Nerd News 8 - The death of physical guitar stores?
Hi, I was wondering if you were still out there. I hope you are doing well. I saw you joined the chat on the tone king, so, I thought I'd see what you were up to. I hope you like your guitar. Have a great day!
How nice of you to reach out! Yes I've been busy with other stuff the last years and haven't had much energy left for making Nerd videos. But this summer I've actually prepared a new room just for the purpose of doing just that. My goal is to only do livestreams, since I HATE editing and I LOVE interaction from the viewers. We'll see what happens.. Have yourself a wonderful weekend!

Can I use the pedal as a distortion by connecting it to the front of an amplifier? What would be the configuration of the pedal?
What an ordeal listening and watching your crap descriptions and demonstration. Holy fuk.... dude buy a tuba.and then you don't play it.. what a turd.
Wow the generic sound really does sound comparable. I recently traded a lower budget bc rich to a buddy for a few bucks and a brand new epiphone special 2. I know i am losing out in the deal but the epi is actually a little better feel that the bcrich assassin cheaper model. I will always miss that guitar but i did want an lp type gimuit also.. f i know im gonna keep my eye out for another bc rich in the future though. I always loved em.
I had one sort of like this one, not sure what model it was, It didn’t have the tremolo though. It’s in a couple of my videos I posted lately of my old band. I’d like to know what model it is? I gave 40 bucks for it in 93, Played great especially for 40 bucks 😂
I'm sure there are Hagström resouces on the internet somewhere. Post a picture and ask people what it is :)
sound samazing i have one too and it screams
I should do a longer video about it. People often use the most horrible settings and make it sound terrible.
I’ve ended up stacking a MXR Super Distortion pedal with a Marshall Guvnor pedal and it’s a killer sound. I get a very good John Sykes/ old school metal sound
@@Stewart.fryers That sounds MASSIVE!
Would u pick this guitar or a basic squier ?
I would get a Squier, but that comes down to personal preference as well. I have played Strats since I started with electric guitar, so it's a sound and body style that I've grown used to. The Lp-100 is a great guitar though!
I just bought a 2013 version of this guitar used for $150 and this video was helpful for me to start forming some opinions. I'm having it tuned up so haven't played it yet. I appreciate everyone's comments as well. It looks like a great guitar to learn on and upgrade over time. As a huge Angus Young fan growing up, I look forward to many years of shredding on this in tribute to my boyhood hero. "There was fifteen million fingers Learnin' how to play And you could hear the fingers pickin' And this is what they had to say Let there be light, sound, drums, guitar Oh, let there be rock!"
In essence I felt like it was a great guitar. I used it at several gigs. The tuners were the weakest point, bur once those where upgraded it was excellent. A set of lower output pickups will drastically change the sound of it to and make it more Angus-like. For those about to rock!
@@SwedishGuitarNerd Good to know! Thanks for the tips
I look at this 25 years later and i realise why i loved this pedal. heck it may have shaped my way of playing the guitar by hitting the strings hard. Thanks for the awsome pice of gear. Thanks Andrew!
Yes he's a genius!
Trying to be emo professor Snape
Trying and succeeding! :) Maybe I should get that Snape hair again?..
I have one, one of the problems is that the reverb tank gets a feedback loop going on its own because the tank isn’t properly isolated. Note the difference when you go through the separate speaker. 8 inch speakers aren’t known for their bass response anyway. But as a quiet practice amp it works fine. Even my jazzbox sounds okay through it at low volumes.
Yours has a reverb tank?! Mine sure didn't. But it sounded amazing through the large cab!
The tank is mounted to the bottom of the amp chassis, maybe about 10 inches long. But the rubber isolation mounts are pretty ineffective especially when you get to the lower resonant frequencies of the cabinet itself. I thought about moving the tank to the bottom floor of the cabinet on top of a decent piece of foam but haven’t done it yet. I picked up a Music Man Twin 65. 212 a couple weeks ago in mint condition so I’ve been a bit distracted.
@@chrismartin8539 Those Music Mans are sleeper amps. Here in Sweden you can buy them crazy cheap. Designed by Leo Fender and probably kills Fender amps from the same era.
