What Wile E. Coyote Teaches Us About Depression
Wile E. Coyote is a symbol of many things - buffoonery, unwavering brand loyalty to the Acme Corporation and, to Looney Tunes revisionists, resilience.
But he can also teach us a lot about depression and other mental health disorders.
Here are the two articles I mention in the video:
Dr George Burden: 'Do Looney Cartoon Characters Show Signs of Mental Illness' - lifeasahuman.com/2010/humor/do-looney-cartoon-characters-show-signs-of-mental-illness/
Natalie Frank: 'Are Psychological Issues the Reason That the Coyote Can’t Catch That Darned Road Runner?' - medium.com/mental-gecko/why-cant-the-coyote-catch-that-darn-roadrunner-d13990ed7d0f
If you enjoy this video, please do like and subscribe. I would love to share more thoughts on #depression, #anxiety and #mentalhealth - in particular #mensmentalhealth, which is still treated flippantly despite the attempts of CZcams bozos who use it to discuss cartoon characters.

Wade boggs should've kept his mouth shut
Ugh you cut out the best part with the Mattingly "sideburns" gag. "Still like him better than Steinbrenner".
I never got the sideburns thing about Mr Burns, some one do me a favour, much appreciated
originally sideburns (from the American Civil War, look up Ambrose Burnside for whom the facial hair is named) were a sort of handlebar moustache that connected to a pair of muttonchops leaving the chin bare. burns being old as shit used the old as shit definition. he was telling him to trim his moustache.
Griffey Jr was on the juice.
Poor Sax. I think he got the worst fate
Fun fact: nearly four years before this episode, Wade Boggs guest-starred on “Cheers.” The main reason he agreed to appear in that episode was because he had a mistress who lived in Anaheim, California. He took advantage of having a free trip to CA and took two days off from spring training. Also, Darryl Strawberry was known for picking up mistresses in the stands while in the dugout and then gettin’ his rocks off before going back on the field. I suppose both of those facts were exaggerated due to the stereotype of athletes. So I would take both of those with a grain of salt.
Sax’s arrest was likely payback from the police department for their softball game loss to the power plant team at the start of the episode
Top 3 episode for me
Every single one of these players should be in the HoF for this episode alone.
🤨 The dryer goes on the right.
cheapskate b*tch can't afford any new furniture or appliances
I wondered what that "Player Piano Simpsons Joke" was. I remember this episode, but I do not remember that part.
My favourite one is the *LORD PALMERSTON* scene
1:18 they're both wrong. They can fight over Churchill or Attlee.
you're darn right, Winston Churchill was the only greatest prime minister in the history of England, Attlee was not even close
José Canseco was so nice
Here yes. In real life, not so much apparently
And I say that England's greatest prime minister was Lord Palmerston!
Pitt the Elder!
@@davidmillerstavroulakis1421 LORD PALMERSTON
@@coolrank12 Pitt the Elder!
@@davidmillerstavroulakis1421 ALRIGHT YOU ASKED FOR THIS, BOGGS!
I can never decide which gag is funnier: Mattingly's sideburns or Boggs getting belted by Barney.
D, All of the above Ooo sorry Bojack, correct answer was B although A and C are also true
Extremely silly, yet probable, mishaps!😂
8 Misfortunes 1. Wrongfully arrested 2. Radiation poisoning 3. Gigantism 4. Not being able to say no 5. Knocked out in a bar fight 6. Tourist trapped 7. Fired by a crazy boss 8. Hypnotized into a chicken Mr. Burns said “misfortunes” not injuries, accidents, or traumas. Just things that are misfortunate (bad luck)
(Laughter) No..by tomorrow you’ll barely be able to breathe.
But I did a good job.
Mr Burns has only himself to blame for Don Mattingly's "misfortune."
LMAO THE PIANO PLAYING MUSIC AS IF IT WERE CALLING FOR HELP I CAN'T STAND IT!!!! 🤣😆😅
This joke is hilarious🤣🤣
I just trimmed my sideburns like that haha
LORD PALMERSTON
It's HSACWDTKDTKTLFO for short.
😂😂❤
for short: HSCWDTKDTKTLFO
1:11 that is comedy gold
*LOOOOOOORD PALMERSTON!*
Pitt The Elder!
What a weird but wonderful funny mishaps lol thanks for the upload
0:11 what made them think he did it?
0:26-0:39: My favourite part!
There were 9 players. The only one nothing happened to was Daryl Strawberry.
But Burns did end up switching him out for Homer.
Of the 9 players I say Steve Sax really got the short end of the stick the most. He was very cooperative with the police, but they copped an attitude against him from the start and never eased up. I hope Sax sued the hell out of Wiggum and the rest of Springfield's police department once he was freed.
This show was great, I still quote it today with everyone who doesn't watch it looking at me in confusion.
Yeah same “As they say in my favourite tv show, let’s find out”
Ok, what was the point to recruiting Clemens for a softball game?
🤨
Jose Canseco is a truly great man.
I always loved how only 7 mishaps actually happened but then Burns instigated the next two.
Wade Boggs got off pretty lightly if you think about it. all he got was a black eye
By the looks of it, a broken jaw too. 🤭
as a kid who grew up watching baseball in the 90s, i can only say how funny is was THEN pales in comparison to how funny it is NOW
The idea of Ken Griffey Jr taking a performance enhancer is the kind of joke that only got better with age strictly in an ironic sense, given he has a pretty clean record from the steroids era and openly said the reaosn why was he didnt wanna be seen as a cheater.
"you watch too many movies Sax"
"Saxy Boy" 😆
Strawberrys mishap was not getting his 10th home run because Burns wanted the match-up.
I wouldn't really count that as one seeing as he did get to play.
We're talking sooooooftball....
from here to San Diego
@@masterfarr8265 Mattingly and Canseco...
@@matthewmulholland1797 *_From Maine to San Dee Yay Go_*
It's a good thing Canseco had all those steroids to help him get all that stuff out of there.
Based on the Wade Boggs/Barney Gumble scene. I wonder in an alternate universe you'll see two Cricketers arguing about who was United States' Great President was: James K. Polk or Rutherford B Hayes?
So, Lord Palmerston and Pete the Elder are lesser known prime ministers?
happy 30th anniversary homer at the bat!!! :3
LORD PALMERSTON!
Wade Boggs says he gets more questions about this scene than his baseball career. As a baseball fan, that makes me happy
He’s lucky. Originally, Boggs was going to get into a belching contest with Barney, and the producers were so impressed with his eructations they were going to use them as the generic Springfield burp in future episodes. What a legacy he could have had.
Hoping he is the true source of Jay Sherman/Eudora Welty’s…
I love that he's a good sport about it. Still defends Pitt the Elder on Twitter!🤣

@@Kingbarthon Time to drink 50 beers to honour his memory.
If Burns knew what sideburns were there would have been 7.
