Do you collect honey from them

I didn't know plums only fruit on 1 and 2 year old wood. That will affect my pruning in future, thank you. However, everything I've read and seen says to prune plum trees in Spring/early summer to avoid/reduce possibility of silver leaf. I'm in the UK, maybe it's not a problem where you are?

Whilst providing homes is better than no homes we should not be using drilled holes or bamboo canes if you want to help the solitary bees maximise their next generation. Holes and bamboo will get infested with pollen mites, Houdini flies, mono wasps, and other pests as left empty in the spring and cannot be cleaned out. Wildlife and beekeeping organisations strongly recommend either nesting blocks that can be opened and cleaned out between uses or cardboard tubes that can be cheaply replaced to be housed in a standard nesting box that you get at any garden centre. Call that neglected? My cherry tree is over 6 metres high and some of the branches are 8 to 10 inches thick.

I have a few apple trees, two are about 12 years old and they just don't make blossom, well this year one had one flower and the other had 3 flowers. The stunted tree of the same variety has loads of fruit every year, so the problem is not location or pollination etc. the two that don't produce have healthy dark green leaves, I have carefully pruned them to create space for air and light, but as you can imagine I am flummoxed. everytime I google for help all I get is the same stuff which assumes the tree is too young or not getting pollinated or frost damaged etc. I would be so grateful if you could give me some idea what might be going on and how to fix it? One tree is a winter Gem and the other a winter wonder, these are newish British varieties. I can't remember the root stock, but the trees are about 8 feet tall. Please please help me or point me in the right direction. I am going to watch as many of your other videos now but if you could reply I would be so grateful. Thank you. I am in the UK

Is it too late to prune a sour cherry tree with 0.5 to 1 inch (2-3 cm) leaves? No flowers yet. It's May in southern Alberta. Last week we had snow on the ground this week it's Summer. It happened too fast. Didn't have time to do it earlier.

I just saw these at home depot, but the stems were all dry and broken off the raspberries... Is it likely it'll rejuvenate once planted or dont bother?

I have a few questions: 1 Did the tree turn out to be on its own root? Or is it grafted? If it's grafted the suckers are the rootstock. If it's on i's own root, what's the strain? Is it a chickasaw cultivar that has been passed down locally? Plums are pretty good at having a very visible graft scare when they are grafted, even when they are super mature unlike some fruit species.

My pear trees are not blooming at the same time. Can I pollinate a tree with itself?

I have a Pink Lady tree. The last 3 or 4 years it has been developing spurs but they do not produce any flowers so far. The same goes for the tips. I left several tips on the tree the last two years and I am not even joking, only one produced flowers each year. What is going on and what should I do? If it happens again next year I am grafting it over to other varieties and trying my luck with that.

I learned more by watching this video than the other 50 videos I've found on CZcams. All other videos seem to cut branches randomly and way too quickly for me to understand what is happening. I really appreciate the pace and in-depth explanation of what a new branch looks like, where the fruits grow on that branch, and what happens after you cut that branch.

Amazing orchard. Really well kept and beautiful to look at. Do you spray copper or other fungicides for leaf curl.

By cutting back you simulate lateral branching which in turn will bear fruit (short weak laterals) How do the spurs which fruit for longer duration (few years) develop? do they develop in response to cutting back or something else?

The trouble with these blocks is you can't "clean" them. Yours look like they are being used for the first time. So, you'll get lot's of bees next year. Unfortunately the pests will start to find them as well. The bees will keep using the holes year after year. And so will the pests. Since you can't clean them, you'll end up with more and more pests. That's why I started using the stackable nesting blocks. To my surprise I already had Houdini fly larvae in a few tubes, even after the first year. I'm going to try and retire all my wood blocks but bees sure do love them. It will take some work to get them all replaced. You're in luck with that big garden as they don't fly too far either. I have to get blooming flowers in to make sure the early risers have some pollen 'till my cherry tree starts blossoming.

Good info thanks. I've got 2 Montmorencies that never really seem to produce many cherries. Both are 7 years old. Do you do all your pruning in late winter or do you remove the larger branches (to stimulate new growth) in the summer after the trees have finished producing?

I have a MontMorency sour Cherry tree.When is the best time of year to prune to increase production and what do you do to increase the size of the fruit? And how best to head back a tree that has gotten too big?

Why are you using so much plastic wrap?

I did that in fact i did it better then u did but non fruited woth 3 varieties dont know what happened but i just thought the tees were not strong enough to produce. Will c if i have better luck this Spring. My plums didnt work but i did it with my apples using crab flowers and it worked.

I watched many pruning videos and this explains it best! I finally understand how to do it. I have an older, neglected tree.

How have these done with that tight spacing? Everything I've read about them suggest huge spacing between the plants. 10ft or more. The area I have is much tighter so I'm planning to grow them much closer. I'm curious how you've done with a similar setup to what I'm planning.

Be sure to make the pruning cuts just PAST the swollen collar at the base of the branch. In some of those earlier cuts, it sort of looked like you might have been removing the whole branch including the collar, but the collar is helpful in closing up the wound and protecting the trunk from disease.

Again, not a really good explanation like tonnes of other videos. You just talk about what branches aren't good and start randomly cutting them. That is not helpful. Make a simple drawing and go part by part of the tree. Also, I don't get it about the vertical sucker branches. Some people remove them completely and you cut them in pieces, so who is right?
