Also Driven is where we drive and discuss some of motoring's also-ran vehicles. Made up of best friends Jim (@thealso) and Siôn (@sionhudson), we take you on some automotive adventures with some unusual or otherwise very ordinary cars.
Lake Garda by Fiat Topolino!
Siôn is on holiday in Italy, and saw that there were Fiat Topolinos for rent, and obviously couldn't resist. Join him and some wonderful scenery for a look around this Citroen Ami friend.

Car Collection Caper from Bristol! What have we bought this time???
Fiat said they would be launched in UK in '2024'. It's now September, there is a 24 week delivery in it's latest market, Germany so if they launch in UK this year it's doubtful we will get any delivered before April/May 2025.
It reminded me of the little cars being driven in the 1960's series The Prisoner. I think the stripey dashboard cubby helped with that. Looks like great fun. Have a wonderful vacay guys.
The Topolino really looks good in that amazing Italian scenery! It's SO cool - and the open one is off the scale!
It feels like an Ami that’s been finished off properly. Very sweet.
Not heard Popcorn for years 🙂. Think you just added something to my future holiday to-do list.
I like the one that resembles the Isetta, I have forgotten its name, sorry, I think that looks better slightly than the Ami.
Thats the Microlino
@@duartefh88 Yes that's it, Thanks I think it is really cute and beats the pants off the Ami.
@@Vince_uk£18k though
Great video guys love the car, hope you have a great holiday 👍
I don't know how heavy or foldable Brian's wheelchair is, but you could maybe strap it to the luggage rack? Anyway, the Topolini looks cooler than the Ami and Rocks-E combined, especially in that colour. Very Italian. And I'm sure Jim will be very jealous 😂
Yes, if it was my own Topolino then I would indeed have found a way to strap it on. But as it’s rented I wasn’t going to risk it!!!
Great video guys. I think the cornering speed has been restricted, right?
I remember drinking directly out of a brook similar to that next door in backwoods New Hampshire as a kid. Absolutely no idea how I didn't die of Giardia, but my mom told me to do it, so I did. Don't do that.
My Mum had this car during the early 90's till around 2002. It's like looking at a place I used to call home.
Vermont looks just as lovely as I'd hoped. The Ver bit is definitely green, the Mont bit is definitely lumpy rocks. 850 miles is impressive! Although it looks like the (almost) ideal machine for trundling around the forest roads.
Wouldn't it have been a more pleasant drive with a motorbike helmet and jacket etc?
Probably
Thanks for the peek at Vermont…a trailer sounds like an excellent idea, 850 miles in the roofless wonder is more than plenty.
The trailer ended up sooooo expensive
@@alsodriven yes, I had a vehicle shipped from Texas to California and the bill made my eyes water
These re the kinds of things I would seek out on an adventure. Great video.
They are some of my favourite stuff about Vermont
Loved the von Trapp lodge.
Its a beautiful spot
World's tallest filing cabinet; oh America 🇺🇸 😆❤
I liked it!
You were probably right, 850 miles is doable in a regular car and this yoke is far from regular 😊
I was done by that point
SMART ❤
That JDM situation doesn’t surprise me. I’m in Texas, and I’ve imported cars from the UK and rust, to some degree, is always a problem (cars must be at least 25 years old to import here). I’ve also imported cars from Japan and unless the car is from the northern island of Hokkaido, there will be no rust. Mileage on JDM cars is usually much lower too. The downside is no easily searchable MOT history on them.
These cars being much more modern rust really isn't an issue
must be rough doing that
I gave up. You'll see in the next video
So... not as comfortable as my N-ONE, you say?
Funny enough.... Btw do I get a mug for this hell?
@@alsodriven Appropriately enough, you've earned the new "Czech yourself before you wreck yourself" mug.
@@chrisnicholson3231 Thank you!
Oh man, I'd love to drive across New England. Possibly with a bit more protection than that though!
Windscreens are underrated
If we do it manually and leave that way there is possibility to have any problem with the rooftop?
Nope... It clears the folding mechanism fine and it also will stop you from putting things on the rear internal deck which might cause the glass to smash if you forget they are there and lowered the roof
@@alsodriven also I have the light of rooftop flashing on the dashboard but the rooftop operates perfectly, any possibility to be because of that?
@@gentiankulli5180 sounds like you need to get some codes read
What an amazing adventure 😍
I'd rather not be deported again if that's ok
You definitely caught the sun.... Or, was it windburn? Full marks for dedication for taking this trip on.
