Cool Cows thanks to HVLS fans in dairy sheds 😎
Heat loads can build when farm infrastructure doesn't provide cooler conditions for the whole herd, particularly in cattle and dairy sheds.. Decreased milk production is the clearest cost, but some effects are less obvious and result in significant productivity losses. These include:
• reduction in fertility and calving rates
• low milk components
• body condition loss
• susceptibility to infection
Consider the opportunities for reducing temperature and evaporation opportunities, via shade and shelter and how these can be integrated into existing infrastructure. The right combination of cooling methods based on how the farm operates is the key to reducing heat stress.
One of the best and most efficient ways to keep your cattle cool during the summer and reduce the effects of heat stress, is to place HVLS fans throughout your farm. Many farmers default to traditional low velocity, high speed fans which in return dramatically increases the electricity bill. (One HVLS replaces the equivalent of multiple small fans.) In addition, low traditional spot cooling fans only mobilise air within a few metres from the fan resulting in limited cooling and often increased heat caused from cattle huddling together near the fans.
Air movement affects both convective and evaporative heat losses, making it a vital factor in preventing heat stress. To keep your budget low and your cattle cool, Hunter HVLS fans are the way to go. HVLS fans distribute large amounts of air at a lower rotation speed resulting in the ability to keep your barn feeling cool. Cattle-wise, this will help avoid heat stress, maintain ideal milk production, and even keep bugs and birds from flooding the facility.
Our Hunter, HVLS fans will greatly cut down on your air maintenance and at a minimal cost per day to run. Keep in mind: without proper air movement your cattle can fall prey to heat stress, and dehydration resulting in increased hydration costs and potential loss of life.

      When installed and configured correctly for the right sized home, these decentralisd push pull systems have the supply in a different to location to the exhaust - ensuring recirculation is achieved throughout the designated areas. Although for medium to larger sized homes a centralised ducted HRV system would be a more efficient option.

    • @Mistted
      @Mistted Před 4 lety

      Yes, but you need a certain kind of speed controller that doesn't in worst case break the fan, most cheaper (and some expensive) ones tend to cause unpleasant humming that may damage the fan, especially at lower speeds. You want to get a "transformer speed controller" that changes the voltage of the fan which causes the fan to change it's speed. You can actually get those pretty cheap (between 25-50€), they give you more external speed options without any sliders so it works with the fan perfectly. For example Xpelair WAC1 is probably the cheapest one, it has 5 speed options and on/off button, you can get one under 30€ from different places so it's not that expensive, worth it if you need one.
