As a Californian who wants to move to Idaho I think it’s a great idea. But I’m learning from these comments Idahoans aren’t particularly “open minded.”

I righted at almost 25 miles an hour. That lane is useless to me.

I prefer shared bike and cars together. With a bike lane you have more risk of collision at every intersection and driveway

Protected lanes are needed everywhere in the usa. People and bikes alsways lose when they come in physical contact with a moving vehicle.

Wow... didn't know Boise had traffic lights already. Not to suggest that Boise is behind the times, but well, it's Boise. If you've ever considered going to Boise, do yourself a favor, and don't.

Let me translate this uneducated woman. By “Bikers” she means cyclists, which means riding a peddle cycle. A “Biker” rides a motorcycle or Motor Bike, aka a Bike. She DOES say bike lanes later, which is usual parlance for cycle lanes, but please don’t refer to cyclists as Bikers.

As a serious cyclist and 100 mile per week commuter, I hate projects like this. Political eye candy. Spend $10 million to build a couple visible miles, but leave a dearth of rideable long haul routes to connect wide areas. Oh, and have I mentioned that they’re totally sketchy? So easy to get doored, and so easy for car drivers to step across without looking. If the protected lanes didn’t have parking next to them, they would be much safer

Very nice. We have some protected lanes downtown, though not in the area where my office is. I do generally take a train when I go downtown anymore, though. It takes a little longer than driving CAN take, but it’s pretty standard and easy to plan for, rather than how with driving the traffic ends up being a problem that’s hard to account for. If I have to account for double the time driving should take to be safe, I may as well just take the train and have a relaxing trip in. Bikeshare is cheap once you’re downtown. Anything they can do to help let people choose not to drive in downtown areas is welcome. All the single occupant cars are a problem, it’s why it’s so awful to drive there.

In my city of Toronto people ride bikes and mortised viecles on sidewalk and run pedestrians like me of the sidewalk. No bell no notifycation they are passing. Bike lanes are ok but you have to keep cars of them because motorists will use them.

The Netherlands has the best, Boise is in the running now, Ann Arbor, Michigan is pretty good where I live, many are seeing how good bikes are. The Netherlands had so much congustion in the 1960's they started building the bicycle infastructure, closing off streets in big cities, making bikeways, now there are two bikes for every person in the Netherlands, so I don't feel bad for having 5 or more.. different seasons/sports call for more bikes, you can never have too many.. Happy Trails ;) !!!

Watching from the Netherlands ("cycling heaven"), I am impressed. Keep up the good work!

Did the same for my sister. Saved her many times from abuse. It took me a long time to call it abuse.

The only issue will be the folks who park, and try to cross the bike lane while talking on their cellphones and are oblivious to their surroundings. I've seen many a video of city bikers colliding with those folks.

And for all the helmet enthousiasts , helmets are optional not a rule. Here in the Netherlands the majority doesn't wear a helmet , but statistics show 47% of the accidents with cars cause head trauma and individual cyclist accidents 28%. So if you want te be sure , wear one and if you're adventurous and a thrilseeker go topless. I myself have never worn a helmet on a bicycle not even on my mountain or racingbike and I've never hit my head in 45 years , lucky or observant . . . who knows !? 😏