I couldn't feel my face by Vermont....
"Like being pistol whipped in the face with a penis!" I'm not entirely sure that would be as unpleasant as you meant it to sound.
'This is quite intense' Cue horrendous wind noise
Imagine listening to it for hours on end while having your face sandblasted lol
Why do you say we when you are doing it by yourself 🤔🇮🇪
It's the Royal We. I use it too.
Yeah, the Smart and Moi so 'We' lol
Awesome to see this thing across the pond on North American soil 😎
Took long enough lol
I'm thinking about importing this car in the US, but i'm worried of getting stopped by cops for no mirrors 😅
That would be the least of your worries
2bh Fiat Seicento/600 (187) and Cinquecento are just the best small baby cars in my opinion and saying ya dont need it , trust me bro you need one !
That's our first video and we are absolutely in love with it now
The blue Fiat was a Fiat Ritmo & not a Strada 😀, unreal cars their as i had a uno, punto, scudo, ducato loved my Fiats 😀
Good to know!
Thanks again for the pointer to the chrome pen, Jim - I've got one to do the badges on the Jag this weekend. Much appreciated.
Glad to help
Pretty good, and definitely better! 😮💨 Are the badges even available for purchase? Seems unlikely. 😬 Is this something that 3D printing might solve for everyone with older cars in their garage in the near future? 🤔 🤷♂️
I will guarantee that someone will have a set on eBay lol
Protip: put a bit of painters tape or wiggle a scrap of paper behind the badge to get a clean line between the edge of the badge and the paint. Similarly, you can do a rubbing of the badge, cut it out with a razor blade, and overlay it to do the raised bits nice and clean as well. Or ideally, pop the badge off when possible, but that can quickly escalate into a faff if it's taped on.
Oh ta! Though will probably do them again when the actual paint has been done
Your FIAT painting skills are definitely better than whoever "matched" the front wing repair LOL!
I think so too!
Ack Jim Hilditch, didnt realise you were doing this CZcams lark. Hope you and family keeping well
It's great fun, keeps me out of trouble lol
You did some proper badge engineering. *badum tss*
Oh well done!!!
Looks much improved
It's funny how the little things make a car much less of a banger
Great job, Jim
Thanks !
Looks great to me. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 👍
better than nothing
Definitely a bit of an improvement
I have a few fiat's here with faded badges 🙄 so will study the video to see exactly what markers you were using 🤗 Hopefully I can do as good a job as you 😂👍🇮🇪
Go for the thicker tips, you get less 'Brush Marks'
Drove one of these Fiat 500 convertibles in Portugal a couple of years ago. Didn't have the Fake Hybrid system or the heaving breathing module in it though. 😁
Do we still get heavy breathing phone calls? Or do the people that do that just watch weird stuff on CZcams now?
@@alsodriven 🤷♂️ Ask your camera operator.
@@El_Smeghead well it's my husband so obviously he's going to get excited round moi 🤣
It was wonderful to meet you both and I really enjoyed my first proper classic car show. I had a fantastic day. Oh, I’m the other fan with the Yellow Cinquecento Sporting that was next to the beautiful light metallic blue Panda 😊❤
@@paulschneider9286 it was a really good day Lovely to see so much interest in Fiat for once
It's really good to see a review of a new car by people who perhaps share some of my retrogrouch prejudices against them. 83mpg was impressive. The previous generation of non-hybrid cars with tiny turbocharged engines (which I've rented etc a few times) are slow and only do about 40mpg in the real world.
You can probably work out that it ticks every box that Siôn needs in a daily but we are just so unenthusiastic about it Don't think it's the Kia's fault, it's most cars now are just a rather uninvolved appliance that you push a few buttons on and it pretty much does the rest on a long journey. Utterly sublime but so unengaging
man the TT is a pretty little car!!
For very little money
Was that 83mpg a computer figure or a calculation by yourself. And what about the “Un”intelligent Speed Assist? How annoying/accurate is it, and how easy to turn off. Some manufacturers make it easy, others virtually impossible.
That's Tank to Tank calculation It just shows the speed limits, thats all
Is it street legal in the US specifically in Massachusetts
No
@@alsodriven 😪😭 US ALLOWS Motorcycles BUT NOT MINI CARS. I’ve been searching for any mini cars ranging from mini kei trucks to this. I’m moving out of America at this point.