Bought one of these from a guy here in Finland for 50e. I had a bunch of spare electronics, pickups and tuners lying around from previous projects so I put in some tonerider pure vintage pups (60e), brass compensated saddles, full size pots, copper shielding and locking tuners. Sounds like a million bucks. The neck profile is the only ‘negative’ for me. That’s not to say it isn’t totally playable- I just like my necks a little slimmer. This one felt more like a 50s vintera profile. But it’s something I still enjoy playing, certainly won’t be re-carving it.
Hello ! So what do you think about it ? I bought the same second hand for 170 euros and it is surprisingly good for the price. It beats my SSH Fender Modern Player with distorsion. Clean sound is not as deep / rich as the Fender and the back of the neck could be more "varnished" but once again, we're talking about a 280 euros guitar ! I would recommend it for a beginner rather than some Squiers or other cheaper brands.
I have yet to play it properly, but to me it's seems unbelievable at the price (got mine new for like 200 euros). The frets edges are rather sharp but everything else is so much better than I expected. Fit and finish is flawless. I even like the pickups a lot.
I still have mine I bought in the 90’s …. And used it with a Laney GH-100L. Now I have to figure out how to use it. With Line6 amp simulator and Roland GP-8 and GP-16
What a combination of gear! You'll have fun finding new perfect tones 😀
Which one would you recommend more?
I'd get the Ultra Metal. I've used it as my main guitar sound on several tours. That's how good I think it is.
I love this version of the Bandit so much! And i love the tones you're getting with it! Great demo!
How kind! My Scorpion speaker broke and now my Bandit has a vintage McKenzie (UK made) speaker. My number 1 amp!
i have the kustom 16 arrow 30watt model and its slightly different than this model and it sounds amazing.
Yes! If only the speaker/enclosure was different it would be a m a z i n g!
1:10 100w 2:11 15w Good comparison!
I have a Swede and a Super Swede, both made in China, so I can confirm that the Super Swede does have the longer scale length.
Which of them do you prefer? Does the scale length affect the sound?
I couldn't find this model anymore 😢
No there has been several Zoom pedals that's replaced this. You can probably find one used for no money at all. They're solid and well-constructed so I wouldn't resist getting one.
how do you get your hair looking like that???
dude your hair looks AWESOME!!!
My face just melted while listening to this video.
This Guitar, WOW! The best MIDI controller I’ve ever used! It puts my Roland GR-55 and Godin Guitar ( with Factory Roland Midi System ) rig to shame! When recording, I use it to play my quality Virtual Instrument plugins. Also, great for triggering MIDI sound modules. It tracks great with little to no false notes being triggered. Note: I have been playing MIDI guitars for 31 years. None of them can touch this for recording! Hooch
That's interesting! I had no gear to try the midi-compability with so that's really useful information. THANK YOU!
14' of talking...
With the designer of the product 😀
I owned one of these, but sold it. I repent everyday.
I sold mine too. Haven't missed it a single day 🙂
Any path
Switch the boost on its give more gain..
It gives more nasty high mids rather. One could call that a boost I suppose?
I'm sorry, great guitar's, not so great playing. Hope you get better. I suck too. Lol
I hate when I listen to somebody for half an hour (felt like that) soeakung about specs and feel, and then discover that he's obviously a beginner. No offense here, I've been a beginner too but I didn't make videos...
These are better guitars than the gibsons they competed with on release, and yes im referring to the sbg200, they are that good. Im glad theyre still easy on the wallet when one goes up for sale.
Yes even though they are rising in prices it's peanuts compared to a Gibson. And I agree - SO much better!
And yes, they are prone to breakage! Trust me!
I also have one of these. Mine is an HSH in Electric Blue. Killer machine! Pickups are hot enough as is. These were made from 1989-1993. Short run. This was Fenders answer to all the "fast Strats" that were popular at that time. There were five interactions of this guitar, versions I-V. Mine is a version IV. Made in Korea with various body woods from Plywood to Mahogany. Less expensive Floyd Rose system as opposed to the higher end Strats.
Might the pickups differ between the different models? Mine had enough output, but lacked character and definition. Upgraded it with an EMG 81 and now it sings!
