Speaking as an autistic person- which Alhaitham is... rather clearly coded as, let's be honest- We're usually a little emotionally unaware. Most of us try not to be, especially with the people we care about- but it's like speaking a second language. It doesn't come naturally to us so it takes effort. Especially on Alhaitham's end- he was raised by his grandma, who didn't instill the same social anxiety a lot of autistic people recieve from their parent's pressure to behave properly. She allowed him to behave exactly as he felt was natural, which meant he never felt that need to mask his symptoms (although according to Kaveh's voice lines about him, and some of his behavior in game, he is capable of doing it and is a great actor- he just chooses not to). He does not value masking, or putting the effort in for other people when the feelings are insincere. This makes his moments of kindness all the more genuine, because he wouldn't express a sentiment unless he was being honest.
