantly understated. Best wishes for many happy adventures. I think I’ll go for the R1S over the CyberTruck which is ready to configure for me.
Thanks for the kind words! I definitely recommend the R1S. I think there's some discount promotion going on right now. We did have to get it aligned at our local service center (might not have been correctly done at the factory) but it's definitely been a great 1 month with the car so far.
Those 21” road tires did much better in snow than I thought they would
It definitely did pretty well. We were only expecting well plowed roads but was happy to test it out on unplowed and fresh snow conditions.
We are taking delivery of our R1S and finding your videos so fun and relaxing. Keep them coming!
Thank you! More videos on the way! Hope you get your R1S soon and go on your own adventures as well.