@@SwedishGuitarNerd could be. My pickups measure 14 k on the neck and 13.8 k on the bridge. Single coil measures 5.7 in position 3. Nice clean single coil sound. Humbuckers are hot enough to break up my amp. No issues with the pickups.
@@SwedishGuitarNerd the pickups are on par with say a Super Distortion or a JB. Sweet sounding pickups, great harmonics, pinch harmonics pop out, roll off the volume and it cleans up nicely. I was gonna swap out the pickups with a Super Distortion and an X2N, but the stock pickups sound fine.
@@rokkimason4199 Then there are without a doubt different pickups in the different versions :) You got lucky!
Its called a german carve. Why did u buy the guitar if u hate everything about it?
Indeed it is. I don't hate everything about it. Several times during the video I say that the guitar has impressive specs for instance.
You generally don't know you hate it unless you buy it >->
I had the P90 version. It was an okay guitar, but the neck was pretty rough. Sharp fret ends, lots of high spots. For a moment I thought about correcting it myself, but then I eventually decided to send the guitar back after a few days.
We'll se how mine turns out. I haven't really played it yet.
👍🏻👍🏻
The front pickup, slanted with bass side rearward and treble side forward, makes far more sense that the "Fender slant". Treble side forward puts the pickup where the signal is stronger (larger string movement, closer to the mid-point) and where the tone is "rounder", therefore not so shrill. Likewise, the bass side is not so high-output and gets more tonal "edge". Cool guitar - amazing feature set - excellent choice!
Yes I agree. If this left-handed test becomes a permanent thing I might just get a Strat and turn it upside down :)
Nice !🎉
Thanks!
I just bought this one second hand. Do you have any recommendations for amps that go well with this guitar? (If there is such a thing) I intend to just play by myself and ideally not too large of an amplifier. God fortsättning!
I would get a Roland Micro Cube. It small but compared to every other tiny amp that I've ever tried it sounds really really good. It will bring out the best of the G260, which to this day is my favourite electric guitar EVER :)
I got one as my first real guitar in 1990. Played it till the bridge pissed off and I screwed it down to the body. I have kept it for sentimental reasons in my guitar graveyard. Just recently decided to rebuild it, put proper locking saddles instead of the cheap string through. Refret with jumbos and put a SH-8 invader, and it plays like a motherfucker. As you pointed out very Ibanez inspired. I think the string through Floyd let the ball ends flop around if you dive bombed, and it would go out of tune Al the time. Simple fix as a seasoned guitar builder now 😁
What a lovely story! I love mine and don't play it as much as it deserves. It has one of the best body designs I've ever experienced and the neck is just fantastic. I put an EMG 81 and it really made the HM-2 come alive. My experience with the trem is that it's far better than current non-original Floyd Roses. Especially the base plate is made from a very hard steel and has no problems with binding with the trem posts. Have yourself a Happy New Year! (And send me a message on Instagram about the guitars you make!)
welcome back!
Wow thanks!
Great to see you again🎉
Thanks a lot!
Very good to see you back in action, my friend!
You too! Any new gadgets or toys lately?
Headphones and in-ear monitors have been my interest of late. Headphones from Ollo Audio in Slovenia and IEMs from KZ in China.@@SwedishGuitarNerd
@@orenfisher8948 Wow! I have never heard of either of those brands!
Use a foot switch yes it has place for foot switch I got this amp and when you use foot switch 2 channels
First generation only made in 1980 looks just like but has square magnet and gun smoke letter style, written bandit, 50 watts.. The third generation 65 scorpion 12 speaker, 1983-86
That's the 2 generation has 50 watts and a scorpion 12 speaker, 1981-83
Thanks a lot for the added information!! Nowadays mine has a late 70s/early 80s McKenzie speaker (made in the UK) since the Scorpion broke.
i just got a super swede. where can i find out info on the serial number?
I would send Hagstrom Guitars an email. They seem to have used several systems for their serial numbers over the years. If it's a newer one you can tell what year it was made from the first two numbers.
thanks man i appreciate your response ill have to email them then. thanks again.@@SwedishGuitarNerd
Do the ltd floyd Roses stay in tune well? Or should i replace it?
That's for you to decide. This one (Floyd Rose Special) was horrible. They market these as being made with the same base plate as the original, but that is just not true. It's much softer and therefore can't move as easily.
