40 LITRE TAN DRY SACK...Surplus Only
REMOVE ALL AIR FROM A DRY SACK (HOW TO)
czcams.com/video/jduzTedbeZ8/video.html
brief history of the British army 40 litre dessert tan dry bag
The British Army's 40-litre desert tan dry bag is a piece of equipment designed for military personnel to keep their gear dry and protected from the elements, particularly in desert environments. While the history of this specific dry bag might not be extensively documented, its development and use are part of the broader evolution of military gear tailored for modern combat and environmental conditions.
Historical Context
Military Necessity: The need for waterproof and dustproof storage solutions has always been crucial for military operations. Protecting equipment from water, dust, and sand ensures that soldiers can rely on their gear in various conditions, including harsh desert environments.
Modern Conflicts: The increased deployment of British forces in desert regions, such as the Gulf War (1990-1991), the Iraq War (2003-2011), and operations in Afghanistan, highlighted the need for specialized equipment. This led to the development of gear that could withstand the extreme conditions of desert warfare.
Development and Features
Material and Design: The 40-litre dry bag is typically made from durable, waterproof materials such as heavy-duty PVC or nylon. The desert tan color provides camouflage in arid environments, blending with the sandy terrain.
Capacity and Functionality: With a 40-litre capacity, the bag is designed to carry essential items such as clothing, electronics, and other personal gear. It features a roll-top closure to ensure a watertight seal, keeping contents dry and protected from sand and dust.
User-Focused Design: The design includes features tailored for ease of use and practicality, such as adjustable straps for carrying comfort, compression straps to minimize bulk, and attachment points for securing to other gear or vehicles.
Usage and Impact
Deployment: The dry bag has been widely used by British soldiers in various operations where environmental conditions demand reliable protection for their gear. It is part of the standard issue kit for personnel deployed in desert regions.
Versatility: Beyond military use, the dry bag has found applications in civilian outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, and water sports, where its durability and waterproof capabilities are highly valued.
Legacy and Continued Use
The 40-litre desert tan dry bag represents a small but essential part of the British Army's commitment to equipping its soldiers with reliable and effective gear. Its development reflects ongoing efforts to adapt to the changing needs of modern warfare and environmental challenges, ensuring that soldiers are prepared for any conditions they might face.

The main channel is still there airing videos every Friday, but is due end very soon, & replaced by 2 other sister channels, with (Surplus Only) being one of them. bexbugoutsurvivor is filmed a year in advance, and I haven't filmed anything for many months now, and when the remaining episodes are aired the channel will close. My back is ok but on very strong meds with heavy side effects. The second part of the social experiment will restart bexbugoutsurvivor in October 2025 with 36 episodes, and the more familiar (bexbugoutsurvivor) content moved to membership or Patreon. OTHER CHANNELS I OWN. bex-treks (Lightweight camping) bexbugoutsurvivor (Original ideas) none mainstream thinking. Surplus Only (Military kit) displayed without personal opinion. An announcement will come soon to all subscribers.

Hi Bex. Hope you are well. These boots were really common, in the early ‘80’s. I bought a couple of pairs for beach fishing down Chesil in Dorset. Great boots for shingle, as nothing would get caught in the treads. I probably only paid a fiver for them back then as, like you say, they were not the comfiest of boots, but fine if you just wanted something to throw on. Hope you are well, all the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

I think there's a bit of a mindset thing with it, Most people load up a pack with the idea of 'I carry it from here to here and back', Whereas the military outlook is 'I carry it to here, then here, then leave nonessentials at the harbour and continue on further...' You need your guts with you and can manage to function perfectly well without the fluff. Belt order is guts, Bergen is fluff... 😂🤘

These are very hard to find in like new/new condition, atleast in my area of the world. Also found a name tape, pencil, and a AA battery in the pockets 😂. I can never find them in crap condition even in my size (medium) , so I HAD to buy this when I saw it today. Said $60.99 on the tag, but when she rang it up it said $39.99.

Ey up. I own the trousers and also the newer MTP waterproof jacket and whilst I think they're great, cheap to buy and certainly keep you dry (if looked after) I do find one downside, they're definitely not as breathable as my gore-tex pro jacket... but then I only paid £35 for the MTP waterproof jacket as opposed to £400 for my gore-tex pro jacket so there's definitely many benefits to the military issue ones.

This sort of stuff was 'GUCCI Kit' when I was in, the only drawback is you cant do admin in them like you can under a poncho in bad weather, they appeared about the time of the 'bouncing bomb' sleeping bags and were in OG rather than DPM when they were 1st issued at least in my unit, but blokes preferred to buy their own ones that had a zip down the side for a quick exit for the usual reason :/

I have a full softie set, but just the top in the new version, never actually seen any trousers though online, at least, not that I’m aware of. How come the new version isn’t as warm, what kit does a soldier wear to make up for the difference in warmth? I got mine for winter camping, although I’ve just invested in a Savotta TST thermal cloak, the insulated one (67g/m2), I figured I’d wear it in camp instead of the softie suit- it is about 100grams less in weight, but, it means I can take a lot lighter sleeping bag because the thermal cloak is also an insulated bivi bag, so I’m saving at least 1.1kg or more, also the the thermal cloak is fully waterproof in the rain (the zip isn’t so you have to sort of fold it around you to prevent ingress. The plus side of the zip is, it lets condensation out when using as a bivi, so although it’s not breathable material, it’s not at all as bad as you would thing it would be, condensation wise).

You need to untie or cut the hood cord and take off the existing chinch toggle. I bought a double cord lock, placing each cord separately thru each hole of the new toggle, ensuring the toggle is compressed while fitting. The old toggle was missing or broken (can't remember) but the new toggle holds better and is easer to find in the dark, and is easier to use.....If your existing toggle is in good order, perhaps consider keeping it......bex
