    Why did J I Case fail to be number 1 in sales ? They were better then all others but John Deere had better marketing and IHC In Hell Constantly that convinced Tenneco to bail the bankrupt company to continue.

    • @LanceStoddard
      @LanceStoddard Před 5 měsíci

      Tenneco bought IH AG unit. They did not 'bail out' IH. The larger portion of IH went through bankruptcy and continued as Navistar. J.I. Case in the early Seventies decided to concentrate on their construction equipment, which was more profitable than ag. Case did not have the production volume that JD had, or IH. Even if they had better marketing and more dealers, I doubt they would have had the facilities to meet the greater demand.

      I grew up on a farm where we had both JD and Case tractors. My dad owned a ‘67 930 Comfort King and a ‘ 72 3020 and 4020 JD. The difference in brakes was the biggest downfall to the Case tractor. We pulled a 20’ mounted anhydrous ammonia applicator with a nurse tank in tow. Turning at the field ends was tough with the Case and a lot simpler with the JD. The turning brakes made the difference. Other than that the Case was a well built and economical tractor.

    Love our case 2470, has done endless hours of work over the years, been around the clock a couple of times prior to us purchasing it. I don't think I've used a tractor with so much traction. They were very advanced tractor for their time. Bring back the 70s. Only 150hp I could comfortably say it would outpull any other 150hp old or new tractor.

    Great video! I actually operated one of these back in the ‘80s when my father-in-law owned one. It had a cab on it. We used it for pulling a large breaking plow to open up new land after taking the brush off. I had the rear steer set a touch toward the straight edge of the furrow to get the maximum cut width of the large single share. This tractor was quite advanced at the time it was new, for sure.

      @@MurhsDerf Here's my advice on buying. For the 70 series. 1270,1370,1570. 90 series 2290 and up. You better come up with an extra 10grand in case there's a clutch slippage, and the rest of the Powershift goes out... Don't bring it to case ih if you got 15-20grand.... My opinion. I don't recommend using the Powershift. Only use 1st powershift to do most fieldwork. If you use the Powershift alot. The Powershift tranny would last you 10years or if not less. My way. I'm confident it'll last you 20-40 yrs depending on when the previous owner fixed the Powershift...

      @@MurhsDerf plus this too. Test all the Powershift gears climbing uphill. If 1st 2nd or 3rd powershift is slowing down to where it stops uphill. That tells you that one of the cluchplate in the powershift cluchpack is slipping. That I'd definitely recommend bringing that tractor to a shop that specializes fixing powershifts for the 70 and 90 series cases. That happen to my 1270. It's in the shop now..
